Jesus, while on the cross, asked that hundreds of people murdering Him be forgiven. I'm pretty sure that particular murder was deliberate and willful.

No sin is unforgivable, while God's promise with those who confess their sins is still in play on this earth, for He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness....(except the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit - but that's another thread)...but let me support a verse that joins into a direction I see you heading:

14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Romans chapter seven addresses the desire to sin and the occasional sin, especially verses 14-20. The sins that are not forgiven are the ones that no one feels remorse for and they keep on doing them. We almost always have an intent to sin, but Christians know it is wrong and that is the war within us between the flesh and spirit.
I agree with you that smoking is not a sin, but according to Colossians 2:16-23 we need to do our best to overcome sensual indulgence. Also God corrects us like any good father does with his son, so the smoking will likely bring unwanted punishment in the here and now, being as we won't be punished in the here after.

I spent 20 years as a qualified gossip-for-the-Lord, fully able to keep people up on the latest gossip about church members and no remorse at all. No remorse because it never dawned on me I was sinning!

in that context it means your offense got the puck, got to the other side of the rink, got one shot off, then lost the puck.
one ((offensive opportunity)) and done.
that's the basic principle of the phrase and it can be applied all kinds of places: no sustained offense. one chance and then a turnover.

in my book smoking,alcohol,and over drug use are all plain dumb to do,as to the question of one sin and your done,quite frankly we all sin at some point and in truth always will but our role for god and in respect to jesus is to strive to be righteous as we can and do for god as well,these sinful things people sell are still tools if used in a proper manner they can be used for a good purpose if not then its likely youll give in to your evil thoughts and use them wrong but any sin aside from abominations are forgiveable and what truely matters to god is whether or not you can accurately spread his word and if push comes to shove that you will follow god not habits I say habits because nothing in your life you start that you constantly turn to for pleasure or relief is impossible to quit, youve just fooled your mind into thinking its impossible those of you who call it addiction just have given up your will and decided to just keep to routine if you truely serve god then you will not let something so trivial and man made stop you from doing right for god the true answer to this question of is one sin enough to make one give up on life the answer is yes that is if you care nothing for god or yourself because its so much easier to give up and be foolish than to make a stand for god and be wise so please be wise for those that choose foolishness of whims it is only for a season and you have your reward and hell awaits you,if you choose to be righteous and at the least try to resist many man made sins whilst serving god faithfully then please continue and while you yet don't have the reward of heaven you still have gods blessings while you trod this earth so be grateful and prosperous
Of course smoking will send you to hell. Any sin that others do that "I don't do" - that is what will send people to hell...
One sin and your done? No! One sin and its affect separates us from God? - Yes! The question is: 'can continual sin (our continual NO to God) by our volitional right given us by God, take us from our guaranteed position of Salvation, by choosing to not be in Christ?'

When a person believes in the Lord Jesus, although he is still very weak and ignorant, God has placed him in a position of being reckoned as having completely died, resurrected, and ascended with the Lord. Those who are accepted in Christ are accepted just as Christ is; this is position.
However, the believers may not necessarily have the experience of this. Positionally speaking, a believer in the Lord possesses all the experiences of the Lord Jesus. Experientially, at the minimum, he is born again. This rebirth is not because he has already experienced the Lord Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension to a certain degree, but because he believes in the Lord Jesus. His position causes him to have the experience of being born again. Although in experience he still does not know the power of Christ's resurrection (Phil. 3:10), he has already been made alive, raised, and seated in the heavenlies together with Christ (Eph. 2:5-6).

My apologies to everyone on this thread for my unintended error. You are absolutely right that unknown sin is forgivable. I just didn't think about that as I wrote. In your case now that you know you were sinning you are not doing it anymore, which is what I was talking about.
Also I feel bad enough about the error without sarcasm.
