You know who Lowkey is by now? Who is Lowkey? Kareem Dennis (23/5/86), better known by his stage name Lowkey, is an English rapper, and political activist of Iraqi descent. He first became known through a series of mixtapes he released before he was 18, before taking a hiatus from the music business. He is known for his controversial lyricism on real life issues.

This guy (Lowkey) isn't just another English rapper. His lyrics aren't "gang related". His lyrics don't promote hate and violence. His lyrics don't boast about riches, fortune and fame like so many rappers who sell their soul to the industry do.

His lyrics promote eduction and learning. His lyrics strike a chord with anyone that has a heart and asks questions about the system, about the world we live in and whether the evil we see happening around the world even has to be.

In his song and video "Ahmed" Lowkey Ft Mai Khalil, a song about an innocent child named Ahmed who died while fleeing his war torn country. Died drowning at sea. Died because of the governments policies that caused his countries war in the first place.
LOWKEY FT. MAI KHALIL- AHMED (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

To quote some of the most poignant lyrics from the song.
Did Ahmed not deserve a life?
Ahmed never hurt a fly
Ahmed never knew the politicians he was murdered by
Certain times Ahmed wished that he could be a bird and fly
Beyond the sky
Escape the curse of birth that he was burdened by
Ahmed never grew to let your racism internalise
Water poured from every pore in his corpse while the nurses cried
Ahmed was a beautiful person like you or I
But are we?

Ahmed’s ancestors introduced to Europe Greek philosophy
Brought with them irrigation, mathematics and astronomy
Symbolically, the irony of this horror isn’t lost on me
Trying to get to Europe via Greece where he’s lost at sea
Ahmed not Achmed, it’s Ahmed
He’s that dead
Toddler lying lifeless on the beach with his back bent
Arms spread, reaching the direction that his dad went
If he made it here would have been bullied for his accent
He was captured by the ocean
Paralysed and frozen
While these parasites sat and typed, analysing clothing
Now for resources we all compete
Beyond the talk of war and peace
And talk of porous border there is corpses on the shore of Greece
They found a teddy next to where his body was found
The sea swallowed him, politics has swallowed him now
And those responsible, Ahmed’s ghost will follow them now
To the family all we can say is we are sorry he drowned

Now I know you can't watch this video and hear the song and not feel something for Ahmed. And not just for Ahmed, but for all those that have lost their lives at sea trying to escape the fighting in their war torn country.

And you can't watch it and actually hear the words and not question the world you live in. Can you? Doesn't it invoke something in you that you can relate to and agree with about the world today?

Doesn't it make you question the world you live in? For me it does. It strikes a chord, it inspires and it motivates me. And I love uplifting Christian music. But are there any Christian rappers/singer out there that rap about the same things?

Show me a Christian singer/rapper that raps/sings about some of the same things and in the same way. A way that grabs your attention, strikes a chord and plants a seed and makes you think and question things!

Is it just me, I like my Christian music! I like uplifting, empowering and positive songs. But it seems even some Christian singers/song writers/rappers don't like talking/rapping/singing about some real world events/atrocities such as these.

Why is that?

I haven't listened to rap since the mid 1980's, but I remember one.

And here are the lyrics.

I wouldn't know who he is because I absolutely hate rap I can handle country I even like some opera and I am always for rock and roll and some hip hop but rap is offensive to my ear buds lol

Why is that?

I have no control over what Christian artists, or any other artists sing about.

Therefore, I have no obligation to explain or defend them.

However, even if Christian singers were the worst in the world, I doubt that would move me to embrace a Muslim Activist.

@maxwel. That's quite shallow man? So what if he's a Muslim? Why discriminate? That's exactly the sort of thing Lowkey is talking about in his song. It's that same discrimination that caused a young Ahmed to loose his life at sea.

Ahmed was just a human being just like you and me wasn't he? Just an innocent soul. Ahmed could have been a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer or something else that you all hold so highly.

Yet because Ahmed never had a passport, he was considered illegitimate and less deserving of life than you and I?

Where is the Agape (selfless) love that God has for you?

@Blain I hear you! And for the most part, I find most rap offensive as well. Like I said, most rappers rap about guns and crime and they glorify it. But Lowkey's raps are about making you question your morality. No other rapper/singer before him has even come close to talking about the same sort of things that are happening in the world right now. With such compassion and without selling his soul out to the commercialized media.

I'm just saying, this isn't normal rap. This is someone who is educated and isn't afraid to stand up and say the things that speak for a billion peoples hearts and minds. A voice of our generation.

And it doesn't matter if he's Muslim, Christian or a Buddhist. What matter is what he's saying. And they're words that you just can't ignore as there's nobody else saying these things! Why do we want to silence people like that?

I'll leave you with his other video. Perhaps this one will let you more see his HUMAN side. And maybe LOWKEY - MY SOUL might even give you something to relate to. If you're a human being..

Sorry if I sound like I'm being condescending to you @Blain. I don't know, it just evokes something in me you know!? I just hope that God gives us some Christian singers that sing with the same passion and fearlessness to speak of truths that most people don't want to speak about for fear of reprisal or something. That ain't right!
