The way I see it, there are two camps here that are broken down as follows:

Both groups are for believers living now, *prior* to Christ's coming...

I am not Holy but work to become Holy.
I am already Holy because God sees Christ's holiness, and I can never work to become Holy myself.

I do sin, but I am working to eventually stop sinning through the grace/power of God because through that power I can stop.
I am a sinner who can never stop sinning. To even try is to deny the grace/power of God which covers them, placing me back into judgment.

There is work for me to do after I am saved by God. Good works
There is no work for me to do else I risk undoing my salvation.

God expects us to eventually become perfect like Christ; the captain of our salvation & head of the body. Wherever the head goes the body follows.
God doesn't expect us to be perfect because we can never be. Only Christ is perfect. It's why all sins (past, present, future) are covered by his life's blood.

Hopefully the items in both columns are fairly described for both groups...Of course there are more that can be added to both groups but I think for this thread on holiness what's listed is sufficient.

Now setting aside all arguments for a moment and just looking at both columns from a blank slate (not having to add any further explanation or apologetics to either group), if Christ freed us from bondage to sin, which column sounds like continued bondage to sin...and which column sounds like actual freedom from sin...simply from a basic reading of both lists?

["Bondage" means one is not set free from a person or thing, but is still a slave to continue to obey and do what that person or thing wants.]
I fit neither group, but good try.

Yup. There will be no "shoats" in the Kingdom.
I completely and with my whole heart trust in JESUS to save me. His blood alone atones for my sin. And it is a great offense to Him to think ANYTHING I do can ever change who He is and what He has done for me.

He saves completely. I AM NOT A CO-SAVIOR!
Now that I am saved, we can discuss what to do as a child of God. That's really what James is all about. You can almost hear James saying " you're a Christian? Fantastic!! Now what?"

But the Salvation part is 100% Jesus! I play NO part in atoning for my sin.
Thank you sweet Holy Lord!! I love you!
Your avatar is sideways.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev. 2:5

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Rev. 3:18-19

Much that I have read that has been posted is from seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. In fact, they are chasing spirits thinking it's the Holy Spirit!

1 Tim. 4:1-2, Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 [/SUP]Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Yes, you have to resist the urge to think about breaking them, also.

1. It is not that easy then/
2. It takes more than resisting.. That's not how the new testament writers told us to do it.. They told us to resist the devil. But as far as living righteous, To love others and God..

What does the Bible say that we must be like to be right with God to attain heaven.

We know we have to believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior, and the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

We have to be allow the Spirit to lead us,for if we do not have the Spirit we do not belong to Christ, and a Spirit led life will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

hagios
hag'-ee-os
From ἅγος hagos (an awful thing) compare G53, [H2282]; sacred (physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated): - (most) holy (one, thing), saint.

God said be holy, for I am holy, and God represents goodness, and we are to represent that too.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Those that do name the name of Christ has to depart from sin.

Adam and Eve ate off the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which means we have a choice between good and evil,so if a person does evil there is no excuse, for they could have chose the good.We are not forced to do evil, but if we sin it is because we want to sin,for we could have chosen the good.

Even the world can abstain from sin if they want to abstain from sin,but they are fleshy,so they want to sin,but we have a choice, and the world picks what sins they like, and what sins they do not like, which vary among the world.

It is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for we have a choice,so if we do evil there is no excuse, because we could of done the good, and sin does not pounce on us like a tiger, and twists our arm to sin,and we will sin and can do nothing about it,for we can choose to do good, and not the evil.

People act as if there is an excuse why we sin, like we cannot abstain from sin no matter how hard we try,and we are only human so we will sin,and act as if there is nothing we can do but we will sin,as if it is out of our control, but we can choose the good,so we have the power to abstain from sin,for we are not forced to sin,and we can choose the good, but we sin because we want to sin.

This is logical reasoning,we have a choice between good and evil, and can choose the good, and not the evil, and it is not because we cannot abstain from sin,but we want to sin is why we sin,we deliberately want to sin so we do it,for we have the choice to do good, and we are not forced to do evil, and can choose the good.

A Spirit led life will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, and abstain from sin, because the person that allows the Spirit to lead them does not want to sin, makes the choice they do not want sin in their life, but to represent goodness, and by the power of the Spirit they can abstain from sin,for the Spirit will guide them to do what is right, and God will not allow them to be tempted above that which they can endure, and will with the temptation also make a way to escape,so they can bear the temptation, and overcome it.

A Spirit led life will abstain from sin,and the reason is because the person does not want to sin,and the Spirit causes them to attain that, which they still have the possibility to sin if they desire to sin,but if they do not want sin,and allow the Spirit to lead them, they can abstain from sin.

It is not because we cannot abstain from sin,for even the world can abstain from sin if they want, and they choose which sins they like and which sins to stay away from, but we sin because we want to sin.

If a person claims Christ and they sin,it is not because they cannot abstain from sin,for they can choose good, and not the sin,for it is in their power to choose the good, but they want to sin plain and simple,so there is no excuse for their sin,for they could choose the good.

But they want to make excuses,oh we cannot help it,but we will sin,and we are powerless to stop this sin,and it pounces on us like a rabid pitbull, and we cannot help it but to doeth it,but there is no excuse for we are not forced to sin,but they want to sin,and enjoy the sin plain and simple, when they can choose the good, for even the world can choose the good and not sin if they want, but what is a disadvantage to the world is that they are fleshy,so they want to sin,not forced to sin,but they want to sin,and even the world can abstain from sin if they want,as they abstain from the sins they do not like, for it is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and we can choose the good,we can choose the good,we can choose the good,so there is no excuse.

There is no excuse but they sin because they want to sin,and enjoy that sin plain and simple.Stop making excuses for something that is common sense, for we can choose to do good, and are not forced to do evil, and how much more if you actually did not want to sin,and mean it,and allowed the Spirit to lead you,but you do not want to give up sin,and you want to sin,so you make excuses that you cannot help it so as to convince yourself that you are still right with God.

We are not fooling God.You can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can never fool God,and if we have a choice between good and evil how do you have an excuse when you can choose the good.

No excuse.

Ok I thought I was being fair about it but that's all fine by me. I hope you know that Christ has only two groupings too, one of which we both will be forced into at the end of days: The Sheep and The Goats. I hope we both find ourselves in the right group when that time comes. We surely won't be able to utterly reject where we're put.
No you just imposed what you think people believe, Is that really fair?

or better yet.

Love the lord your God and your neighbor as yourself. and you will never be tempted.

We are only tempted when we look at self.. Thats why the law never made anyone righteous, it made us focus on self. and not others.

All well and good, but still has nothing to do with JESUS saving us.
When we don't resist temptation, we get into trouble. Why would someone waste their breath criticizing me for suggesting we all resist temptation?

Because the perception is you are making it a prerequisite to salvation
