I know this is a bit controversial so be nice to each other
and eat your chocolate Easter egg if you get mad at each other. Lol

I came across a comment about the following verses.

1 Timothy 4:1-5 NKJV
[1] Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart
from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
[2] speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with
a hot iron, [3] forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from
foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those
who believe and know the truth. [4] For every creature of God
is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;
[5] for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

It suggested the above verses show that in latter times, we will start to reject
the idea of all food being good and increasingly people will restrict their diet.
Increasingly people will call what God deemed to be good, to be bad and there
will be an increase in vegetarians, vegans, diary free, gluten free, carb free,
protein free and various fad diets as we enter the last days.

I just wondered what people thought about this. I know there are some
who have to go on restricted diets for various reasons. It might be due to
medical reasons or health reasons, or even allergies, or being over weight
and that is understandable.

There are two things the verses made me wonder about though.

1) Maybe denying the good natural things of God is an increasing sign of turning
away from God and turning to a man made materialistic world.

2) Maybe messing with GM foods, chemically created foods, foods with additives,
or foods with stuff taken out. Is also part of the above prophecy. I can't imagine that
at the time it was written, that by any stretch of the imagination, the biblical writers
would have had any inkling about the way our food is messed with in modern times.

I have a friend who is 87, she is as strong as an ox, still does her own gardening,
decorating. She is a Christian and for years she has refused to eat anything with
additives or anything with things taken out.

She only eats whole grain bread and cereals, she never has fruit juices and
insists the whole fruit is better. She mostly eats organic. She never has anything
with refined sugar etc.

But anyway the above verses got me curious as to what others thought.
Are our increasingly faddy diets and messing with food a sign of end times?

Maybe its inevitable that as we damage the planet, we also damage our food
chain and so will have no alternative but to eat what is man made towards the
end times?

As to the writer of these letters having knowledge of how our food would be messed with, as you put it (I would of too :D ), they might not have but the Spirit that moved them to write did. I think it's pretty plain in whet God calls good. You are right it would be anything foods not messed with, but exactly like God created it. Something that came to mind, we were vegetarians before the flood. After the flood God told Noah to eat, Genesis 9:3 "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything." interesting how He later told the Hebrews not to eat everything that moved.

These things are taking place now, I know someone that hangs around the Church who eats only veggies and claims to be a pastor (he doesn't have a Church or has he ever), he has stolen from the body many times. Because he think it's his to take, because he claims it in Jesus name.

It is a sign of the times, what times? The last days, but we've been in those since the book of
Acts, if we're in the last time I don't know and neither does anyone else.

I have isolated this particular observation of yours because it is something I ponder relatively frequently concerning the things that were written long before full revelation of Jesus Christ and God's purpose for humanity was given. I wonder how much the writers wrestled with what was given, trying to make sense of certain things when the full context had as yet not been revealed. We do see some evidence of this struggle to integrate knowledge into a comprehensive cohesive whole in Acts. Thank God for Paul's superior understanding :)

It does somewhat amaze me to think of how perfectly God has made all parts of Scripture work together, after thousands of years and a multitude of writers and writing styles. I heard a teaching yesterday that I have been trying to find online, about all the correlations between the first Adam and the last Adam... and feel so grateful to be living in a time when I can appreciate the simplicity and freedom we have in Christ, due to what He accomplished for us.

Change used to happen quite a lot slower in society than it seems to these days. I cannot say I am crazy about designer foods at all :p Genetically modified organisms and foods have not been around long enough to have had them proclaimed safe by any stretch of the imagination, and in fact, the pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides required to grow genetically modified food crops are destroying other elements of the fragile ecosystem, which can not be easily fixed. Mankind is responsible for drastically accelerating the rate of extinction of other species.

Of course Monsanto denies any connection between their neonicotinoids and the disappearance of bees and butterflies required for pollination many of our food crop plants, but why should anyone believe the multinational company that manufactures death while pretending to propagate life? Another of their justifications for food tampering is the goal of feeding the world's millions of starving people, but there are still millions of starving people despite their massive profits over the years.

Monsanto has attempted to take legal control of third world water supplies. Mark of the beast, anyone?

