AND why did Paul write THIS?

1 Corinthians 9:27 (NIV)
[SUP]27 [/SUP] No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

No, the human spirit was cleansed and saved in an instant, but the Sanctification of this body with a sin nature in it, is a life-long struggle, and will not be completed until Christ gives us our glorified body at the Resurrection.
If it is a struggle, then it is not of faith, nor have you entered into God's rest.

For God said in Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Heb 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Heb 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest,...

Heb 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
Rom 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

As the spirit is, so is the man, for as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

1Jn 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

As stated above, we are made clean by and through the word of God,... if it remains in us.

Luk 11:39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

It is spiritually clean, for we are even as He is that is in us.

1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1Jn 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Even as our righteousness is not our own, neither is our cleanliness. We are clean by and because of the seed/offspring/word/spirit of the Spirit of God abiding in our righteous/clean/new/fresh spirit. That is why we are clean. Not the outside or physical part of the cup, but the inside or the inward part of the cup, that is the spiritual part.
So we are not clean through our obedience to do good deeds or by obeying the law, but by and through keeping that which is clean, which is the word of God, in our hearts. For as the tree is so is the man. If the seed be holy, so will the roots be holy, and if the root be holy, so will the tree, and if the tree be holy, so will it's fruit. The kind of seed that one agrees with, believes, and receives personally, is the seed that will be planted in their heart, and that seed will cause the person to be as it is. If it is of God, then it will cause one to be like God. That is why Jesus said, either make the tree good and his fruit will be good or else make the tree corrupt and his fruit will be corrupt.

SANCTIFICATION
Process of being made holy resulting in a changed lifestyle for the believer. The English word “sanctification” comes from the Latin sanctificatio, meaning the act or process of making holy, consecrated.

Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary.

Sanctification

Involves more than a mere moral reformation of character, brought about by the power of the truth: it is the work of the Holy Spirit bringing the whole nature more and more under the influences of the new gracious principles implanted in the soul in regeneration. In other words, sanctification is the carrying on to perfection the work begun in regeneration, and it extends to the whole man (Rom 6:13; 2Co 4:6; Col 3:10; 1Jn 4:7; 1Co 6:19). It is the special office of the Holy Spirit in the plan of redemption to carry on this work (1Co 6:11; 2Th 2:13). Faith is instrumental in securing sanctification, inasmuch as it (1) secures union to Christ (Gal 2:20), and (2) brings the believer into living contact with the truth, whereby he is led to yield obedience "to the commands, trembling at the threatenings, and embracing the promises of God for this life and that which is to come."

Perfect sanctification is not attainable in this life (1Ki 8:46; Prov 20:9; Eccl 7:20; Jas 3:2; 1Jn 1:8). See Paul's account of himself in Rom 7:14-25; Php 3:12-14; 1Ti 1:15; also the confessions of David (Ps 19:12, 13; Ps 51), of Moses (Ps 90:8), of Job (Job 42:5, 6), and of Daniel (Dan 9:3-20). "The more holy a man is, the more humble, self-renouncing, self-abhorring, and the more sensitive to every sin he becomes, and the more closely he clings to Christ. The moral imperfections which cling to him he feels to be sins, which he laments and strives to overcome. Believers find that their life is a constant warfare, and they need to take the kingdom of heaven by storm, and watch while they pray. They are always subject to the constant chastisement of their Father's loving hand, which can only be designed to correct their imperfections and to confirm their graces. And it has been notoriously the fact that the best Christians have been those who have been the least prone to claim the attainment of perfection for themselves.", Hodge's Outlines.

The REST we enter is from the erroneous doctrine where we think that we have to Struggle to KEEP the Commandments in order to be Saved. Salvation and Sanctification are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. We struggle to get better at obeying HIM, because HE SAVED US the moment we Believed, and NOW we LOVE HIM, therefore our OBEDIENCE is the best way to LOVE HIM BACK.

John 14:15 (HCSB)

Sounds to me like all you did is quit trying to obey HIM.

All that comes from keeping the word of God in your heart. The word you keep is what does the sanctification, as it is holy.

Good thing there is more than one truth we can receive then. There is one truth concerning salvation, and there is another about dealing with the flesh. If one continues in the word of God and comes to know the truth, it will be the truth that made them free. Haven't you read Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Part of this can be about salvation but the rest has to do with those who are bound by bad habits and such. Those who have a lack of self control, Jesus said, they are free, not going to be some day, but they are now.
When one comes to know and receive that particular truth personally, it, the truth, will make them free.

Yes, I've been saying all along that it's about having the correct heart attitude
of repenting of your sins as you are being sanctified unto holiness.

Romans 6
CHOOSE to be a slave of obedience unto righteousness unto holiness unto eternal life.

Butski, I get mucho opposition from da troops (many of whom are not born again).
Because they are enemies of Christ (even if they don't realize it).

to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised,

to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound
This is all about those who have been deceived by Satan and held captive by him.
This is the condition of the whole human race.
This condition can only be overcome through spiritual deliverance.
Either by God alone or by men (deliverance workers).

This basically is NOT taught in western churches ...
that's one reason why they're so messed up, i.e. powerless!

“You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize
that you are (spiritually) wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. (Rev 3:17)

You have an ERRONEOUS understanding of what it means to enter HIS REST.
That's possible, but unlikely. In the same way that you are not able to save yourself, neither are you able to stop sinning. If you try to stop, you will find that you are not able to, but will succumb to its pressures eventually. That is what Paul wrote about in the latter part of Romans 7. The reason why Paul did what He didn't want to do was because he was the one trying to stop, using his own strengths. But in the last verse in chapter 7 and at the beginning of 8, Paul reveals why he no longer struggles. It's because Jesus had delivered him from the body of death.

