Is the challenge to believe in Christ or to know what walking with Christ is?

It seems the only point being made is where is our confidence, in our behaviour
or in Christ? Now as we walk each day with faith in Christ, behaviour is not
why we are in Christ.

But because we are in Christ we walk in obedience to His words.

I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
John 5:42

Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
Rom 14:13

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Rom 8:6

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Col 3:2

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
1 Peter 3:8

But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
Matt 15:18

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Love and truth go hand in hand....You cannot have one without the other.........faith saves eternally....works do not save, never have, never will.......

New American Standard Bible
"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

King James Bible
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Eph 4:15

Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more as we see the day approaching.....

I know the verses and have never said one must not do works or bear fruit.....my contention has always been with those who blend faith and works as the means of gaining, keeping and facilitating salvation.....which is not a gospel that the bible teaches.....

In the grace you are (positioning) having been saved out of faith (the means of salvation) and that not of yourselves (the source of saving faith) it is the gift of GOD (freely given in Christ) NOT of WORKS lest any man should boast (nothing that we do which would allow us to say I DID IT)

It appears to be the things you do to try and justify yourself.

It is only mentioned in hebrews addressing Jews who have a very strong legalistic, justified
position, which once established is hard to shake off. I have seen this here on cc,
the ex-legalist is worse than the legalist condemning everyone who says morality is a good
thing.

I think 1st Corinthians 3 answers that question....

A believer can have two types of works......

a. Believer "a" is faithful, led of the spirit (the word) and produces works akin to Gold, silver and precious stones
b. Believer "b" is unfaithful, worldly and produces works of wood, hay and stubble

BOTH have their works tried by fire

a. Believer "a" receives a glorious entrance into the kingdom with honor
b. Believer "b" is allowed in the kingdom but in shame and reproach<---saved so as by fire (I.E. salvation is all he has"

Dead works are the works of the flesh.....believers do this every day in some form or fashion

A good example....

A work of faith <--David killing Goliath
A dead work of the flesh <--David killing Uriah

David never lost his salvation, he did lose the JOY of his salvation and asked for that back, and suffered in his physical life because of the dead works he had done.......

A dead work would be a work that produces no fruit. IE A work which does not glorify God, or a work which does not advance the kingdom of God. Help a brother or sister Grow. or serves as a light to a dark world.

Religious works would be a good example.

preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss.

salvation is not protected by the believer, but protected by a saviour.

dead work or work done, when walking in faith is a different thing, telling people about jesus the saviour, and his salvation. is not work, but a voice that speaks the truth from scripture, but still would ask , what dose a believer call, telling someone about a saviour.
is this our work, or the saviour work. you must agree , the puzzle is clear to see.

New International Version 1984 James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

And how does this have any bearing on biblical salvation?

ONE cannot produce anything unless they are already IN THE VINE....it is CHRIST that is the one PRODUCING...IT IS GOD that gives the increase.........

I believe the scripture is plain & clear to those who possess true faith. I cannot do anything against the truth but only for the truth & I cannot add anything to it's sanctity & power. I choose to submit to it.
