My background is in southern baptist (highly superstitious sect of it), and very, very close to word of faith/charismatic. People used to claim I was gonna be a prophet, God had great plans for me, I had tons of "spiritual experiences" and all of that. I was extremely defensive of free will once I realized there were some people who actually didn't believe in free will. I didn't even know what reformed theology was until I one day decided to actually read the bible for myself as a whole and not cherry picked verses and passages here and there, which is what most unreformed preachers do.
So ultimately, I came to an understanding of reformed theology before I even knew what theology, doctrine, the reformation, Calvinism, or other branches of reformed thought even were. That is why I am confident in reformed theology and doctrines. Not simply because I belong to that camp, but because the bible undoubtedly confirms it.
Also, it is the only branch of Christianity that, from my perspective, tries to take an objective view of scripture and come to a proper understanding of it, even if some of the truths being expressed are difficult to swallow. I fought hard against predestination and election before I had read the bible, but anyone who denies these teachings of scripture are not being honest with themselves, which was true for me for a long time.
It's the one theology that denies man and exalts God in comparison to all the rest. That is why I believe it.
As far as the thing between you and P4T, I hope you guys can come to an understanding. I think me and you have and are at peace with one another in spite of our differences. I have tried to stay out of y'all's way when it comes to the disagreements between the two of you. I do hope you guys can work it out though.
