There is nothing we can do to make God save us or to make God maintain us...all of that comes from God. On the other hand, there is something we can do to keep God from saving us, and there is something we can do that would keep God from maintaining us. That something is our option to choose. Millions of people go into hell against the will of God because they had the option to choose and they chose to ignore or reject God. There are those who have chosen to accept God, but later chose to reject God...how could they do that? Because they had the option to chose to accept and later to reject. When we come to Christ, God does not remove out option to choose. If you don't believe that then look at all the different views in this Christian forum.
So where exactly is this sentiment recognized in Scripture?

So God gives you the gift of faith to believe In Jesus. You believe. You accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. You are sealed with the Holy Spirit. Then God takes away the gift of faith He gave you? If HE DOESN'T take your faith away then how can you no longer believe?

I don't know ask all the people who believed and then sometime later turned away from God. Why did the Jewish people time and time again see God's miracles but turn away from him to follow false Gods. This goes back to my questions at the beginning. Do the people that turn from God, never really was called by God? If God chose to elect his people with predestined foreknowledge. Then maybe this guy who turns away was not chosen. If confused on what I a referring to go back to original questions.

Come to think of it I have never heard of faith being called a gift. To me it's a free will thing.

It takes the free will to want to believe that allows God to enter into a relationship with you. God is the seeker for all to believe and be given eternal life. So he who seeks will surely find the seeker. But he who ignores the seeker will never know the true relationship between God and man.

You've never heard of Ephesians 2:8-9?

Also, I don't know a single person that confessed Jesus as Lord, and believed in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, that no longer believe that.

Read the story of Charles Templeton if you dare. This is the story of a man who was saved and preached the gospel for years and lost his faith by believing evolution rather then the bible. He turned from God and never came back...it can happen.

I actually do know such a person - but actually he is not single anymore - he got married after he quit believing - almost married a Muslim - So I will have to rethink if I know a single person who has stopped believing? LOL!

Cool awesome gift but the free will still stands. Even if we preach the word and someone has enough faith to look into God but decided it wasn't for him then they freely choose. But I know quite of few people from my highschool days who believed but now have gotten their minds warped by the world to fight my every word for God

As they say sometimes we have to pull our heads out of the book and see the spiritual war around us. This stuff happens every day. A gift is given but any gift I know of can also be denied or lost.

Once saved, always saved? I would say if you are saved. Then you will seek the will of God. To seek the will of God you must know and learn about Him, by Him. Not for your glory, but for His. You must seek Him and love Him with all of your heart, soul and might. When you do, He will draw you into himself and make you more like his Son. Now to get there it is hard and rocky. The devil with throw everything at you. Your greatest temptations. Anything in the world to distract you. You may stumble, but you must get back up with Gods strength, refocus and keep moving forward. You either Love God, or you love the world. You either seek God to please Him, to serve Him for His honor and glory. Or you seek your will, and the glory of man. It is written, as you know, many will stand before Him professing, didn't we cast out devils, and preach and do great works in your name? He will reply, I never knew you, depart from me. Can a saved man be distracted, yes. Can a saved person stumble? Yes, for even Peter denied Christ three times. However, can a saved person forget the greatest Love of his life? The moment the Holy Spirit fell upon him? He may stumble and toil, then he will realize he is lost and go back to find His greatest love. Because a saved person who has been touched by God knows nothing!!!! NOTHING!! In this world compares to being near to God. When we are toiling or distracted, we feel emphty and lonely and unfulfilled. All humans have this emphtyness in them. They try to fill it with the worldly things, drugs, sex, alcohol, possessions. Never being sayisified they continue down this path. When you have truly sought God with your heart, and he has baptized you with His Spirit. That moment, for lack of a better term, you are complete. You drink of the everlasting spring, your cup runs over and your are whole. I have had the spring within me. I have stumbled, I have fallen. Because I allowed the devil to distract me with the world. I lost focus, now I am striving to seek my Fathers will again. My greatest love! To live for Him, anything less then that, is a waste of time and seeking the world. Nothing in this world matters to me, it is only the Will of God and His love I seek. Because He loved me and called me, because His son lay down his life for all. So can a "saved" person become lost? What does the parable about the seeds and the sower say? You must decide whom you love and will serve. Anyone who loves anything more then God is not worthy, it is written. He is the judge of the world, I am just a witness in the world, but by the grace of God. Not part of the world anymore. He must be your focus, and your center. He who has hung the stars and the planets has made them to dance in perfect harmony following His guidance and will. If we do not surrender to God we try and dance and orbit around the things of this world which causes for chaos in our lives. Therefore, surrender yourself to a God that He shall put you in orbit where you belong. Focused and centered, orbiting around Him, in perfect harmony with His will. Then you will know the Truth. God will set you free.

So since people do turn from God everyday. Are you saying all will eventually turn back to God? Or are you suggesting that the people who do turn away from God or doesn't live for God but was technically saved, wasn't really saved?

I would say this, seek to build up your treasures in heaven. For where your heart is there also is your treasure. A gardener prunes, why? To get rid of dead ends that stifle growth. That allows the tree/plant/bush to continue to grow. The gardener has not cut down the bush/tree/plant. He has nearly cut it. So that that which was stopping it from growing would be removed. This is done our of lov for his plants. Now sometimes, there are trees as it is written who bear no fruit. Do you remember that in the Bible? Even then it is pleaded give me one more season to get this tree to bear fruit before destroying it. Men who truly have k own God and loved Him. Will Reuters to Him because they love not their lives or this world. The dead ends are the things in this world which stifle our growth in God. God disciplines those whom he loves. We realize we have strayed and seek his face again. Because we love him. Some however get stifled with the world and never grow. Yet He doesn't and won't give up on us. It is us who give up on Him.

I believe more evidence in this thread points to it does matter how a believer lives after being saved. You cannot believe in Christ but keep up the same old lifestyle and keep salvation. That defeats all of the NT teachings on how to live a life that glorifies God. Why tell us all these teachings to live a Christ like life if it really doesn't matter how we live as long as we believe. Yes we have scripture to back both arguments, but when you add the 2 together you understand a Christians life must believe and improve or there is nothing keeping us from wanting to be better people if salvation is locked in. Maybe this teaching is why we have so many lukewarm people. Why try if salvation is locked in. Maybe this is why we have so many Sunday Christians that revert to acting worldly during the week. When put together you realize salvation comes from belief and how one lives as a Christian. Otherwise we wouldn't have scripture backing both arguments.

Amen, that is why it is written: works without faith is useless. Faith, without works is useless.

Agreed. The whole bible should be read as one and not take certain scriptures when truthfully we have scripture pointing to both arguments. Only indicating both are important to salvation.

He (God) doesn't take away your faith. We get distracted with the world. The devil tries to distract you from taking up your ctodd and following Christ. He may attack your faith. Any weak point you have he will come after you from. This is to keep you from dreading the Bible and seeking Gods will. Everyday!!! Not just as another brother put it Sunday. He is to be the greatest love of your life. Why do you think Christ re-iterated the greatest commandment? If He is our greatest love. Then we will seek Him, every second of everyday. In seeking you shall find. In finding you will be changed. You will be tempted and tested as you start your journey and continue on. You must push on

The scriptures clearly show, in more than the places I've itemized below, that this has happened from the beginning of the church and you might want to look up Charles Templeton on Wikipedia. He originally partnered with Billy Graham in great crusades across America and after many years recanted his faith.
