Brain-Spirit coordination? ;)

it is frightening the number of people who think they are 'controlled' by the Holy Spirit or think they need to empty their minds and whatever enters, is from God

these are eastern practices and not the Holy Spirit

and I sound like such a dullard for even mentioning it.......

our brains are supposed to be in gear..God uses them!

In gear and yet yielded... that's a tricky combination for many!

Sadly the title Prophet is so vastly misused and misunderstood these days. I was on youtube once and happened to come across a video of a prophetess I tend to stay far away from such people since they damaged me so inside from my early years of faith but for whatever reason i decided to click it.

I knew how fake she was from watching the video but what really got me was the comment section she was called out by people and her response was to retaliate to rebuke everyone and to speak against them using scriptures. I messaged her and told her that if in fact she is a prophet then she should know a prophets job is not simply to give prophetic prophecies but rather the role of a prophet is to make that spark and ignite the flame in peoples hearts to be used by God and allow his words to flow through them to edify build encourage and to help heal his people not to make a prophecy and then rebuke anyone who challenges you.

Her reply was "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." many so called prophets see themselves as more special or higher than everyone else and they view correction as attacking but in reality prophets if anything should lower themselves and humbly place themselves as simply servants no more special or better than anyone else and they should not rebuke correction but instead gladly receive it their words should bring life should inspire should build and encourage should strengthen the hearts and souls of others not attack rebuke and bring others down.
our words and actions are seen as a blade, for every blade that takes a life there is also a blade that saves one for every blade that cuts and makes others bleed there is also a blade that heals and mends.

I don't judge a person as a prophet by any prophecy I judge them but what their blade does

27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts.
And I will show you a still more excellent way.1 Corinthians 12: Spiritual Gifts

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you," nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you.1 Corinthians 12

the gist, we are saved by a saviour, so having faith in him (firstly). because he know the members, that are in it. etc

In the Old Testament, miracles identified that a prophet was from God. In the New Testament there is no longer need for that kind of prophet. I suppose if someone says what the New Testament says, you can say they prophesied, but like the Bible says, prophesies have ceased, tongues have been stilled, now that what was once incomplete is now complete.

We now have the complete word of God, so we no longer need a prophet to tell us what He says, we need only open our bibles and read. If someone comes to you saying that God gave them new information or instruction that is not found in the New Testament, they are either deceiving themselves or you.

Usually when a prophet comes to preach at my church I cringe because it's such a fine line. I don't always believe everything they say (or wait until it actually happens to believe it). I don't believe in frauds like Benny Hinn whatsoever but people seem to buy into him. I remember a guy who prophesied that the U.S. Election was going to be cancelled and that Obama will continue to be president, that obviously did not happen. My parents and family member believed him but I being the smart one never believed him from the start and laughed. My question is how do we know whether a prophet is really legit and his or her words are from God? I'm never convinced by any I see but I know they exist out there. How can I distinguish who's fake or not?

according to the testimony of Jesus. If a prophet is disagreeing with Jesus, He is not a prophet. even when a prophet is speaking something foreward, whatever He says will not part from the spirit in the words of Jesus. the truth is Jesus, nothing true will part from His gospel. the o.t. says that "if a prophet prophecies something and it doesnt happen, He isnt a prophet of God. Now in Christ, we have the testimony of the One prophet and High priest and nothing true wil part from the truth.

for instance Jesus says " no one Knows the day of the end" so if someones telling us " the world will end sept 23 2018...its not true. or if someone says " God said now, we dont need to accept Jesus Christ for salvation" its not true because Jesus said we do have to have His provision. He said " turn the other Cheek" so if someones saying " God said now we can go back to violence" not true ect....

people easily follow false doctrines and prophets because we arent sometimes holding to the truth of Jesus Word. Just my 2 cents though, hope you get a good answer God bless

My concern is why the need for a prophet today? Whats the point? The only prophet we ought to be listening to is Jesus Christ who spoke about whats to come. The Word of God is enough to answer any concerning questions one might have. I will say it again and again you have no need for a prophet because you have the Word of God to direct you in life. You also have the spirit of God dwelling inside you and the church of Jesus Christ to encourage and help you. So come again why the need for this so called 'prophet'?