Hmm... restricted diet a sign of the end times? maybe.. perhaps a major sign is how women starve themselves saying their fat when their clearly not- not that it matters if you tell them this even though they ask for your opinion.....pft... women ;)

Well it's not like it's not a common practice. I mean even in the bible people ate strictly meat was a delicacy that was only allowed at certain times besides fish, the book of Daniel made me want to try eating only vegetables for a week and see how I felt but lets be honest I don't have the will power for that lol

I'm still of the mind that we've been in End Times for close to 2000 years. If it doesn't apply to all that time, I'm not of the mind to micro-climate it to just this time.

In my life time, according to teachers and then the media, we have been headed to an Ice Age, a greenhouse, an Ice Age, a greenhouse, and now back to somewhere in between. If all that can happen (or actually nothing much has happened) in the space of 50 years, do we then cut down Man's faddy ways to even a smaller amount of times?

It's not like faddy is new. There was a big fad a hundred+ years ago that shooting buffaloes was a favorite pastime in my country. In your country there used to be bears. Growing potatoes was a big thing. Growing the same plants in rows in the middle of our prairies caused a Dust Bowl. Drinking out of lead cups was a big thing when Rome was an Empire. When I was young, no one ate sea bass because they were the carp of the ocean -- a poor man's diet. Now they are a rich man's diet.

People are dumb, therefore we do dumb things until we can't do the dumb thing anymore. The only fad I see consistently run through the history of Man.

Even Jews do not eat piggy if they are kosher. Sometimes when you see the stuff about worms in some meats, it can completely put you off, and then others will scream about how fake it is, further clouding the issue. Hindus do tend to vegetarianism, but not all are, perhaps depending on social caste and/or region. It may be that they are not wanting to eat a former relative who has reincarnated as a lower life form, according to their beliefs. Veganism prohibits any animal by product such as milk, cheese, honey, eggs, and is not the same as vegetarianism :)

Well I'm not sure about a restricted diet of the end times; but if people would just quit eating all the restaurant food and just eat good clean food they would feel a lot better. You will start feeling amazing once you get your digestive system working properly.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

It is the New Age movement, that has an interpretation of the Bible based on the occult, nature worship, and spiritual evolution, that God warns the saints to be aware of it,and avoid it,which they command to abstain from meats, because they reverence animals being nature worshippers, and forbid to marry for population reduction, and the interpretation they got is by seducing spirits, and are doctrines of devils.

But it is because of how they view Lucifer in their interpretation of the Bible, that caused him to be able to influence them with falsehood, and they get in to contact with their guiding spirit, who surely is not a good angel.

Alice Bailey,a big prophet of the New Age movement, and their take on Lucifer, who believe the Bible holds truth,so you can see how they could be influenced by the devil with a false interpretation of the Bible.

LucisTrust.org,who promotes Alice Bailey's books, which was started by Alice Bailey, and her husband, but when she died they put out a website to promote her books.

There are comments on the World Wide Web claiming that the Lucis Trust was once called the Lucifer Trust. Such was never the case. However, for a brief period of two or three years in the early 1920’s, when Alice and Foster Bailey were beginning to publish the books published under her name, they named their fledgling publishing company “Lucifer Publishing Company”. By 1925 the name was changed to Lucis Publishing Company and has remained so ever since. Both “Lucifer” and “Lucis” come from the same word root, lucis being the Latin generative case meaning of light. The Baileys' reasons for choosing the original name are not known to us, but we can only surmise that they, like the great teacher H.P. Blavatsky, for whom they had enormous respect, sought to elicit a deeper understanding of the sacrifice made by Lucifer. Alice and Foster Bailey were serious students and teachers of Theosophy, a spiritual tradition which views Lucifer as one of the solar Angels, those advanced Beings Who Theosophy says descended (thus “the fall”) from Venus to our planet eons ago to bring the principle of mind to what was then animal-man. In the theosophical perspective, the descent of these solar Angels was not a fall into sin or disgrace but rather an act of great sacrifice, as is suggested in the name “Lucifer” which means light-bearer.

God warns the saints in the latter times there will be a false interpretation of the Bible based on the occult, nature worship, and because of that they will command to abstain from meats, and forbid to marry for population reduction on precious mother earth.

Which means the New Age movement will come to power in the world, and many people will follow it,and be the time they will not endure the truth of the Bible, but according to their own lusts, and be turned unto fables, for it is the imaginations of people.

