Cathart: verb - To do something cathartic, to do something to blow off steam or relieve stress.

1. He's in the bathroom catharting (singing loudly) right now.

2. They've been catharting (stomping and slamming doors and acting generally grumpy) all over the place for the last two hours.

Do you cathart? Have you catharted today? :p

So it has been a long day, the boss has been on your case, the air conditioner in your car went out and you're just generally in a bad mood and you can't take much more without blowing a gasket. How do you let off a little steam? Slam a few doors? Yell at the next person who crosses your path? Go to a bar, get drunk and pick a fight? (Don't laugh, some people actually do this specifically to blow off a little steam. One reason why I never go there, you never know when somebody there will want to cathart.)

How do you cathart?

As always, I will go first because I started the thread and I can.

If the day has been stressful I usually take the back road home - at slightly high speed. I don't kill the engine, but I'm economical with the brakes. I never push it to dangerous levels. I stay well within the traction parameters of my vehicle and tires. And I never drive that fast when someone else is in the car, or when I'm driving someone else's vehicle. But if I've had a rough day and I'm driving my spunky little mazda home in the afternoon, someone living on the road I take home might say, "What WAS that beige blur?!" It's therapeutic for me and when I get home I have no desire to yell at anybody or kick the dog or anything.

I read, spend time outdoors where I can breath, play airsoft, play video games that I win at, workout on my punching bag, alone time, church, netflix, worship music mp3 and hanging out with older men as to kids my age usually get on my nerves.

All in all i fill everyday with stress relief exercises since very easily my anxiety can switch on leading to panic.

So I try to surround my self with God so at any instance i feel like panicking I can see a reminder to to run to Jesus. If I didnt have that my mind would not be able to focus.

I try not to cathart in public.

But no matter how hard I try... I always seem to do it when there's a pretty girl nearby.

That's the real reason why you open the car door for your pretty girl before walking around to your side....its not chivalry, it just gives you more time for catharting unbeknownst to her before getting in the car

My biggest stress reliever is hiking/walking. There are two parks in my town that I really enjoy walking in. One is by the lake and it's very peaceful. The other park is in the city but it doesn't feel like you're in the city when you're there. It was designed by the same person who designed Central Park in NYC. It's a popular place but it's a well take care of gem.

Flatulence jokes are expected, planned for and even encouraged - that's why I phrased the thread title that way - but please don't forget to answer the thread question.

I like to cathart by having a massage, a cool or warm shower ( depending on the weather) ,engage in some retail therapy on ebay or Amazon , phone my best friend or listen to a sermon about the topic that is bothering me on sermonaudio.com which has over 1 million sermons to choose from.
Other than that I also like to watch youtube videos about the end times because it reminds me that there are worse things one can go through, Jesus is coming back soon and " this too shall pass.":)

I don't have much stress because either I over prepare for everything or don't care about things enough to be bothered. However, my kids do have a tendency to get the better of me sometimes. When this happens I just have to dance. Usually some Carlton Banks action works. Generally it is accompanied by singing if there is no music playing. I'm not a serious guy even though my thoughts are usually on serious things. My sense of humour keeps me balanced, and light hearted.

How I actually cathart:

I typically will eat some comfort food and put on a favorite rerun tv series and veg out with phone turned off.

How I want to cathart (actively trying to establish havit):

Engage in some form of physical exercise and then open bible to read of His grace and love.

I made that verb up when I was in high school about 27 or 28 years ago, but someone else might have beat me to it.

Cleaning, cooking/baking, and more cleaning and cooking lol. Saturday I was so stressed that I took everything out of the refrigerator cleaned it from top to bottom wirh a toothbrush and sanitized it. I have been known to take perfectly folded laundry out of the cabinet and iron it just to relieve stress. I also come up with new recipes....my newest is a fruit tart that I give to my friends and every time that I do they ask me what's going on lol....but I have been told I should enter one of those competitions on food network by a coworker, my response is a flat out nope lol

I think the definition is a bit off. Catharting is something you might do while watching a particularly moving movie. If you glance around you see other people's eye's fill up with tears as the hero dies. The audience is silent except for a scattered gasp or sob. And then you join in. You cathart right there in the movie theater.
