Here's a suggestion or two for whatever they're worth. And this isn't for trolls or those who come searching and seeking .

It's for those of us who say we've been born again and claim that we've chosen to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus. :)

First off what I see is that we're not seeing ourselves as servants. Jesus said that if we want to be great in God's kingdom, we must be the servant of all - all! And after teaching them this, He gives them a video to watch. Jesus washes their dirty, stinky feet.

It bothered Peter so much that the God of the universe would stoop down and wash their feet. Peter knew he was filthy dirty with the stain of sin and asked Jesus to wash all of him, not just his feet. I love Peter!

And then Jesus told them that they he would have no part in His ministry if he didn't allow Jesus to wash His feet.

The lesson for the 12 was to stay humble. They would be chosen as apostles for the church, so they'd be the top dog so to speak. But Jesus said that a servant isn't above his master.

We have Jesus lowering Himself to such a menial task and He's Lord of Lords and King of Kings - He left an example for his disciples to follow. They are not to think too highly of themselves in their position of apostle. They are to see themselves as foot washers. As servants. And not just servants of the rich or their friends, but they are servants of all, even the leper.

So I really do believe that this might be something we all can work on - to be servants of all. Not to think of ourselves as higher than anyone. Not even if we're right and someone else is wrong.

If the other is wrong in their teaching, we need to humble ourselves as their servant to either reword what we've already said, or to leave the truth with them and allow the Holy Spirit to convict them - or even to confirm what they've said because we might be the one in the wrong. But if we're right, we can let it reaffirm the truth in our heart, but we can still love the other person, hoping he/she might come to the knowledge of the truth.

A servant stays humble. The truth in love tastes much sweeter. :) Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

And then when we mess up and respond in hate or when we belittle others, call names, etc. lets be quick to ask for forgiveness. That kind of heart needs to always be a part of our character. Romans 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
One thing that really bothers me are things like the Calvin love-in thread or whatever it's called. It might not be offensive to others and maybe it's just me. But I think it causes division, even if there was no intent to do so. And in one of the photo threads there were photos that depicted denominations either in a bad light or a good light as if one is better than the other.

It can all be in fun at first, but it's not really and feelings get hurt and before you know it, it's the same as the Calvinism love-in where you're causing separation rather than unity.

It makes me think of Paul's exhortation to those who claimed to be of Paul, of Apollos or Cephas, etc. He asked, "Is Christ divided?" And the answer is of course not.

For those who said we need better moderation, Amen! Because - If we need church discipline, we also need discipline here. I always thought that the moderators had a lot of patience with what's been going on and couldn't understand why there wasn't someone stopping what was going on. And now I understand that there aren't enough moderators.

I don't want anyone to think I'm being harsh or condemning because I'm not. I'm just trying to think of ways we might be able to make things more pleasant around here where we'll want to join in fellowship and respond more in the threads.

Many of us do already avoid so many of the threads. Discussion is great, so is disagreement. We can learn from one another, but with all the negativism going on, it turns my stomach sour literally. It causes me to want to leave and not come back.

I'm fairly new here and I'm so happy to be here. There are a lot of great and wonderful people here, but there's also some pretty snarky people here as well. We all have room for improvement. None of us are perfect.

So I say let's press on and get to know the Lord better and become more like Him in all we do. Let's do all to the glory of God. And let's give the benefit of the doubt and not be quick to think the worse. Let's take time to gather our thoughts before we type and pray.

Let's ask God to help us if we feel that rising tension build and race throughout your body. That right there can be a clue for us that we are about to react emotionally. :) We might need to wait until we can answer in love, in humbleness of spirit and in grace with lots of mercy.

We don't want to be judged harshly ourselves and we have the exhortation that with the same measure we judge others, God will judge us in that same measure. We need to look at God's looking glass so that we can see if we have a tooth pick or a log in our eye. They both need to be removed before we can respond correctly and in love.

I don't think the answer is to close the Bible thread. It's time for us to grow up in Him to maturity. In Christ all things are possible, even those things that seem impossible. The more one begins to react it love, it encourages others to do so as well. Like one raindrop and then another and before you know it we'll have a nice showering of love in the rooms here.

Love never fails...............

Everything that put's "christian" on it's name to promote christianity belongs to God. Whatever is done for God must be done "decently & in order". Failure to deal with this issue will only provoke God to act, for judgment begins at the household of God.

New American Standard Bible
1Peter 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

I would suggest "doing something" before He does.
I would submit myself to God's judgement before ever submitting to man's.

I absolutely love that scripture in 1 Peter 4:17-18. When you look at that scripture in context - it starts in verse 12 where Peter is talking to Christians about the fiery ordeals they are going through because they are Christians and being reviled ( that fits in with some behaviors we see in the BDF from time to time )

The scripture in 1 Peter 4:17-18 about judgment in the house of God must come first is a beautiful promise of the sealing of God's people off before judgment comes.

1 Peter 4:17-18 (KJV)

[SUP]17[/SUP] For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

[SUP]18 [/SUP] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Peter was the apostle to the Hebrews and Peter being a good Jewish man would have heard this spoken of in the OT..." judgment must begin at the house of God".

