They were wise for seeking Jesus... Are we wise? Are we hungry?-----are we "traveling" to seek out that closer walk with Him? Grace and Peace----just a little challenge to go with Christmas...

It is unwise of you to start so many threads in such a short time.
This has been brought to your attention before.

I notice that when I get distracted by the things of this life I don't feel that hunger and un quenchable thirst for him inside me and for those who have known such a hunger and thirst it's quite obvious when it's not there. It's in that moment that I always say to God make the fire burn once more

Sorry, I'll try to limit my needling...
You are trying to needle us? Well, I am just letting you know that I have seen grumblings against you for a couple of days at least. Someone even started a thread asking the people who run the site about limiting the amount of threads anyone can make, perhaps especially newcomers. 72 threads in 40 days does seem excessive. But then I am not really one to start threads.

my guess is the wise men where levite decendents ,
from the lost tribes of Israel, that where scattered abroad.

I don't tend to make many threads anymore I used to make a lot more than i do now but i tend to rather respond to other threads. The main issue 88 is that while I am not against you making threads like you do as I don't personally find it annoying your threads are like wise statements that normally don't have more than five responses.

I can see wisdom and maturity in you and while your wise statements can enlightening they leave little room for discussion and the main point of a thread is to be discussed

We do not have to seek him anymore. He came to US (the meaning of this season), and all we have to do is receive.

why didn't they know to go to Bethlehem? Herod got this information from priests and scribes, and sent the travelers there - so these magi didn't have the scriptures? but they followed a star.

I get what your saying but at the same time much seeking is needed. We receive him yes but to know him is a constant searching, like David before me I am a seeker of his heart my deepest desire and passion to know him in great depth to take on and understand his nature his heart his way of seeing way of thinking and this has been a constant everyday journey seeking him out however I can wherever I can whenever I can even in my storms or in my failings my heart seeks him.

He is truly the greatest mystery and his heart is something one must seek exhaustively to know and understand and only a hungry heart will go that far in order to truly know him in this way which is why Jesus said to seek first the kingdom of God and why he said if you hunger for righteousness you will be filled

Blain, He is there - right there. You only have to be still and sit awhile in his presence and listen for the thoughts he gives you. It isn't seeking - it is spending time with the Word and his presence - meditating on the word. It is more like we give him "time". But he is right here.

And He always gives you what you need for that day.

I didn't mean he isn't there I apologize for not being clear.
Let me put it this way when you want to know the truth of a matter you do research you seek out any and all information of that matter such people are known as seekers as they seek out the truth of things they hunger for knowledge.
God is there yes but to truly know him and to truly understand his heart sometimes we must seek it out. I am all for being still and letting him reveal himself to me but my hunger for him makes it where I seek to know him in all things even as I go on my walks I am searching for him seeking to know just a bit more of him seeking to grow a bit closer to him and had I not had this kind of seeking there are many things I might not have known before.

spending time with him and the word resting in his presence meditating in his word is in fact seeking because we are not doing it just to be with him are we? We doing it also to know more of him to grow closer to him to allow the spirit to flow and fill us up. The time we spend with him is in fact also the time we seek his face

why didn't they know to go to Bethlehem?
The star lead them to Jerusalem, maybe that is where the star stopped.
but The star did later showed them the rest of the way.

9When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw
in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
-

Herod first found out about the birth, it was from the wise men, not his scribes.
God must of had a plain to fulfill the old prophets saying.

15And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Herod got this information from priests and scribes,
yes they had the scriptures, a Jewish community subordent to the roman empire.
we know what Jesus said about the priests and scribes , they where not called wise.
If they where they would have seen the star themselves and told herod about it first.
all they could do was quote scripture after fact- Matthew 2:6 (KJV) Micah 5:2 (KJV)

5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda:
for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

and sent the travelers there
- so these magi didn't have the scriptures?
but they followed a star.

They followed a star that God lead them, the star would have been overhead.
in [verse 12] says they lived in another country, they would not know the area.
does the bible say anyone else even seen the star?

16Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men,..from two years
old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

how old was Jesus when they arrived,
how far away did they have to travel, did it take 2 years?

-

2Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

How did the wise men know Micah 5:2 ?, they [must have had] scriptures.
how did they know it was this star that stood for the king of the Jews?
they came to worship the new king, and bring presents. an Israel tradation.

could "the term magi" just mean they knew Astronomy ?
if they where magicians[bad] would the star been revieled to them?

Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena.
It applies mathematics, physics, and chemistry, in an effort to explain the
origin of those objects and phenomena and their evolution

Abraham was A Scientist, Astronomer, Mathematician—and Father of Nations

We do not know much about these wise men.
We do not even know how many there was.
the bible says they where wise men from the east.

at the time of Jesus, the lost ten tribes where scattered abroud[not local residents].
the decendents of both the northern and sothern tribes had Levites in them.

so [my guess] would be they where decendent to the Levites, from scattered tribes.

When I'm hungry I eat food, when I seek wisdom I remain open so I may be teachable.

This is a daily challenge, not something I just think about once a year.

I'll try to limit my threads to one or two a day...hopefully this would not be considered flooding the page...Grace and Peace

I'm hoping I'll get more discussion on my threads (won't flood---one or two a day?)...Grace and Peace

If they knew Micah 5:2 why didn't they know to go to Bethlehem?
They didn't need to know that verse to know the King was born.
they where strangers, they did not know the direction to that smaller town.
they where following the star where it went, the star must have had to stop
over Jerusalem, or they would have keeped following it.

so explain then how did they know the king of Jews was born without scripture?

they came into town proclaiming this, no one had told them in the city yet.
Herod and company did not even know that Jesus was born yet.
