Has anyone here ever had a dream on a biblical topic? A friend of mine had a rather interesting dream few years ago that he told me about. Here is my friend’s dream:
He said that in his dream he was in a large room milling around with people. The room was so large it went as far as he could see in every direction. None of the people, including himself, knew exactly where they were or what was going on. He wondered if he was in heaven or possibly hell. He didn’t know very many of the people. But he saw a minister from another church, and some church-going acquaintances from his town. So he didn’t think it was hell he was in. Then an immense bright light came on. It was the brightest light he’d ever seen, but it didn’t blind him or the other people. It made the ceiling of the room, which he hadn’t noticed before, look like solid lightening. Everyone was in the light, and there was nowhere to go to be out of the light. The light illuminated every person and made them appear sort of translucent so you could see the person, but also see through them. You could look at someone in this translucent state and see everything they’d ever done in their life. Everyone was filled with shame over the things they’d done in their life that were revealed by the light. Everyone could see each other’s sins and worldly acts—all of them from their whole lives. The shame was overwhelming. People tried to hide from the light but couldn’t. Then some people noticed a wall with a large doorway or passage in it. Some of the people started going through the doorway to escape the light. Soon there was a mad rush for the door people tried to escape the light. His dream ended with lots of the people rushing to get out the door.
I’m not quite sure what to make of my friend’s dream. He is a Christian, and we talk about bible topics quite often. I’m not necessarily saying his dream was a vision. But I can’t help think that it might be. And even if not, it’s quite interesting—to me anyway. It made me think about the concept of shame in the bible. Shame is a concept that is hardly discussed at all by Christians, but is found throughout the bible.
