It's big to have a Christmas tree this year, since last year hubby was sedated (as in looked-like-a-coma) the entire season, and he's home again. BUT he still has trouble getting up to the stairs. He can do it, it's just a major workout when he does. Plus he's tired all the time (CFS, plus he's so anemic he's getting infusions of iron for five weeks, along with his iron supplement), so he sleeps on the sofa for naps or when he tries to go to bed, but can't sleep. (Also insomnia.)
So what? Well, we live in a very small house, and the only place to put a 4 foot tree is on the radiator behind his sofa. I've asked him if it's okay to use a smaller tree (decoration) or bring up the rosemary (live, smells Christmasy, but it's a scraggly bush, not a tree), or put the tree somewhere else, but he wanted the tree there.
Have you seen the bases for artificial trees? Not only chincy, but usually wider than a foot, which is the width of the radiator cover. The tree falls over at least once a year. Very nice of God to have it go down when hubby wasn't on the sofa, but putting it up is a major chore, since I've got back issues that climbing up and down on a sofa for every ornament doesn't help. (Also makes me nervous since I made half the ornaments out of stained glass long ago. Falling + glass = not a good idea.) I tried putting it up, but it kept falling down again, even before I had to redecorate it. (Yes, duct taped it AND put a thick blanket around the base to keep it in place. It's a goner.)
I went to find a new tree. You'd think stores would realize that if they're in a neighborhood full of small houses, maybe it's a good idea to have trees match the houses, but nope! No tree!
Stupid thing. I really realize on the scale of 1 - 10 in catastrophes this doesn't even deserve a decimal point, but with his doctor appointments, mine, and all the other things we have to get done in the next few weeks, no tree really upsets me and I ran out of time to do it anyway.
I've prayed. I've listened to Christmas music. I seem to be stuck. Right now I feel like putting away the nativity scene (the only thing out, because the tree comes next) and calling it quits for Christmas.
Any help?
