1. This forum is only for introducing yourself.
2. The Family or bible forum is more appropriate for your OP.

Max
Why would you find any of that offensive? Would you prefer I just not be honest? Ive come here to learn and partake in this forum. I just don't understand why you feel the need to bully me. I have a hard time feeling bad about expressing my views. I am sorry that they upset you so much.
Quoting your own words back to you, and asking questions about them, is not being a "bully".
The Bible actually teaches us to question and test people's words.

If you aren't ashamed of your own words, then quoting them back to you shouldn't be a problem.

So far, you have actually started making accusations against ME.
You came to a christian forum, made statements which you KNOW are antithetical to our beliefs, and CONTROVERSIAL.
So how can anyone here be a bully for QUESTIONING YOU for BEING INTENTIONALLY CONTROVERSIAL?

You came here making intentionally controversial statements,
and when I questioned you about your own words...
YOU have started making accusations against ME.

I didn't call YOU any names.
But you've done that to me.

You don't get to come here, make intentionally controversial statements, and then when someone questions you... you get to call them names and act like a victim.

Watching this same thing happen every day just makes me tired.

It's so transparent.

And so old.

I might have to disagree, I have had discussions with people and have noticed they will often times say its better to believe so you don't end up in hell. That sounds more like fear to me. Which i guess is where the phrase fear of god comes from. I often think this is why people close to death find god. They might not truly believes but it gives them peace and that is very important for most people.
That is a very true observation because the Christian Worldview is the only worldview that not only knows but also attempts to explain the true state of humanity. Again it comes down to what makes MOST sense given the reality and world we live in.

Max, I hate to further upset you with more comments but you did call me an atheist. Which I am not, I found that offensive.

So far I have just been open and honest with my interest in this forum. So far you are the only one who has had an issue with me being here.

You're not an atheist?

I'd love to clear that up then.

* Your profile says you're not a Christian.

* You clearly said you don't believe in God.

* Then you said you think the world would be better off without religion at all.

So... you aren't a christian, you don't believe in God, and you don't believe in any kind of religion.
That is all taken from your own words.

So, if you aren't a christian, don't believe in God, and you don't believe in religion...
and now you say you're not an atheist...

then what exactly is your belief system?

I said the world would be less violent without religion.

I don't really have a belief system. Also you really dont need a label and you dont need to label people. Just accept people and give them a chance.

I just enjoy learning about different religions. One thing you will learn in life is that you can learn something from everyone you meet. It just takes an open mind and a few minutes of your time.

Sure :) If it is true that there is a hell and believing in Christ ensures ones eternal wellbeing, then one is not merely responding out of fear of hell but are responding out of a love for the truth. Now i agree with you that people do indeed believe because they have a healthy fear and view of Gods judgement i.e. hell, but what makes a world view consistent and grounded is not what people are feeling or not feeling but rather what makes a consistent and grounded world view is its ability to accurately reflect every single aspect of reality and give answers for why this is the case.

Regardless of if you if believe in God or not having the ability to learn from others is a very good trait to have many here in cc could use this ability lol.

What im saying is that the Christian faith accurately makes the most sense out of everything and therefore has a firm grip on reality and attempts to explain it How? Through Jesus Christ who taught the truth about humanity, the truth about reality and the truth about himself. Ultimately claiming he is TRUTH because in him everything makes sense and in him is where we find ultimate meaning and purpose.

Atheism:

People who don't believe in God are called atheists.

That's the definition of the term.

If you don't believe in God, you are, by definition, an atheist.

It doesn't matter whether or not you like the term.
If you do not hold to theism, then you are an atheist.

You may call yourself whatever you like,
but the rest of the world will probably call you an atheist,
because that's what you are... you fit the correct definition.

* I can call myself a spotted goldfish, but I'm still a human.
* You can say you "don't need a label"... but you're still an atheist.

I refuse to descend into semantic absurdity just because someone else wants to live there.

I'm not defending him or anything but some people don't like labels. Me for instance I don't like to be called by any denomination not even nondenomination as that itself is a denomination and I don't even like calling myself Christian I simply call myself a child of God.

I am a Christian but My identity is simply a child of God

Even though you googled the definition of atheist, I still wont accept you calling me that.

Blain,

Let's move beyond your own dislike of denominations, and deal with the real issue I was originally dealing with above... the fact that an atheist wouldn't admit he was an atheist.

In our post postmodern relativistic culture...
many people try to avoid any kind of label just to avoid REALITY and all ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THAT REALITY.

If you're a boy who wants to be a girl, you just say, "I am now a girl," and everyone is supposed to pretend you've magically turned into a girl. Just by changing your label from boy to girl, we're all supposed to believe you have somehow ACTUALLY CHANGED from a boy to a girl.

Chickenkiller, who by all definitions is an atheist, wants to say, "I'm not an atheist", as if those 4 words will magically transform him into something else. Well, they don't.

We have this mutual convention called language, that helps us to communicate.
We have words for things.
If the whole world looks at an oak tree and calls it a "tree", but YOU choose to call it a "donkey"... well... it's still a tree.

I nicely asked you to stop posting on my thread. You are not adding anything to the conversation, all you were doing was calling me a name I found offensive. Thanks for what you have done, but its time to stop.

I'll reiterate:

This is what "free speech" is like.
