So I never do the lottery, I think it is throwing good money away.
The odds of winning are so remote. Plus hankering after millions is
not the best way of thinking for a Christian.

However the strangest thing has happened.
Last week I was just thinking with my mind meandering around.

Then i got thinking it would be nice if I was in a position to stop work
and be with my aunt every day and that it would be even nicer if
I had the money to buy a bungalow and fit all mod cons for her.
Hoist, walk in bath, separate bedroom easy to access rooms etc.

The thought popped into my head that this will never happen as I don't play
the lottery so forget it! But then I found myself thinking...but what if a
nice person bought me a lottery ticket and it was the winning numbers.
Then I just forgot about it and my mind jumped to something else.

Anyway at work yesterday, both my team leader and...my senior team leader
had bought everyone a lottery ticket. Something they have never ever done before!

So now I find myself in possession of not one, but two lottery tickets which others have
bought for me Christmas gifts.

So what would you do if this was you and the numbers came up?

If you are concerned, you COULD give the tickets away to someone, right now, before you know if they are winners or losers.

(I can PM you my mailing address.)

Give the presenters a small percentage of the winnings (5 to 10% depending on the prize), then do as much good as possible with the rest. Important to note that for myself, much prayer would be involved, as having had a lot of money at one time is something I have never experienced.

On I think I have an idea of what to do with some of it.
My church could do with a million to finish off an annex on site (the rest of the
church £20 million was built free of charge God provided). But my church would
never accept money from a lottery win.

Interesting question if you come into a few million do you think it would change you.

I'm with you -- dream about it but won't play. That's why I keep saying if God wants me to win the lottery, he can blow the winning ticket in my hand.

BUT, you just taught me there are other choices. Someone could hand me the winning ticket. Oh, and there is the other choice of it not being the winning ticket. Any which way, I enjoy the outcome. One of John and my favorite conversations is what we would do if we won half a billion. We both have different ideas of what kind of charity we would start, (after fixing the house, of course.) It's kind of like being handed that kind of money without having to deal with the downside of the reality. (Accountants, taxes, who has to be told, who will find out anyway, etc.)

If you get the winning ticket, realize it is from God. It is the lottery ticket blowing into your hand. So, it's a win/win if you hold off seeing if it is THE ticket. lol

What would I do -- today? (This changes through the years.) After fixing the house, (and hiring someone to clean it once a week), I would do what I hope to do when things settle down anyway. I'd like to go back to the nursing home that hubby was in and join one of those monthly meetings the residents have to find out what they'd like. I'm still upset that the only entertainment they have on a regular base is bingo once a week. It still bothers me that dentures are still rare, cheap, and a long tedious process IF the vet qualifies while in the nursing home. And that they cannot get enough fluids if they need Thick-It. That's what bothers me. But what bothers them? I'd like to help those stuck in a VA nursing home long-term.

Interesting. Do they assume every dollar they now accept in the plate was acquired by motives and means they would approve of?

When the need to move and build a new church came up. The head pastor made a
point of saying the Lord would provide. At the time trying to raise £20 million seemed a
huge leap of faith, but I remember him saying God would not let His work stumble
for lack of finances. Well guess what it was provided, albeit in a round about mixed up
"problems with the economy" way. The result is that the developers built us a church free of charge.

Very long story.....:)

I remember at the time though before this all came about, the head pastor said he would
never accept lottery money. He feels it is relying on gambling and that (not all) but a lot of
people get caught up in gambling addictions or many many people who can ill afford it, give
their last £1 in the hope they might win the lottery. He said he would never fund a church or
project off the back of such an obvious source of money in which people get caught up in it all
for the unrealistic hope of winning big etc.

Interesting, when the Bible says the wealth of the unrighteous will flow into the hands of the godly.

Sorry. Just sounds a little self-aggrandizing to me.

Hmmm.... I get that they don't want people to put their trust in the lottery so to say,
but it doesn't sound very likely that someone would think anything along the lines of "If I give the last twenty pounds in my bank account even though all I have at home is half a bread that must last two weeks .... but I am sure God will let me win the lottery" :p

It's perfectly fine to give money to church if you just don't say where it comes from...
like underground turtle races, Malaysian muay thai death matches, or money laundering for some huge international criminal ring (like the democratic party).

As long as your church doesn't know, it should be ok.

Shouldn't the all-powerful "discernment" that so many claim to be gifted with enable the overseers to say: "This bill is good... this other one is a little questionable (but, we'll take it)... and that one over there is seriously Blood-Money?" At least on bills of a $20 denomination or larger? LOL
