Whenever I feel afraid
I hold my head erect
And whistle a happy tune
So no one will suspect I'm afraid...

DustyRhodes' happy poem reminded me of the song... Simply asking, does anyone here still whistle? We lived near an in-law who used to whistle heartily.

You did not, however? Now i just recalled how as a child, i was trying so hard to learn how to whistle. Something that seemed so easy when i heard others do it, but for a while only air was coming out and not the sound of a whistle.

i can't whistle. dad could do so much with it, making bird calls, and different ways of whistling tunes. he even had a LOUD whistle he used to call us home for dinner from a mile away.

i used to be able to whistle a little but not exhaling, only on an inhale. (weird, right?)
must be something wrong with the shape of my mouth, so i sing. :)

When I get afraid, I get kind of pumped up with adrenaline and get indignant.
Think of Incredible Hulk cross Mighty Mouse. :)

Like the time two teens tried to snatch a sports bag I had, I raised myself up to
my full two foot one inch height, grabbed the individual (Im being polite calling him that)
and dragged him off to his parents house. I knew where he lived! He didn't expect that!

Then I whistle a happy tune to calm down. :D

I can't whistle at all. The closest I can get to whistling is making weird incomprehensible sounds that barely pass as 'music' while heavily exhaling, lol.

I love the sound of 'whistling' always have, there's something happy about it to me...
years ago people whistled a lot more than they do now - hubby whistles and I encourage
him to do it more...lots of the 'old-natural-arts' have and are dying away, unfortunately...

I can put (4) fingers into my mouth, (2) on each side and boy can it get loud...
I'm (70) now, so I don't do it to much anymore:)...

I bet you do really. Lol

I can whistle and play a tune with a leaf. You pick a nice biggish leave, one that has some
flexibility but does not easily tear. Also pick a smooth surface leaf not one which is hairy
or has a rough surface.

Fold it in half and pinch it together long ways leaving a thin hollow tube down the middle.
Pull it taunt to stretch it so the hollow bit is very thin and blow through it, the
leave vibrates and whistles. If you pull it tighter you get a high pitcher note, slacken it off a
bit and you can a lower pitched note. You can usually get a fair number of notes out of it and
it's cheaper than a saxophone!

I can whistle any tune I know, no kidding. It is my one talent. I cant remember a time when I could not whistle. There is an annual whistling contest in the U.S. I keep telling myself I am going to enter it, but haven't yet.

Galatea,

you definitely sound like a 'natural-born-harmonica' player...the similarities
of the instruments are so close, as well as with so many others...:):)

I love whistling, but Mom hates it so we've issued a "NO WHISTLING IN THE HOUSE" rule :D So I love to go out in the great outdoors and try to whistle bird songs!
