1 Corinthians 3
For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

I suppose if you don't want to hear any other explanation, you just keep on "ignoring" people...... and moving on to the next thing on your list.
Brother, I said I had to ignore you for the way you were speaking in here, not for any other reason. You don't have to attack anyone. If you have something He has shown you, share it. But if you try to share it via attacking a brother or sister, you do harm to yourself. And I won't help you to harm yourself.

That was done a long time ago in this thread. You didn't read it?

I guess we can focus on repentance, faith and baptism today and tomorrow. Then talk about resurrection Wednesday. It will give everyone who wants to a chance to weigh in.

This is not a wrong way to look at it. :)
There is another way to look at it too though, and it is not wrong either.
The verses that talk about Him trying us in a furnace, or in fire, to burn off impurities (slag) so that what remains is purified.
In this sense, we say that He baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire. Our walk and getting to know Him better, and the renewing of our minds is the burning off of our slag. :)
we could,, Maybe, But I do not see it in context of who John is talking too. He is talking to pharisees, Not believers in God (christ) So I do not see how that fits.

Also. The only unquenchable fire in scripture I know of is hell. How would the pharisees John spoke to view it. (they also did not think they were dirty, so would not see it as them beling causally cleansed from time to time)

What does the part I bolded tell us about a person who is left wiht no reward. but saw it all burned with fire? (I know it is not relate to topic, But wanted to see what you thought.

ps. Is this a fire that will never be quenched, or a fire which God calls to test our work at a time?

Well...to use your own logic, why was He saying to Pharisees that they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit? So I think the words are for me - He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. And what comes after I see as different.

Do you see what I mean?

He was focusing on the difference between his baptist in water, and the baptism of Jesus who would come after.

He told them, show me fruit of your repentance. He was not talking to them as believers, but as people who needed saved, They better worry about Jesus baptism. But his baptism (in water) will just get you wet. Jesus is permanent.

I like this verse because it explains the the if next to Jesus who is with Him in Heaven..,He had faith and that was enough.

We as believers attempt to build upon the foundation of Christ through adding to the faith given to us from God. We are told to add to our faith, virtue, knowledge, self control, perservance, brotherly kindness and love.

Definitely not hellfire, but didn't think we gotten to that yet.

We still have folks spitting up on us cause we are moving too fast. (wonder if anyone will be offended by that statement?)

Does it say holy spirit AND fire?
Or does it say Holy Spirit OR fire?

If it's and then it talks about a refining fire.
If it's Or then it's talking about hellfire.

I like this,

One could say a "babe" in christ will be the one who has nothing.. But the "mature" will have some rewards because they added to faith some if not all of those things.

I think we will find out there are more babes in Christ who will be in heaven than we thing.. We are two busy discussing grace and works, and not what makes a person a TRUE believer in christ.

He is talking in general.

Jesus, when he comes, Will baptize you (in general, all people) with the HS and fire.. (remember, John refused to baptize them in water, yet he said he baptizes you with water, he was speaking in general terms)

again, the term unquenchabe is what gets me, A refining fire is not an unquenchable fire.. It is used as needed to burn away the chaff of our lives..

THAT is the whole point. We do not know, if all we do is take a version as some men 500 years ago rewrote the original to fit their worldview of what it HAD to mean, and MUST have meant..... according to what THEY believed in the Medieval 1500's. If we do not know the original languages, we need to at least try to study people who have made it their life's work to attempt to understand what the ORIGINAL texts were saying.

Mark 9:43
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—

We cannot say "It COULD have meant THIS.... or, it COULD have meant THIS OTHER. I liike THIS notion, so I will build my belief on THAT."
