I'm pretty sure that the parents don't have to be educated about Santa. The parents are not lying to their children because there is no malicious intent, the just want their kids to enjoy Christmas and all that it entails. Why take the joy out of everything?
What kind of pastor goes around lying to children like that!!Everyone knows Santa is real! Right?
The pastor is a lifeless miserable Scrooge.
I don't know how anyone can say the parents aren't lying..... with that many in line, somebody was.

We used to have the kids uncle come visit, dressed up like Santa. They figured it out themselves eventually, but before that they were totally sure Santa was real

I may have overlooked some posts in this thread, but I didn't see anyone poking fun at fathers defending their children. I did see a few people who responded to the hostile desires/urges some people directly and indirectly made. Also, what is there to "defend" their children from exactly? The lies and distractions people and commercialism make that take away from the birth of our Savior?
Being a bit hyperbolic for a second, if an atheist came up to a Christian and said, "God isn't real, Jesus is a plagiarized pagan god like Horus." ... and the Christian man decapitated the atheist with his samurai sword, he doesn't get the luxury of saying "Well, I was defending God." That isn't exactly how one should "defend" God... that is more of an immature and juvenile mindset that shows a refusal and/or an inability to cope with anyone that says something contrary to what they believe in.

If a parent reads a story to their young children are they lying? The kids might think that the story is actually real.
I'm fairly certain the bible doesn't have an amendment for bearing false witness... "Thou shalt not bear false witness... well, if you don't have any malicious intent then it's okay."
The only way to make this NOT bearing false witness is to tell the children, "Hey, Santa isn't real but we like to pretend. Sort of like how we watch movies. They take us to places we can only go through imagination." At that point, you can pretend and enjoy the commercial aspects of Christmas without bearing false witness.
Try explaining this to a 2 year old. Better yet, give the kid a rain check for the gifts to use when they are old enough to understand what Christmas is all about.
It depends on the story... If they read them the bible, it's not lying. Though, many people will say the bible is a fictional book and that it is a lie. Can't please everyone I suppose.
But even if the bible was a fictional book (which it's not), it wouldn't make the parent a liar since the parent genuinely believes it's true.

ANY parent worth their salt should be telling their children that the stories are fiction, using whatever baby language necessary.
This just shows you lack understanding about the mind of children. You should go take a bunch of parenting classes before you decide too. Our job is to foster an environment that allows creativity in children. Not stifle their imagination with adult religious bias and nonsense. Santa is a fun game for kids. No different than pretending to be iron man.
Besides the fact that I am personal friends with a person who used to make a living being santa. Now he just does it in his free time for kids in the nicu...or kids with cancer or kids in orphanages. I'm actually pretty astounded at the ignorance of people in this forum. Bunch of religious jerks many here are....just like the "pastor" in the video who needs a fat lip once or twice.

You're making it sound like lying to your children that Santa is real is the only way a parent can encourage their child to have an imagination. It's just not the truth.
Did your parenting classes teach you to lie to your kids to expand their imagination? If so, Scientology might be their best bet to help kids build an imagination.
Are you lying to your kid when they are pretending to be iron man and you tell them that they are? The wonder of Christmas for kids is an awesome beatuful thing. If you want to take it away from yours and put the weight of the world on their shoulders go right ahead...but you're a fool....and a terrible parent.
I understand people have difficulty coping with diversity. I really do... This past presidential election has taught me a lot about how people resort to violence when another group of people believes differently. I've seen the way Clinton supporters have used their hostile intimidation to silence the Trump people to the point where Trump supporters wouldn't openly admit to people they were voting for Trump. I think that is why so many people are surprised Trump won... they didn't take into account the voters who were for Trump but didn't want to be harassed for voting for him...
However, people who believe Jesus is their personal Savior and that the commercial Santa takes away from Christ believe differently than you. It's not that they are "ignorant", it's that they believe differently than you on this topic. It just reminds me of Clinton supporters who think Trump supporters are ignorant white people... No, it's just they believe differently than they do. Go ahead, name call, make people's lips fat... it doesn't make you right and them wrong... if anything it should show how juvenile and mentally weak a person is to differences of opinion.
Of course not... They are playing (pretending). I'm all for pretending... I think it's fun. Some people might have an issue with pretending that Santa is real because it takes away from Christ... I can understand it, but I disagree. I think you can focus on Jesus Christs' birth as well as pretend that Santa is real.
I think we disagree about the "taking it away" part. I will just speak for myself, but I had so much fun pretending Santa was real, and that he was coming down my chimney as a kid... In reality, I knew there was no such thing. My parents told me the truth but that it's fun to pretend. They reinforced that Christmas is really about Jesus Christ. That didn't stop me from watching George C Scott's A Christmas Carol... or a Christmas Story... or baking cookies and leaving milk out for Santa.
No. Some people are just smarter and have more exierience than others. The proof is in the pudding....and when my child is a well adjusted unscarred adult it'll be enough for me and I won't rub it in anyone's faces like yours. Go ahead...have some of your own and let's see how they turn out pal.
Hey, I pray your child is well adjusted... If he/she is, it won't be because you tricked him/her into believe Santa was real... it'll be for all the other good things you did/taught him/her. No parent is perfect, but even imperfect parents can have pretty amazing kids.
