He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. - John 8:44

We have to remember that Satan is the father of lies. He is a murderer from the beginning and dwells in falsehood. He never wants the glory to go to Jesus Christ but rather twists the truth and deceives those in the Lord’s work to take glory to themselves. Satan is also the master counterfeiter who has been deceiving God’s people since the beginning. He spoke to Eve and deceived her by twisting the truth of God saying, “Has God indeed said?” Such twisting of the truth is his normal activity. Since the earliest days of the apostles, even with our Lord himself, there were deceivers and false brethren present: those who secretly come into God’s flock for personal gain and to infiltrate the liberty of the believers, betrayers, deceivers, false brethren, false prophets, and those desiring preeminence among the saints (3 John 1:9). Diotrephes and one's like him did not seek honour in the church as much as sought his own truth, his own way and seperated himself from the doctrines of the Apostles and all the other Churches. He was stubborn to think he was right and all others were wrong. A false teacher is always who is in admidst but then seeks to draw people "out of" towards themselves. Just like satan, these false teachers do not have, "the truth in them."

One key to understand the working of God versus Satan in a meeting of believers is the emphasis put on the Son of God. Those that worship, honor, and glorify the Holy Spirit more than Jesus Christ are not led by the Holy Spirit to do that. The Holy Spirit will always honor Jesus Christ; thus the true working of the Spirit can be distinguished in measure. The Scripture states: “He shall not speak of himself” (John 16:13). All early Church creed statements always elevate the work of the cross and the incarnation of the Son of God. In the end times, there will be an influx of those in the Church teaching doctrines of demons to deceive even the elect of God. There will be many false teachers who claim to be of the truth but are not. The most dangerous weapon against the Church is not persecution, but deception. One key feature of these deceptions is that there is something new offered, when rather we should be seeking to believe the truth that is old and that which the Church has held to from the beginning.

2 Corinthians 13:14

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

All God in His various manifestations.

Grace given to us through the blood of Christ needs to be taught. The unconditional love of God given to us again through the blood of Christ needs to be understood. But we are also to be taught on the Holy Spirit's role in the church today (also given to us by Christ), how he uses us to minister the (gifts) that Christ wants to extend to those in need of the specific gifts. Since the Holy Spirit is the One who is indwelling us, we need to know the power, wisdom and love (fruits) that are resident in us. He plays an important role in the church today as Teacher, Comforter, etc.

In churches where I have seen these teachings take place correctly, I have even seen a greater depth of worship given to Jesus. Because to focus on the Holy Spirit is to focus on the Spirit of Christ.

Don't think so, to many false spirits are being called the Holy Spirit to focus on the spirit, just focus on God the Father and on Jesus Christ and you will be led by the real Spirit.

[h=1]We should look for the "ancient path" the model of the original church and "walk in it", but most say "we will not walk in it"

Jeremiah 6:16English Standard Version (ESV)
[/h] [SUP]16 [/SUP]Thus says the Lord:
“Stand by the roads, and look,
and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,
and find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

This is an excellent verse to consider, God is not doing new things but old things through the work of the Holy Spirit. In the last days there will be many new doctrines and ideas coming forward that the Church never believed, we must be on the watch for these.

Tony Campolo is a good example of someone who seems very much to be a counterfeit.

He is hugely popular among "Evangelicals" even though he has come out guns blazing in support of gay marriage and gay sexuality...AND is an avid practitioner of "Contemplative Prayer" occultism. A very strange practice of "vain repetition". A thinly veiled occult practice coming directly out of Yoga chanting practices, Hare Krishna practices and other Eastern religions which advocate various forms of 'mindlessness'.

Campolo quote on his Contemplative Prayer chanting: "I say His name over and over again, for as long as fifteen minutes, until I find my soul suspended in what the ancient Celtic Christians called a "thin place" Link

Video: Tony Campolo - Why I support gay marriage

Campolo is totally deceived. One could open a so called church that only let in those couples who were living in adultery. Guess what, you would find some couples there who are more satisfied and in love then you could find in couples who are not living in adultery....and that would prove??? Nothing! I remember one fellow who said that his sister was gay, also that he loved his sister very much...therefore being gay is alright. No intelligent reasoning there. Poison does not cease to be poison just because it is placed in a chocolate cake.

Jesus and the Holy Spirit are One... You speak as if they are different beings.. One who is worshipping the Father is also worshipping Jesus and the Holy Spirit and one who is worshipping Jesus is worshipping the Father and the Holy Spirit.. They are One..

