Hi KJV, I've actually been taught both ways, one from a Baptist Church another from a Conservative Charismatic Church. I didn't really know what I believed until I read Ezekiel. Have you read Ezekiel?
I think it's best when we study the bible to start with easy to understand verses from the New Testament first before we move on to the Old Testament. The New Testament brings clarity to some of the more obscure passages in the Old Testament. Basically what I'm saying is that we have to understand the verse below before we start making assumptions about Ezekiel because Ezekiel will never contradict Paul.
Romans 9:6-7 KJV
Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
[7] Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
