Cuz...folks don't recognize WHO is doing the work within them...

13for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

14Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
the only reason to do which is because you want to take credit yourself. otherwise they would recognize God as doing all the work.

which is why it makes for a SMH moment.

Don't stop at verse 3, you gotta read on!!! You are using God's word out of context to prove an incorrect point. Manipulating scripture, oops, you committed your 1st sin today.
Now let me take this small point. It is something that is sad, hurtful, miss-leading, odd, uncaring,
inappropriate, incorrect, miss-interpretation, miss-appropriation of meaning, discouraging, condemning,
dishonouring of the Lord and His ways, not recognising the value of scripture no matter how small.

A quote is given so that something of value is brought out. If quoting scripture became a moral stand,
who could actually stop reading, in case someone else decided you should not stop there.

And on me quoting scripture, which point am I making? Do I actually say, or do I just quote it?
So as a reader you read in what you want. If you want you can read the context further.

I thought it was an interesting contrast about how the apostles were being treated and how their
motives where pure and wholesome.

So I am then found guilty of a crime, and then condemned for sin.
I do not really need to say much more, because the response really says it all.

One trait I notice about a group of people, they feel they can say anything and imply what
the like, even when it is meaningless because for some reason it makes sense to them.
And I suppose it does. God bless you, I am not quite sure what you woke up from and what
you are intending to become, but this is not a good start.

James 2:14-20

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

1 John 2:3-4

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Hebrews 12:11 - Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Proverbs 12:1 - Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof [is] brutish.

2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Proverbs 15:32 - He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding

John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments.

revelation 3:55 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

rev 3 :12 / 15-17
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Matthew 7:21-23

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Proverbs 24:16-18

16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Thank you so much for posting this, Praise be to God...I have been convicted today for something i should of done, but instead i have to admit i behaved lukewarm...I have spoken with God over the matter as I know that the Holy Spirit brought to my mind that i did not produce fruit when the moment was right, this fruit being kind to the needy...Scales have been taken from my eyes today, and i thank God that His Son my Lord Jesus Christ is teaching me, and what you wrote here from the Scriptures, I truly believe God wanted me to see this, so although you have posted this for reasons to do with the conversation going on about Salvation, your post has also blessed me for a different reason...God is wonderful, all the glory to God...xox...God working through you, to me has made me a stronger sapling...:)

Yes, I love when people use and manipulate scripture to fit their own narrative!!
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
1 Thess 5:4-5

Do children of light look to condemn others or bring peace, love and understanding?

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Eph 4:15

speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord
Eph 5:19

Peterjens, you didn't just quote scriptures...you added this as commentary..

People love quoting the idea there is peace and safety, but the day of judgement
is going to come like a thief in the night.

Judgement day is only a thief in night for those who are NOT God's children.

Therefore your use of that verse to condemn eternal security of God's children is false.

God's children find peace and safety in God's loving arms. Why do you attack that security and call it an idol?
