Out of any subject you could find in the Bible, marriage and divorce has got to be the most spoken about and referenced. A lot of turmoil in the old testament about divorce. Jesus made it real simple to understand when the Pharisees tested him about divorce.
Sometimes people feel shame and want some relief. Sometimes people are ignorant. Divorce sucks and is probably one of the causes of the fall of western society.
People don't need to justify what they do with Christians, they need to justify it with Christ.

I can imagine these people are really hurting. At least they are seeking Godly counsel.

A better question would be - "Pray for me." and a better response would be "I am so sorry you are struggling in your marriage." I don't think people need approval for divorce, rather empathy, compassion and concern. Divorce has gotten so common place, and so has abuse, and all manner of sin. It is not an easy answer or solution. Marriage counseling is always a good option...and prayer from a community of believers - the body of Christ.
Sometimes one has to bring the marriage not only to god, but also to other people.
People who have a christian opinion.
It is not easy to deal with problems in a relationship and it helps to unload the happening
to other christian people, who may have been in a similar place.
Especially to strangers, who will have a new perspective. And because we are strangers,
one can ask but does not have to act on the advice.
And there are many instances of talk about struggling mariages, it is not always "I want divorce", often
the question asked is "Look at my situation. I do not want to separate, but what can I do ? can
you give me new things to try."
And it helps to answer other peoples needs and to experience, that one is not alone.
And to pray together, for betterment in the situation.

Why do they rant at great lengths and then never return?
Why do people (including me) answer and keep answering even years later when it's clear the person never cared for any answer?
I can understand someone thinking about divorce, a heavy situation, whose spouse cheated or is suffering for other reasons, coming onto a forum like this asking for advice or help.
Someone might ask for advice on divorce to make themselves feel justified because other people say to do it. Or they might be sincere and really have legitimate questions about what they should do.
What I don't get, though, are posters automatically assuming that the poster's depiction of the situation is correct, assuming the other spouse they haven't met had an affair, is abusive, etc., and directly recommending divorce through a board like this.
Someone might ask for advice on divorce to make themselves feel justified because other people say to do it. Or they might be sincere and really have legitimate questions about what they should do.

Hey now. If your spouse hits you in the back with a towel bar or destroys your laptop out of anger, I am always going to go with GET OUT!
If the story isn't true, the poster is playing games and isn't really asking anything. It's a game. But if that really happens, then... GET OUT!
I read this other post before reading the towel bar one. I've seen posts where certain posters are quick to label the spouse who isn't here to give their side of the story a verbal abuser and say to get out.
People often turn to God when they're desperate.. Illness, tornado, bad marriage, etc. Thank God bad things happen
I joined this site with just a prayer request a couple of months after my wife left. Now it's all I got to keep me company. Now I have friends around the world. Thank God for tragedy.
