Word of Faith teaching is decidedly unbiblical. It is not a denomination and does not have a formal organization or hierarchy. Instead, it is a movement that is heavily influenced by a number of high-profile pastors and teachers such as Kenneth Hagin, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Paul and Jan Crouch, and Fred Price.
The Word of Faith movement grew out of the Pentecostal movement in the late 20th century. Its founder was E. W. Kenyon, who studied the metaphysical New Thought teachings of Phineas Quimby. Mind science (where "name it and claim it" originated) was combined with Pentecostalism, resulting in a peculiar mix of orthodox Christianity and mysticism. Kenneth Hagin, in turn, studied under E. W. Kenyon and made the Word of Faith movement what it is today. Although individual teachings range from completely heretical to completely ridiculous, what follows is the basic theology most Word of Faith teachers align themselves with.
At the heart of the Word of Faith movement is the belief in the "force of faith." It is believed words can be used to manipulate the faith-force, and thus actually create what they believe Scripture promises (health and wealth). Laws supposedly governing the faith-force are said to operate independently of God's sovereign will and that God Himself is subject to these laws. This is nothing short of idolatry, turning our faith—and by extension ourselves—into god.

The topic of healing came up and I read that verse during this discussion. Felt it was pertinent to the conversation.
I used to listen to some of the teachings back in the 80's and early 90's and I found that there was very little teaching on the grace of God. This may have changed, because a lot of believers are waking up to the revelation of the love, grace and life of God that is in us now in Christ and living completely dependent on what Christ has done by grace through faith.
Back then there was a lot of condemnation and works being preached. Confessing the word became a "work". Believing God became a "work".
This may have changed as you can't through everyone into the same pool nor judge people from something 20-30 years ago that they believed. We are all growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord.
Us Christians are the only group that actually kill our wounded or tear apart the ones in the body of Christ with us. It's a complete shame and we "hide" the bitterness, hatred and malice we have under the disguise of "defending the faith" when in reality we could be just "defending our church teachings and traditions".

the key is whenever GOD chooses....not us
that's one way to end up with all kinds of false things going on in a church or meeting and people just accept it and think it's God because they are in church

healing is one of if not THE major conflict people have with WOF
heal on demand or that is my confession so I am healed does not work...never has

I was talking to a female I work with and informed her Christians attack each other more than let's say an atheist vs Christian. She is gay and an Atheist.

Yes, and I suspect we'd be surprised how many of those on the TBN list of WOF people were inspired by Peale's work. He taught how to "visualize" what you want in hypnotic state and it will manifest...sound biblical? Not so much.

I attended one of those conferences where you are supposed to reach your inner hurt self and visualize Jesus coming in and healing you and blah blah blah...only it was not advertised as such
this was a number of years ago...went with some friends
I listened but when the speaker said it was time to practice what we had heard, I just prayed...it was weird and people were acting abnormal...sorry...it was not the Holy Spirit'
just a very New Age type of teaching
people are gullible because they think it's all good if done by 'Christians' or taught by same
look around...Christianity is a mess...it ain't working...none of it

I said on demand...I have seen folks healed myself...REAL healings...not the Benny Hinn kind
maybe I should tell you at this point that I believe in the gifts but with discernment and oversight...not the free for alls so many think are a move of God

do you expose and cast out demons?
do you speak in tongues and interpret?

all of these are good...but no thank you to most of what goes on

I agree with you. All you have to do is read threads here. People attack the other person and accuse and slander them of all kinds of things and yet to some this is acceptable behavior and in reality this is a work of the flesh and it is no different as far as being destructive as practicing homosexuality.
Us religious people love to "categorize" sins and to greatly condemn the sins of others that "we don't do". It's hypocrisy at it's finest. Phariseeism.

well I guess some honest to goodness persecution should get everyone's head put on straight, right?
I spoke with various non-believers for eight years on two different sites before joining this site. The attacks on me started immediately simply because I identify as Christian. It was quite an education... I used to tell my daughter some of the things they said to me; she was horrified and wondered how I could stand it. I think they hated on me all the more and intensified their attacks just because I would not back down from them, especially on the first site, which was a secular site with very little moderation. I have never had a Christian talk to me like atheists have. Also, it seemed to me that the most bitter atheists were ones that had at one time believed themselves to be born again Christians, and served in multiple ministries over many years before walking away from their faith. They would say, they had been deceived, without being able to admit that maybe they had somehow possibly been deceived into giving up their faith. Sad, for sure. Anyways, I do know what you mean, I just largely disagree, even while acknowledging that there are quite a few skirmishes between Christians, and harsh words spoken. Whatever you do, don't mention the Catholics