You can feel it in your spirit, It should be provable by scripture. The presence of a prophet is all different too.. Also.. not every prophesy is of God.. without discernment, your lost on that one

Why did you say 'not every prophesy is of God." If the whole Bible is the 'Word of God' ???????????????????

I think a lot of people confuse words of knowledge which anyone can have,
with Prophets.

There is a sense in which we are all can receive words of knowledge and might
therefore be considered Prophets. But a word of knowledge here or that does not
qualify someone to take on the title of prophet.

I think most people tend to understand that the term prophet nowadays,
is just a general term for someone who hears from God. But shouldn't we all be
like this hearing from God getting words of knowledge in season.

Why does it take a person to specifically have the title of prophet who goes around
churches stating I'm a prophet God speaks to me? Doesn't God speak to anyone else?

Maybe where a nation or a church is blowing cold and people are not listening to
God, then God will raise up people who listen to His voice to speak and witnes for
Him. But are these people actually Prophets in the biblical sense, or are they just
people who listen out for Gods voice spreading the word.

These are all questions I would ask if a "prophet" was invited to my church to "prophesy".
Are we so bad at listening to Jesus that we still need other people to listen for us?

Hebrews 1:1-3 NKJV
[1] God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers
by the prophets, [2] has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has
appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; [3] who being
the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all
things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down
at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

I'm a bit confused as we have never had a "prophet" preach in my church.

We have had several guest speakers over the years but no one is ever invited
or introduced to preach for their "prophetic abilities". Guest speakers are usually invited
because they are recognised as gifted speakers, teachers, preachers etc.
On the odd occasions after the main Sunday service or a mid week meeting, we may
invite someone who is gifted to teach specifically on their gifting or give a word of
testimony for people who are interested.

Sometimes people within my own church have had prophetic words to say, but I don't
think any of them would call themselves prophets just because of the occasional
inspired word here and there.

Personally I would be a little worrried about a church which went out of its way
to invite outside Prophets to preach to the whole congregation. Why would
an outsider have special words of knowledge for the congregation, but not anyone
within the congregation?

Just my thoughts anyway for what it's worth.
There are two uses of the word "prophet" in the US:
1. A fortune teller; i.e. "The end of the world is September 24, 2019." "Magog is the U.S.S.R., and they will attack the US on January 15th, 1997." (The future usually involves some dire situation in the US -- because apparently the US is God's crowning glory lol -- and it's always ramblings about End Time's junk.)
2. Word of Knowledge/encouragement for that church.

They are a variety of traveling carnivals, (supposedly of God's specially anointed in many different churches -- although more often seen in independent little churches -- for "healers" and "prophets"), which pretty much guarantees when someone of that kind visits a church, (and gets paid for "the service"), it's the world-is-ending variety of "prophet."

there. How can I distinguish who's fake or not?[/QUOTE] I do not think we still have "Prophets per se" anymore, they were needed to say thus saith the Lord, now we have His Holy Word, from Genesis to Revelation. We still have a "Word of Knowledge" a prophetic uttering is still prophecy, its just done by the Holy Spirit through many people whom God might choose to use via the Holy Spirit who all Christians should have. To be a true Prophet of God most had to rid themselves of all worldly circumstances and many went into the desert, they had to separate themselves from worldly things. I think today we just overcome the world via the Holy Spirit. There are healing's and Miracles also, which is why I do not get you mentioning Brother Benny, he is a preacher who has a healing ministry, what does that have to do with prophecy ?

The 5 gifts of grace that are said to be necessary for the building up of the body. Anyone who teaches others they aren't for now is totally out of line with God's way.

Those who disregard an office of grace is deformed part of the body. You can't mature it's impossible.. Yes everyone can have the Holy Spirit but not everyone can operate and be functional without the 5.. He gave gifts,.

Whats behind the message of 'we all have the Holy Spirit and Gods word just rely on those' ? Individualism... We are a body put in the places He chose.. That's why we need them.. If you think you and God will sort it out together, you're sadly mistaken..