I stopped eating meat the summer of 1971, and I have never regretted. I did it, because I cannot digest meat. Back in those days, I was treated like a weirdo. I made everything from scratch. There were no vegetarian hot dogs, or frozen Costco veggie burgers, which incidentally, I do like! Yet, I stuck it out.

After I met my husband, he forced me to cook and eat meat. That is when I started to get sick. After a few years, he told me to go back to eating like I wanted, and I did. Then about 10 years ago, he was coming up pre-diabetic. We went to a provincial workshop, and they basically described my diet. He came out of the meeting and apologized for ever having made me go tot he typical North American diet, because I was getting sick from it, and it was a much healthier way to eat.

Being a vegetarian is a lot more than just stopping eating meat. For one thing, you still need protein and you have to balance amino acids. Then there is eating whole foods, instead of adulterated white flour and sugar.

Then there is eating sugar, period!

Anyway, what I eat has nothing to do with end times. I don't try and convince anyone to eat the way I do, well, except for hubby, because he has to eat what I cook. And he likes vegetarian, although he chooses meat when we go out for dinner. I also know my oldest son, really needs to have a meat based diet. He was a vegetarian the first years of his life, and if we went to my parent's house, he would scarf down the meat like he was dying. His body type is very different than mine, and he needs meat. I started feeding him meat, because he needed it.

For me, the only "sign of the times' with regards to diet, is junk food. Talk about a plot by Satan to make people unhealthy! And technically, if you are eating the way God told Adam and Eve to eat, you would be eating a vegetarian, whole food diet. I realize God did give permission for people to eat meat after the flood, and if you need meat, you should eat it.

I always find it interesting that SDA's actually follow the dietary recommendations in early Genesis. Because scientists use them as a control group for how eating a whole food meatless diet extends life, and makes for much healthier people.

But hey, if junk food is what you want, then feel free to kill yourself eating it!

I'm not gonna lie for the longest time when I thought of an image of the average American in my mind I saw a really over weight man with a greasy cheese burger in his hand sitting at his computer screen in the dark. this was formed from seeing how so many of us eat so unhealthy and mainly stare at our screens whether that be our phones our t.v. or the computer. I mean if i could i would be out there experiencing life trying to new foods trying new things meeting and seeing the different kinds of people and cultures eating more healthy foods and actually living life.

but because how greatly i am limited both because of my body and money I cannot do these things like I want, I mean i don't want to stop eating meat or anything but people who have properly functioning bodies and have the ability to live life and go places and try new things have no idea how lucky they are

From 1975 to 1999, I was in good health, and had my fair share of fast foods and diner food. Ever since then, we eat mostly fresh food (the only processed food eaten is by me -- Frito's and kielbasa.) I'm not health anymore, and don't feel better than I did back when I ate junk. Oh, and really really, IBS-D, so nope on the "digestive system working properly."

"forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods..."

Please, realize that this verse is about authorities forbidding people to marry and commanding them to abstain from foods.

It is not about your own decision to stay single (like Paul) or to have a healthy/clean diet (like Daniel).

It is more about the roman catholic church, I would say. So the "latter times" could be 1000 AD, for example :)

I agree that the American life style is very unhealthy and killing most of Americans before their proper age, Too much sugar, too much fat, too much cars and stress.

On the other hand:
a) How do you know that Adam and Eve were vegetarians?

b) I think that commong healthy people need meat.
Pure vegans or vegetarians need to receive food suplements or superfood brought in from the ends of the world (and not being the natural part of the nature where they live) to fulfill the specific nutritions that are absent in the body when you do not eat meat.
From this it can be seen that we are made to eat meat as the part of our diet.

My diet has altered a lot in the past few years, but the changes have been more of an unconscious thing rather than me actively saying "I'm going to eat this or that".

I stopped liking sweets when I was a teenager. I can eat something like pancakes occasionally, but not often. I can't even stand to eat fruit. In the past few years though, I've somehow cut out snack foods while at the same time drastically increasing my fresh vegetable intake and reducing the amount of meats I eat. Aside from a couple of exceptions, I eat a diet that closely resembles the Paleo diet.

I wish though, that I was not responsible for shopping for food or preparing meals. I've grown to resent it, and with the resentment, I've grown to almost dread eating. I feel like I am forcing myself to eat.
