I go to Ecuador to the Equator twice a year... I will save this post.
Are you going to the monument or the true equator? I was watching Expedition Unknown and he went and the monument is off by a bit. There's a place where a woman had found the true equator using gps and you can do fun little experiments there. Like balancing an egg straight up on a nail head and watching the rotation of water draining in the northern hemisphere vs the southern. It seems like fun.

Miri, honey - you are missing the point of the thread -- which is - proving the Earth to be spherical or flat - only using experiments that "every-day" people could conduct on their own - without simply trusting what NASA and other government-based organizations are putting forth.

All:

Do you think we could all possibly stay on topic?

Do you have any ideas of how the 'shape' of the Earth can actually be proven to an individual by an individual?

:)

this meme is not accurate. You only need a camera with a wicked good lense to see the planets with great quality.
Oh that's why I can't see anything the way NASA shows it I'm not looking through a wicked lens. Wow, that makes perfect sense actually.... Thanks for that.

I am not mocking anything, I took a quote from you. Where you are from is not a very good attempt to try and excuse your choice of words...

"Well, let me just say this --- when *I* am able to look through *my* camera ( having a "good enough" lens ) and see more detail than just a 'fuzzy dot', *then* I will reconsider the thing..." ;)

I know what you meant to say; however, you should really think more carefully about your choice of words and the potential impact of them on what you are trying to convey...

( And, I am pretty sure that this is [ also ] at least part of what HEIsRiSen was trying to get across to you. )

"Just sayin'..."

Lol..not just NASA..you really don't understand why?
No, I do not...

I have not seen any evidence, as of yet, that anyone but NASA / governments / etc. ( i.e. - an individual ) has come up with such pictures.

Perhaps y'all could point me to a website that has pictures of planets which are unmistakably amateur?

( Of course, how would I really know...??? )

I think it's pear shaped.
That would explain why it wobbles on its axis and why
"everyone's bum looks big in this." :D

(( quoting from http://www.philosophybasics.com/branch_solipsism.html ))

Solipsism
is the position in Metaphysics and Epistemology that the mind is the only thing that can be known to exist and that knowledge of anything outside the mind is unjustified. It is a skeptical hypothesis, and leads to the belief that the whole of reality and the external world and other people are merely representations of the individual self, having no independent existence of their own, and might in fact not even exist. It is not, however, the same as Skepticism (the epistemological position that one should refrain from even making truth claims).

Solipsism is therefore a pure variety of Idealism (more specifically Subjective Idealism or Subjectivism), and is opposed to concepts such as Materialism, Physicalism and Objectivism which hold that the only thing that can be truly proven to exist is matter.

The central assertion of Solipsism rests on the lack of a solid proof of the existence of the external world, and Strong Solipsism (as opposed to Weak Solipsism) asserts that no such proof can be made.

It is often considered a bankrupt philosophy, or at best bizarre and unlikely. Critics have argued that the very idea of communicating philosophical ideas would be entirely pointless to a true solipsist as, according to them, there is no other mind with whom they would communicate their beliefs. It also goes against the commonly observed tendency for sane adult humans in the western world to interpret the world as external and existing independently of themselves.
