I searched to see if this had been discussed anywhere on CC, and came up with nothing. But if I missed it, somehow, could a mod just close this thread. I hate repeated threads!

I was just thinking and reading through some posts. Basically, the BDF does not have a lot of mods in it. Since it is the biggest forum on CC, I have to think perhaps it is time to pick and add some new ones? I know the job is huge, and thankless.

And I do thank Oncefallen and CS1 who seem to get stuck with the job! But wouldn't it help if there was at least one or two more mods? A few have quit since I joined, and from what I have seen, they were not replaced.

And yes, I am sure picking a mod could be a really difficult task, in the BDF. And no, I certainly do not want to go to an overmoderated BDF. That would be the other end of the extremes. But just a head or two more to pop in, and calm down discussions, sort through all the angry reports, and on occasion, if warrented, ban someone or close a thread.

Any volunteers? Just joking! Who thinks this might be a good idea?

I think it is being handled quite well as it is.

Hi Angela,

I agree, I do think it would be helpful.

We certainly do need at least a couple more mods for that place. People who are on cc and frequent the bdf often who are level headed and won't let doctrine or heated debates affect them

Well mods don't actively check the forums typically. That's why they have a report button. And the sites stance is that they don't want to moderate the site more than they already are.

I guess maybe I have been here long enough to remember when we had more mods in the BDF, and how well managed it was. There was never the "fighting" although people would disagree about theology. But it never became personal.

I know things are not bad right now, but it won't take much for the fighting to escalate, is my opinion.

Well, I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions about this.

Personally I think there should always be at least one mod online at all times of the day. I used to moderate a football forum (in my pre-Christian days and yeah it got heavy lol) and this was always the case. It should be easy as we have members from all corners of the world who could cover different time zones. This place seems to be sparsely covered for much of the time and reports do not get immediate attention.

And where would we get these people? Lots of people like to make suggestions, but few are willing to step up to the plate. Too, how do you vet someone for this? Certainly the current mods should be the ones choosing new mods, but their hands are full as it is.

When I was working, if you made a suggestion you got to head it up. So, I nominate Angela53510 as the first new mod!

You aren't allowed to volunteer apparently they have to approach someone. I think we are stating our opinions quite well here don't you?

I don't enjoy getting yelled at any more than anyone else, but what would be worse is a website where you can only say things that the administrators and moderators agree with. I think this is a great site.

I don't agree. I'm seeing the F word, the S word and other really unkind things being said toward others.

If/when we can't moderate ourselves, which we can't, we need mods to help guide discussions in the right direction.

We already have rules like no bad language, but it's happening. So moderating the rules won't put a damper on disagreement, and hearing the other side, but hopefully will ward off the bad language and the hateful speech, the belittling and unkind words.

Would that be so bad? I see it as helping to train us to respond righteously, sort of helping to disciple those who need it.

How many do you think walk away because of it?

If we jumped on people for their language in our church, we would have none of the people Jesus told us to go out and find, the lost ones, even approaching us.

I don't think people who are humble nominate themselves

True but to see Christians say these kinds of things is upsetting, just last night a Christian here who I will not name called someone a douche bag. This is simply unacceptable. I know some Christians don't see cussing as a big deal but I never saw Jesus cuss

Amen, Blain! Jesus thinks it's a big deal.

Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:29-32

Haha! This is my laugh of the day! Funnier than even the Babylon Bee. I think if they had wanted me as a mod, they would have asked me long ago. Further, if they did ask me, I don't think I would accept. I ran a Christian group long ago, before I found CC. It was a 24/7 obsession. Not going to happen again! I have learned my lesson!

But thanks for thinking of me! LOL. I am pretty sure you were just trying to pin me to the wall for bringing this up in the first place! So, keep up the one man comedy hour! It is great!

That's the issue Angela. Those who are qualified and trusted, don't want the responsibility that comes with the power.

It would be harder to discuss things because ...are you talking as a member or as a moderator?

I still hold that if long time members check themselves and each other, decent discussions can occur.

Only respond to those who by their words show they want discussion.

Address points and not gossip about people.

See that some may lash out in anger when in pain or distres, and forgive them.

If we (those who claim to be mature Christians) display Heavenly wisdom, instead of engage in profane and idle babblings, then we can change the atmosphere of the site.

More mods would be an external change forced upon people.

What we need is an internal change where we have mature Christians mentoring others and not making excuses for their own misdeeds and anger.
