Not good, I would only have two attempts if I failed, I would get someone else. Sometimes you do smack peoples arms to bring up the blood vessel. If a person is frail, vessels are shut down, cold or dehydrated it can be difficult to get blood. The worst is femoral bloods. Also the blood tests that hurt and I mean hurt are arterial blood gases. I try not to hurt patients and have had a number say they haven't felt anything. I have also learnt it is more about feeling for a good blood vessel, you need bounce, superficial really visible veins often collapse also patients don't like being told you've got really good veins.

You can bet my arm was pretty dang blue after that. Then they got a different nurse and they had to sit on me because I was going nuts in panic. that one got it to work tho on the other arm at the first try. Since that they have one try or I leave. Not gonna let em do that again.
I usually dont have issues with my veins but when I panic they collapse. Next time I will order you in to do it lol..only if you use a butterfly tho
