I think you missed my point:

If I, as a new member, enter the forums and see

- These are the rules: blabla

- This is our statement of faith: "Jesus died for our sins but we do not believe in _____ (ie "hyper grace" , aliens whatever else we end up discussing over and over )

... then I know that discussing _____ in this forum is pointless... , and maaaybe, just maaaybe ONE new member will refrain from starting a debate on it :p
Yes,that is exactly right! Some things should just be off limits out the gate.

oh.... I see. Well I think having rules like that would help however I cannot know if they will make that much of a difference many new members don't even bother reading the rules you read when you first sign up however I still think it would be of benefit to have such rules

An auto message straight out the gate would help.. like when you're under review and a message pops up telling you that you don't have access to certain things yet.. something similar would help.. the entrance sets the tone
hehe, yea, people never read rules and terms of service :p
.. just like greetings at stores and what not

Each must police themselves. God ministers in the heart.

Believers testify of what Christ has done for them. Believers are not called to testify of what others must do to suit them.

For the cause of Christ

The bdf has always been a place having a well known reputation for being a war zone however In the past year or two it has escalated beyond belief we have brother condemning brother and sister mocking sister we have attacks left and right and we all are guilty in some manner including me. How can we claim to stand for the truth when the truth is not shown in us by are constant squabbling? Yes there will always be times when we get into heated debates and names are called and scripture is thrown as a weapon such is human nature and discussion of scripture but in all honesty this is getting way to out of hand.

Even oncefallen saw and described the depth of the issue and many of us complain about the issue but what do we do about? It begins and ends with us and all it takes is for all of us to at least try to be more civil to respond more in humbleness and love and when you are attacked or called a name try to turn the other cheek, we claim to be Christians and to be love to stand for the truth and to show the heart of who God is maybe it's time we prove this.

Most of us are full grown adults and so we need to wise up and stop acting like children
And this fighting and squabbling is another reason added to the list of why people do not accept Christianity, for a lot of people say they cannot get along with each other, and fight over the Bible, and we are supposed to believe they are the truth.

2Co 6:3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed.

Gal 5:15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

BDF won't change unless acted upon by mods. The BDF is full of ego drive , self appointed teachers eager to assault people's faith, dignity, character and salvation for disagreeing with their ultra-enlightened, singular truth. Ego that big will not stop itself because it never sees it's own wrongs, only everyone else's. Makes me think of a bunch of Sauls.

We have quite a few people that think that BDF is a personal ministry. If anyone disagrees they get nasty very quickly. You see a lot of threads that pose a question "what do you think...?" and when you answer they slam the hammer down. They didn't want your opinion, they wanted to give their opinion which is,of course,is the right opinion. To me that is being false. Why not just say "here's my opinion,if you disagree Im going to go nuclear? "

Yes,that is exactly right! Some things should just be off limits out the gate.

CC has set up what they consider to be the "essentials" of the Christian faith.

Quote:

I guess I assumed everyone knew what the essentials are...

Here are examples of the essentials...
(Thise are here to give a general idea of what is essential to the faith, it's not a comprehensive doctrinal statement from this site.)

1. The deity of Jesus.
2. The inspiration and authority of the Bible as found in the 66 books of the Bible.
3. Faith in the crucixition, death and resurrection of Jesus is the only way to reconcile you to relationship with God.
4. Jesus is coming back again!
5. Believers should seek to live for God and not the world.

I may have missed some, but that should give you an idea.

Timing of end times events isn't an essential. Calvinism vs non calvinism isn't an essential. Which version of the Bible to read isn't generally an essential, unless it's a version made by a sect that teaches against the esssentials of the faith.

I have long maintained the same

captive audience and all that....wannabe preachers, teachers and self made prophets

I agree with ugly's statement concerning mods...this is the least moderated forum I have ever been on

I'm not complaining about it...but interactive mods most definitely have an effect...as in 'one more time and you are on vacation for a month'...or, you've been warned 3 x's now...see you in a year

another very effective thing I saw used, was a person who continues to careen off course and just otherwise makes everyone else unable to discuss things, is locked out of a thread...they smarten up pretty quick LOL!

There are some threads started which pique my interest. I read them in the morning before I start my day and think about the topic and any insight I might add or questions I may have concerning the matter. Then I log in at break or lunch time only to see pages and pages which I need to read before replying lest I repeat something someone else has already posted. By the time I catch up, my break time is over and/or the thread has reduced to denigration of believer by believer.

Yesterday I wanted to post about 1 Peter 5:10 to Blain in the man of sin / the man of righteousness thread. By the time I had composed my post, the thread had been closed.

Philippians 2 tells us we are to be humble and esteem others better than ourselves.

Philippians 2:

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

In 2 Cor 5, we are reminded we are ambassadors for Christ. As a representative of Christ, are we to hold another member of Christ's body in contempt?

In 1 Cor 12, we are told every member of Christ's body is needful and necessary and the eye cannot say to the hand "I have no need of you". We all need each other and the Lord Jesus Christ needs us to be a fully functioning, healthy, robust, body looking only to/at Him in love. Instead we look at each other in contempt. As James 3:9 states Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Before submitting a post, we should use the preview function to read over what is going to be submitted and think about the tone of the response. Would we want to be addressed as we are addressing others? Doesn't take but a moment to edit a word here or there and remove any inflammatory remark.

I think the last thing I would want to do is tell a brother or sister that they are not a member of Christ's body. IMO, that is the height of chutzpah and there will come a day when we will stand before our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and give an account for every idle word.

LOL....good one...

"what do you mean? - if you don't agree with me and the way I and our group believes - you are heretic and a false teacher."

Martin Luther was one of those "heretics" when he said " the just shall live by faith". What do you mean - the established church of the day said? We have believed otherwise for over 1,100 years before you came.

They went "nuclear" on Luther.

IMO, there are some really off the wall things presented in here that I would hope would be addressed but they are not other than once in a while a person gets banned for their continued 'presentations'

like in the case of the Sabbath keepers we had on board for awhile...
