How do you know which one you have been gifted with? Which one do you have?

1 Corinthians 7:7 For I wish that all men were even as I myself.. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.

***being celibate is a gift to not "need" to be married*** most people's sexual drive is a sign marriage is God's calling** if a person can remain pure and wants to be single this would be an indication of God's purpose...

It's very simple:

The desire to marry is a burning you feel for the opposite sex.

It consumes you so you will seek out a mate, it's not a choice.

I agree.... Some are single and they are perfectly content. I believe even people that consider themselves asexual are one of those single ordained people but many who claim to be asexual are in the world so they don't recognize the calling... If you have a desire to be married then I believe you were called for marriage... The bible says God WILL answer our prayers and though it tarries wait for it, it will surely come.. I started praying about my God ordained husband eleven years ago and as of today still very much single with no sign of any husband ever and I'll be 40 sooner than I'd like to admit lol so I have asked myself this question many times about singleness and marriage..all I can do is trust God's timing and know that He knows..

I was married at 17 which was a mistake and ended in divorce 6 years later in my early twenties. Then 35 years of single, but I wasn't walking with God during some of those years so had a few relationships that weren't done the right way. I didn't know what to pray for because I had been married and the divorce wasn't because of adultery so I felt I couldn't remarry.

I would just say to God that I didn't know what to pray for in the area of marriage and left it at that. My ex-husband had remarried right away and that may have released me for marriage but I wasn't sure so I stayed single. In 2010 he passed away.

I met Tourist on this site and we were married and we were both 59 so don't give up hope quite yet as it can happen if it is what you desire. Tourist had been praying so God answered both our prayers even though mine was I didn't know what to pray for...God knows our hearts and has a plan. Better to wait for the right one as we fit together like a glove.

. That is indeed encouraging.. I have so many questions about marriage myself.. many people do remarry again after divorce and is it ok for me to marry someone who was once married or would that be adultery because technically even though I've never been married I'm not a virgin either sooo it raises some questions.. but I am soo glad you found your happiness.. God bless you.

God bless you.[Paul here wishes his readers were content, not necessarily single.he himself was probably a widower, but thats not the point, here.the point is that every man his proper gift of God.Cross reference verses !st Cor 7: 17 20 24 and 27.Both marriage and singleness are beautiful gifts of the Holy Spirit. Best explanation I've ever heard of this is that the gift you have is the marital status you find yourself with currently; and if that changes then your gift can also change. Find the blessings and advantages God has given you in your current state and honor him by being content and enjoying those advantages, not consistently whining about the advantages you don't have.

Heck if this gifting is based on desire or feelings my gifting probably changes weekly if not daily. Instead the weather is finally turning beautiful out and I'm going to take advantage of the freedom of singleness to go on a bike ride.

If I have a gift for marriage, it got lost in the lay-away department.

Whats more important is how you handle it. But I agree that both are a gift!

Yep.. What He said ...

I find it strange that people keep referring to either as a gift. To ee it's just the way it is (or isn't)

I don't see it neither as a blessing nor a cruse that I don't have a husband (or boyfriend for that matter), it just hasn't happened.... While I sometimes wish had someone to curl up with in the evenings, that doesn't mean I go around thinking "oh my why aren't I married?" :)