1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:

1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Paul kept under his body by faith.

1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world [or the flesh]: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
From G1722 and G1412; to empower: - enable, (increase in) strength (-en), be (make) strong.

Jesus strengthens, enables, and empowers us by His Spirit.
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Again, if you are struggling in life, then it is you doing the work, not God. If you are struggling, then you are not in the faith, but in the flesh, neither are you in or being lead by the Spirit, but you are in and being lead or rather dictated or controled by the flesh. One stops struggling in life by receiving what God did for them by faith and speaking it forth with your mouth.

Jas 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

How is this perfect man able to bridle his whole body, by his tongue.

Heb 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Heb 4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
Heb 4:5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
Heb 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Heb 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Heb 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

If you enter into God's rest, they you have ceased from your own struggles/works.

Ceased from working for one's SALVATION, YES! That happened the moment we Genuinely Believed.

But because we LOVE HIM, we WILL manifest out LOVE by our striving to Walk as HE walked, in Obedience; and that is a lifelong learning process and application process. The motive for doing that is NOT as a work, but as a desire of our hearts, striving to win the prize a laurel wreath crown, like the Olympic style Games of Paul's day.

[SUP]5 [/SUP] But whoever keeps His word, truly in him the love of God is perfected. This is how we know we are in Him:

Matthew 7:20-23 (HCSB)
[SUP]20 [/SUP] So you’ll recognize them by their fruit.
[SUP]21 [/SUP] “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but ⌊only⌋ the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.
[SUP]22 [/SUP] On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’
[SUP]23 [/SUP] Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!

The faithful believer has entered His rest.
But, do you understand what "faithful" means?
One thing it means is to be a slave of obedience unto righteousness unto holiness.
If one is, he/she will receive the crown of eternal life.
If one is not, he/she will be disqualified.

The motive for doing that is NOT as a work, but as a desire of our hearts, striving to win the prize a laurel wreath crown, like the Olympic style Games of Paul's day.

1 Corinthians 9:25-27 (NIV)
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.
[SUP]27 [/SUP]No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

You simply have STOPPED following Christ in your Christian WALK, because you fail to grasp the real meaning of entering His Rest.
If you are the one doing the beating of your body, then you have not ceased from your own works.
The bible says the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty THROUGH GOD.
Trying to beat your body into submission or to prevent yourself from doing wrong or bad things, is simply you doing the work, NOT God. The one who rests in God, is the one who does not have to struggle to do the work himself, it is done for him, BY God.
You are apparently are not able to see that at this time, hence the reason for your struggles.

Once again Paul and I totally disagree how you interpret that. Paul said "I BEAT MY BODY", and our obedience is a continuous lifestyle of the born again Believer. Perhaps that is why you fail to understand that our obedience is how we show LOVE for our LORD GOD, which has nothing to do with how we are SAVED or how and why we work.

Like I said, all you did is quit trying to show LOVE for HIM.

Matthew 7:21 (NIV)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

John 14:15 (HCSB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] “If you love Me, you will keep My commands.

John 14:23-24 (HCSB)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
[SUP]24 [/SUP] The one who doesn’t love Me will not keep My words. The word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me.

1 John 5:3 (ESV)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

Oh, just so you know, I can recognize false teaching even when you do not put it in YELLING bold type.

The faithful believer has entered His rest.
But, do you understand what "faithful" means?
One thing it means is to be a slave of obedience unto righteousness unto holiness.
If one is, he/she will receive the crown of eternal life.
If one is not, he/she will be disqualified.
Crowns are NOT SALVATION, that happened the moment we believed. It is your definition of what HE meant by REST that is in error.

"The next part is the killer. Those who loose faith, who abandon God and do evil, the Lord
will forget there righteous ways as if they never happened and judge them for their sin."

Peter, our righteous ways aren't why we are saved though. We enter into Christ's righteousness. We become joined with His Spirit and He gives us His Spirit as a "guarantee".
Scriptures teach, those who do righteousness are righteous. Those who do unrighteousness are unrighteous. What you believe does not negate or make void other inspired by God verses.

A good tree is only a good tree if it has no bad fruits.

Jesus Truly being in a person helps that person to not do anything that is unrighteous.

A sad conclusion.

Everything I hold to is from scripture. It is reading and weighing the word of God.

If you conclude I am wrong, which is always possible, you have to answer the scripture
upon which a particular position is based.

For instance saying you have a guarantee, is true, but guarantees come with conditions.
The most common guarantee condition is fair use. If you beat up the thing you have got,
abuse it and ask it to do things it should not do, the giver of the guarantee often will refuse
to honour it.

Now this is a simple principle we follow, and God gives time and again guarantees which are
conditional. Now an unconditional guarantee leaves the giver open to abuse. If the whole
point of a gift is to obtain an specific outcome or situation, and this fails to come about,
why should the giver honour anything, because the whole point has been undermined.

It has never been us who define the conditions, or the walk, or the purpose, yet it appears
by the very way people are talking, they want to define faith only their way and deliver
their outcomes, and call it all acceptable, when scripture denies this very thing.
Kind of like people who think once there name is written in the Book of Life, are guaranteed to remain there forever and ever, Which is actually contrary to Scriptures which teach a person who WAS in the Book of Life can be blotted out of it.

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
Rom 6:22

By obedience to God, we are led to righteousness, which lead to holiness which results
in eternal life.

Paul cements obedience as the cornerstone to walking in Grace.
You are not far from the Kingdom of God. The Holy Ghost has been teaching you things, i can tell.