The problem we have today is that a lot of falses spirits have came into the church through the pentecostal movement that started around 1906. People begin to yield to these spirits and after a time all they talk about is the spirit did this or did that and it is not the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus said that the Spirit He was to send would not speak of himself but would glorify Jesus. This is pretty cut and dried, the real Holy Spirit will speak of Jesus not himself. So when folks start speaking constantly about the spirit and the anointing of the spirit rather then about God the Father and Jesus Christ we can be assured from scripture that they are not being led by the Holy Spirit.

I have read that there are around 30,000 DIFFERENT Christian denominations claiming to be the church. In the first century there was just THE church (singular), and since there was just a single church started on the day of Pentecost in acts chapter 2, that means there is still just one church with scriptural rights to exist. What does this mean? It means that there are around 29,999 counterfeits and only one true church. This is the work of the deceiver without doubt!! We must learn strictly the bible and the bible only, drop any tradition or custom that contradicts with what scripture says. I am not judging anyone's beliefs, but I say that all of us (myself definitely included) should honestly examine ourselves and everything against scripture to know if we are truly a piece of Christs body or if we have been deceived, it is a scary thing.

You need to go back and read the Catholic Catechism which created the doctrine Trinity. They are established as three distinct and separate personages;

"The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion -- the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another."
The Blessed Trinity - Encyclopedia Volume - Catholic Encyclopedia - Catholic Online

~~~~~~~~~~~~
254 The divine persons are really distinct from one another. "God is one but not solitary."[SUP]86[/SUP] "Father", "Son", "Holy Spirit" are not simply names designating modalities of the divine being, for they are really distinct from one another: "He is not the Father who is the Son, nor is the Son he who is the Father, nor is the Holy Spirit he who is the Father or the Son."[SUP]87[/SUP] They are distinct from one another in their relations of origin: "It is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds."[SUP]88[/SUP] The divine Unity is Triune.
237 The Trinity is a mystery of faith in the strict sense, one of the "mysteries that are hidden in God, which can never be known unless they are revealed by God".[SUP]58[/SUP] To be sure, God has left traces of his Trinitarian being in his work of creation and in his Revelation throughout the Old Testament. But his inmost Being as Holy Trinity is a mystery that is inaccessible to reason alone or even to Israel's faith before the Incarnation of God's Son and the sending of the Holy Spirit.
So if God is a Spirit according to John 4:24, then is the Father the Holy Spirit since the Holy Spirit was not given unto after the Word of God was crucified according to John 7:39; (By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.)
Yet in Luke 2:25-26, Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Messiah.
1JOHN 2:15-16-17-18-19.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world,
the love of The Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,
is not of The Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come,
even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us,
they would have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest
that they were not all of us.
27.
But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:
but as the same Anointing teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie,
and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.
29.
If you know that He is Righteous, you know that every one that does righteousness is born of Him.
it's kinda wearisome to always hear "but most do not/wll not etc"
what about all those who do try hard to walk in His ways.
and therein is the actual problem
people cannot seem to agree what that might be, so the pendulum swings really hard in both directions and the endless threads on the same subject continue...I have never seen a site like this one for that one argument
I don't know why there is such a battle royal over this over and over ad infinitum
someone point me to it, but as far as I know, there is nothing in scripture that indicates we are to pray to or worship the Holy Spirit
I do believe the Holy Spirit is the 3rd Person of the trinity, but His work is always to point us to Jesus who points to the Father
(simplification)
my radar goes up , frankly, when people start with 'the spirit this and the spirit that'
which spirit pray tell? which spirit?
everybody so far seems to agree good works/righteousness are PART OF OUR SALVATION experience.
LOL!
except for those who don't
I believe some are just talking past each other and cannot wait to post a response without actually digesting the one they received from their previous post
that, is not communication
and don't even start with those who put subjective material as part of the gospel for part of their 'faith'
we do not agree on several things...quite opposed...but common sense is common sense even when discussing scripture
I am starting to think that some are calling 'faith' the fruit of the Holy Spirit
This is true. However, the error compounded when those who saw this happening then threw out the truth with the falsehoods.
True again, but the flip side is that there are those who believe that ANY mention of the Holy Spirit is an elevation of the Spirit above Christ. The true acts of the Holy Spirit do glorify Christ, but that doesn't mean we are to never talk about them. Discussion and elevation are two different things.
(Not disagreeing, just expounding).
