Serving God

What does it mean to serve?
How do we serve God?

Having these two questions on my mind last night.
This was a private message I received.* I won't say who it was from but I'd like to think it was an answer to my questions.*

"Jesus give answer for you KJVMatthew25;34-40"


Matthew 25:34-40 (KJV)

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.


Genesis 25:23
"And the older shall serve the younger.”

Genesis 29:18
Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.”

“Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.

Revelation 22:3
And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.
 
Serving God is doing His will---it pleases God to give us the kingdom (His power and authority)---Luke 12:32 (as we mature)---faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6)---Jesus always did those things that pleased the Father---to be God's servant (greek---doulos)---means to be a Love slave to Christ----there are 5 stages of Christian development----believer disciple servant friend son/daughter...

Matthew 20:25) But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

To add to what my Beloved Brethren have said. To serve GOD is also to Love one another as JESUS has loved us. For written, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34)."
In short to serve GOD is to listen to JESUS CHRIST. For it is written, "... This is my beloved Son,[SUP][a][/SUP] with whom I am well pleased; listen to him (Matthew 17:5)."

I prefer to be called a Beliiever. Just a personal preference.*

Names can't be translated, they're transliterated.

Avoiding Transliteration in Translating the Bible

There are many words found in most Bible translations that aren’t translations at all.* They are transliterations.* Let’s consider some key words in the New Testament. Words like “Christ,” “baptism,” “angel,” and “apostle”* are not translations* from Greek to English but transliterations, that is, replicating* the sounds made by the words.

In the same way, I prefer to use original names for God and Jesus. Yahuah/Yahusha

It's not that it's wrong. I just prefer one over the other.*

it seems like before I was a 'true convert' that I was a 'believer', but without any benefits!
I did 'believe' in my Master, but I just couldn't seem to 'follow' His rules...

If someone wanted to start serving God, where would they start? Can you give advice as far as what they could do today?
 
Start in your Church----serve as you feel the Lord wants----spend time in prayer and Bible Study (quiet time)---God will begin to inspire you to do something based on your burning love for Him rather than just duty----be a witness for the Lord----invite people to Church---tell people about your personal testimony with Christ----get with others who are on fire for God---something Awesome will happen...

It could start pretty much anywhere, you could start by just listening to someone who is down in the dumps, or doing charity work, or giving to a charity or someone who needs something... Pretty much being a blessing in someones life.. you can also pray for people/preach the word. Anytime you do any type of serving/ good works, do it in the name of Jesus.

I think service begins by obeying the Lord’s commandments. If we do that, the Lord will lead us where he wants us to go.

I see a lot of people doing “good deeds,” but at the same time endorsing permissiveness, when it comes to the Lord’s commandments. They think they are serving the Lord but they are really causing trouble.

I personally like to be called a "whosoever," but, this in no way takes the place of me being a believer in and disciple/follower of Jesus Christ, and, as such, we (His Church/Children) are identified as Christians.

Why this is important is simply because it is the CHRISTIAN FAITH. Not the BELIEVERS FAITH. And this is because Jews BELIEVE in their religion, Muslims, Buddhists, and even Pagans BELIEVE in their religion. We, of the Christian Faith, are a peculiar people, set apart from all other peoples because we are believers in and followers of Jesus Christ. Christians.

Just FYI...............I would think you might want to reconsider not listing yourself as "NOT CHRISTIAN" on your Profile Page, for it may well cause much confusion/and possible rejection in the future.

As I stated........I am a "whosoever" as recorded in John 3:16, however, this serves to QUALIFY me to be identified as a CHRISTIAN.

Christ never called himself a Christian, Christ never called his followers Christians. The apostles never called each other Christians. Christ never used an adjective to describe himself. So how are we to identify ourselves then? The disciples called each other, "brethren", "disciples", "apostles", "servants", "believers", "followers", "the faithful", "the elect", "the called", and "saints." We can also identify ourselves as "bondservants" of Christ

The word Christian is used three times in the New Testament. The first (Acts 11:26c):

It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.

It was a nickname given by the sarcastic men of Antioch.

I don't personally use it but that doesn't mean it is right or wrong and would never tell someone they are wrong for using it. ❤

Our salvation doesn't lie in whether we are labeled by a traditional title. I am in no way denying my Savior by choosing one over the other.** ☺
 
It is true about being called "Christian" was man-made for sure. It seems though that Peter adopted the term or it could mean that it is a term that "outsiders" consider as this term is used 3 times in the NT and each time it is referring to outsiders looking on at us believers.

1 Peter 4:14-16 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

[SUP]15 [/SUP] Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;

[SUP]16 [/SUP] but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.

I totally agree. I guess if Christ was his actual name, I would probably use the label Christian. Does that make sense? ❤

"Christian" correctly identifies us by who we are identified with, Christ. It is from Christ that we derive our new nature and identity as "Christ-ones". We took that label “Christian" that was first applied to believers in a derogatory way and have proudly worn it as a badge of honor ever since. Which is just what God does, He takes what is meant for evil and turns it to good.

I understand what you are saying and it is a personal preference. I know that the term "Christian" can have some bad connotations because of some that claimed they were Christians and their behavior was atrocious.

You are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He has done by grace through faith. That will work for sure...;)

I will advice him/her to start by totally trusting and depending on GOD ALMIGHTY.
