Fortran was the first 3GL then COBOL then Basic

There is at least one Insurance company in Australia still using COBOL

They never let on - they show you all their hi tech screens

in the old days their operators would put on a telephone headset and read the screen and type in figures

now VBA applications "screenscrape" the screen and "sendkeys" for input

but at the back it is still CICS COBOL from the 1980s running on DB2 i think

they had a 25 Million Dollar project a few years ago to change the number of fields for their individuals super funds from 11 characters to 13

The mother of COBOL was also a USN Admiral and coined the term to "DEBUG"

I’ll have a chicken fillet with baked potato, butter on the side, bread and butter, and a salad.

Twice before we’ve had a conversation along these lines, if I’m not mistaken. You say you’ve never heard of potatoes AND bread being served at the same meal. I respond by saying that most restaurants I’ve been in DO have both.

I’ll take real silverware, if you don’t mind. I don’t like plastic sporks.
