Only God determines the eternal destiny for all souls. Satan only offers the desires of this world for worship and doing his evil agendas. Satan did however temp Jesus offering him the kingdoms of the world if he worshiped him. Same as how entertainers and celebrities are offered fame and fortune.

Your soul is essentially your life. Do people sell out for Satan? Yes.
Have they literally sold their soul? Not in the sense you probably mean.
Jesus willingly gave His life to pay the sin debt of the world.

No,it is not that robotic.
Man is involved. He has a choice.

It is not really true..For someone to sell something to another they must first own what it is they are selling...
We do not own our souls.. God owns my soul.. So i cannot sell what i do not own..
But there is a strong bondage in believing that one can sell their own soul and satan takes advantage of this.. People who truly believe that can sell their soul to the devil and take part in some occultic ceremony and believe they have done so will often have absolutely no hope of ever being forgiven by God and being able to be saved ever again... So if a person truly believes they have sold their soul then they are in a mental Bondage that is impossible for them to break..Unless they discover that their contract is null and void because they cannot sell what they do not own....

Souls cannot be bought and sold.
However, if any man's soul isn't safe with God (faith in Christ), that sort of leaves the default option of the devil owning it, doesn't it?

But does God not own everything he created? And did not God create satan and all the fallen angels? Intersting things to think about ...
Yes they can even though Jesus can easily take it back if the person repents and turns away.. the thing about selling a soul is its a process... little by little the person has their faith crushed and is conditioned in a way that would make it hard if not seemingly impossible to return to the faith or in agreement with God, you might have heard about the rituals some do who are in the occult and different groups, that is what they are for pretty much in a nutshell.

You can't buy or sell your soul, but you can swear an oath or sign a contract that binds your actions. It's portrayed in media sometimes as a contract signing, I think this is the best metaphor and literal explanation of what it is. If they agree to be killed if they disobey the contract, or if this is an implied like when you join a gang or "the mafia", then it's very close to selling your soul by willfully giving your freedom and life away.
Absolutely and it isn't always "satan" that is buying it when it comes to souls it's a buyers market just like a pawn shop the seller gets screwed.
You want to see a great example of this?
Look at the younger generation that is to progressive,independent,cool, busy etc. To contribute positively to society,they are selling their souls to the society that they are screwing over,it's probably more of a symbiotic self destruction.
Like a cancer feeding off it's host,they are feeding off each other but just like true cancer that symbiotic relationship can last only until one wears the other out,which is what we are seeing now with the collapse of society as a whole.
I digress,the youngsters just may be selling their souls to each other for the sake of being the last to leave the party for fear of missing something.

No one has to sell their soul to the devil,for it to be the devil's possession,for everybody that does not belong to God belongs to the devil.

People on earth might receive a life sentence,but if you are not with God,you belong to the devil,and you get an eternal life sentence,and not only is the devil the warden,but he is also a prisoner,and doomed with all the rest of his prisoners,and the warden is worse than the prisoners,but he has the gall to enslave them and to imprison them.
But Jesus released us from the prison that the devil had us in,for if the devil had opened the house of his prisoners,he would let them see the truth,but he does not open the house of his prisoners,and tries to keep them in deception.
The truth of God is the only thing that can do a prison break,and bust us out of the devil's prison,and he does not have enough guards,and not strong enough,to stop God from breaking people out of prison.
Tonight there's going to be a jailbreak,someone confessed Christ,tonight there's going to be a jailbreak,and the devil lost another one.

well this "IS"said in the bible,"all who taketh the mark of the beast will serve the beast lest they die, and this scripture tells a little more: "A man cannot serve two masters lest he appease not either" basically when you have chosen whom your master is which by the way only 2 actual choices in retrospect are available,God or the devil,I say this because if you choose yourself as your master then you still serve the devil,then whom you serve is decided entirely by you and once you've "truely" chosen whom you serve then you are bound to it,and if you can't choose then the bible tells that this is your fate"if one be neither hot nor cold but luke warm then I shall spew them out of my mouth for they worketh iniquity" basically once again interpreted as that if you do only for yourself or take no mind to your soul,like for example so called atheists, then you still serve the devil and your fate is the same as those who serve the devil willing,so yes you can choose where your soul shall go,as to selling your soul nay you can speak the words to attempt to but it is meaningless for as it is stated in the bible"if one be in God's hand then who can pluck them from his hand" which also applies to one's soul for think of JOB the devil took much from JOB,his health,children,and yet the devil could not take neither his life nor soul for God told him he could not for God wouldn't allow him to hurt JOB's person,and the devil could do no more or no less than God allowed him to,for whom can contend with God? and whom ever posted"how can you sell that which you do not own is correct our souls our God's,not ours, as pertaining to ownership,no matter who trys what or who says what,(yes this includes alice cooper lol saw his contract on muppet show and it means nothing no matter how much you laugh lol)
No one ever said it was "robotic" nor people don't have a choice. All souls are judged by God and they are ether welcomed into Heaven or told depart from me.