It is a hebraism ( expression ) from Ezekiel 9:4-6 in which they had set aside the jewish elders and marked them before judgment came....these ones were saved from the judgment that was coming.

In other words we get protected/marked by the Spirit of God before judgment comes ..but judgment starts at the house of God first by us being "marked"...that's the sign that judgment is coming to the ungodly as 1 Peter 4:17-18 says.

It's awesome!! it's a beautiful picture of us being sealed by the Holy Spirit.

We have a good, good Father! and a mighty salvation in Jesus our Lord!

1 Peter 4:17-18 makes me jump for joy and kneel before my Father in thanksgiving for the love and grace He has shown us in our Lord Jesus Christ.

So because he has more posts than you do, makes him better than you? Or "more busy"? Post counts have NOTHING to do with anything on this thread..
What it really means is that I retired last year...lol

I will say one thing about the BDF - being reviled and insulted by the outside world that believe differently then we do will be tame compared to what goes on in here sometimes by those that believe something differently then you do.....it's a good training ground.

Oh well....we will all laugh about it when we are with the Lord. We may as well start laughing now...:)

When I say we I also include me and I have said before I am not innocent. For instance in the thread started by isit called how to catch a false grace teacher or at least I think that is what it was called lol I did not like how I replied to him throughout that thread so in the thread from last night I changed my conduct in how I responded to him.

I am just as guilty as anyone else here and I intend to change that
Hmm, didn't enter that post either. That wasn't the one I was talking about. (More than one got locked? I need more work on my nosy skills.)

I totally agree with most of your post here. I also wish it were that easy.

But what I left here I cannot agree with. I wish we could be self-regulating. But it wont happen.

Just like in school, when someone gets a little cocky, a little rambunctious, others will join him until the teacher catches the ringleader & makes an example of him. Then everything calms down.

I will be the first to say I'm one of those that got carried away with the rambunctious ones. I let my guard down, & I compromised my standards. It's easy to be rambunctious when surrounded by rambunctious characters.

Another reason I did was because I was beginning to quit caring. Things are getting worse all the time, & I finally began to give up, because "why bother, when there's no discipline? There's been several with multiple warnings (I have one), not just in the BDF either. But it seems only trolls are banned.

When I stayed in the chat rooms. we HAD to have someone banned every now & then..... really. Some nut would come in & would get banned. But..... when that happened, those on the borderline found their place & behaved.

We live by example, & when we don't, we have to be shown an example.

Oncefallen was definitely going in the right direction when he stated a handful of people is gonna have to be banned if it doesn't change.

The church has a corporate responsibility as well as a personal responsibility. But we need to be sorely reminded that not everybody here is a christian.

Ugly & Oncefallen is right..... judgment HAS to come, not may, not might have to.
Please take this from someone who absolutely knows I am not usually a shiny example.

You're 53 years old. Aren't you old enough to know what the example looks like, so you don't need more examples? We cannot change others. We can't even change ourselves, but dagnabit! Isn't changing ourselves part of the deal we got when Jesus laid down his life for us? Isn't it time to shine our lights? HIS light?

Dark we have down pat. The Light is the place to head toward and we know by his example. No one in this joint needs to provide us with yet more examples.

You know what - I'm sick to death of seeing good people being set upon on the BDF. It would seem to me that no one feels the need to study, converse or debate anymore, it's all about "you're wrong and I'm right". If someone posts something they don't agree with it then resorts to their CHRISTIAN BROTHER or SISTER doing their utmost to "prove" them wrong or make them look foolish. I seriously think the BDF should be shut down.
Really?

If you don't like BDF you don't have to come to this forum. (And I am not saying leave CC. I'm saying if we don't like a place avoid it. And BDF is just one section of a bigger place, so avoid the section.)

But to cut a broad swath like that is unfair. BDF if my place to go when I need to learn something big. Or even if I need to learn something small. The tables are rickety. Some of the chairs are missing a leg. There's a gap in some of the windows which brings about a draft that chills me. BUT I'm still willing to come here because some of the patrons have helped me. Don't tell me shut it down because it doesn't fit your need.

It's nice to know you are innocent in the whole matter..... Perhaps you qualify to be one of the new mods?

I have 6,718 posts in the past seven years..... you have over 14,000 in the last 13 months.....

Somebody's been a busy boy. Not a rant, just a fact of observation, that's all. :)
When I was a kid, we had the backseat in the car. Two brothers got the windows. I got the hump. One of them would poke me and then yell, "Lynn, stop poking me!"

To both of you -- stop poking each other! If God doesn't do it for you, how about "be the better man"?

I've been on this site nearly 6 years. It has been like this the entire time. Many people make suggestions on how to deal with it. But admins give the same answer over and over, 'we're leaving it like this'. Really to take any serious action to change this would cause a sizeable drop in the sites popularity and traffic. Or, if the BDF was shut down, many would just spread to the rest of the site and take their vitriol their. The past year some of them have already been branching out and the overall vibe of the site has tanked as a result. To keep the site active, and minimize ruining the rest of the site, the BDF is a necessary evil.
