I doubt it is because we inhale algae or moss particles. Other than eyes, is anything else in our bodies green?

Your gall bladder is green, bile is green. Infection can be green. Mucous can be green. This is why snot is green. Snot is mucous surrounding stuff we breathe in and getting it out of our bodies. When you wake up with eye crispies that are green, it is our bodies' way of excreting things from our eyes that would be bad for us. These are all the green things I can think of in our bodies. I am not a doctor, though. Just a wannabe.

Clear snot indicates an allergic reaction to something.

Ah, it's just science. Don't let a little biology scare you.

I've never looked at colour.

I just pick it, roll it and flick it

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose.

Well you can pick their nose but it would be a very strange thing to do

I became an aunt by marriage. (My side of the family wasn't quite up to having kids yet. His side had been having them for years.)

Now, tradition in my family is to have the older people try to gross out the younger ones however it works. BUT most of the time, you get a head start because you've been around the child since he/she was born. Examples:
-- "Got your nose" trick.
-- "Pull my finger" trick.
-- "I can take my thumb off" tricks.

All things easy to do to little kids. Unfortunately, the older they are the harder it gets. So, I joined his family when his brother's kids were @ 10 and 12. (The youngest was only one, so I still had time for the usual tricks.) Have you ever tried to gross out a middle grade child? They're the ones singing, "Great big gobs of greasy grim and gopher guts," so downright impossible to out gross them.

But what you wrote here was pretty much where I got them. I pantomimed that with great extravagance on the "roll it" part, and then pretended to flick it at them. (They almost lost it at the flick.)

I've been part of the family ever since. lol

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I've got 60+ years experience ad a patient. And I used to get sinus infections often as a kid. Doctors told me snot is supposed to be clear. If it is green, that's the body fighting off infection. Time to see the doctor. (At least it was for me, since every time I go an infection, it almost guaranteed I'd need tubes in my ears... again.)

Red means blood.

Any other color -- black, orange, etc. -- means you've been inhaling stuff you shouldn't have inhaled. (Dumb me was spray painting without a mask, but I've seen rust color come out from people working at large dumps with rusting cars in them.)

green is very 'bad', a sure sign of a bad infection, just like if a horse's snot turns yellow,
better do something fast...
