Where in Scripture did God do away with the Health/Food Laws?

If you can find it, please document it.

Thanks!

Acts 11:9
But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

When Lord Jesus took over our priesthood in heaven, He did away with Levitical priesthood ordinances.

The following verse has nothing to do with food.

Acts 11:9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

When Lord Jesus took over our priesthood in heaven, He did away with Levitical priesthood ordinances, such as the blood ordinances.

Pay close attention to what is talked about here. It has nothing to do with eating any food, for God is giving Peter a lesson, and He will not allow Peter to even touch those things that are on the sheet. God is using this as an analogy, to show that the different peoples, called the uncircumcision, will be accepted through salvation by Jesus the Christ.

1 And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.
3 So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, describing the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren. 4 And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders; and they reported all things that God had done with them. 5 But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”
The Jerusalem Council

6 Now the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter. 7 And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 9 and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ[a] we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”
12 Then all the multitude kept silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them among the Gentiles. 13 And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, “Men and brethren, listen to me: 14 Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. 15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:
16 ‘After this I will return
And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down;
I will rebuild its ruins,
And I will set it up;
17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name,
Says the Lord who does all these things.’[b]

18 “Known to God from eternity are all His works.[c] 19 Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20 but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality,[d] from things strangled, and from blood. 21 For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”

22 Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas,[e] and Silas, leading men among the brethren.
23 They wrote this letter by them:
The apostles, the elders, and the brethren,
To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia:
Greetings.
24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law”[f]—to whom we gave no such commandment— 25 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.[g] If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.
Farewell. Acts 15:1-29

The Council of Jerusalem settled the matter of the law of Moses as being binding on Christian believers.
None of this abrogated common sense!

Even today - despite pork being on the menu for believers - I would not recommend eating measly pork!
If you do nothing will change between you and God but you might become significantly ill!

I will say this:
If this thread is designed to convince believers that they are obligated to keep the dietary laws - or any other laws - for the sake of righteousness it will fail!

So, if this is your motive at least have the courtesy to admit it!

I will try again to show you.

Acts 11:[SUP]
7 [/SUP]And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

[SUP]9 [/SUP]But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

If God tells you to eat something, why would you refuse? If God tells you to eat 3 times and you still won't listen, why would He tell you a 4th time?

Was God testing Peter? Setting a trap? No.

James 1:13
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man

And here is Paul taking Peter to task for hypocrisy with respect to diet and eating:

11 Now when Peter[a] had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 12 for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. Gal 2:11-13

Peter allowed himself to be intimidated by the Judaizers and went back to observing the dietary laws to please the Judaizers.
Paul calls him and all the Jews who followed his lead as hypocrites!
Why?
Because the dietary laws (and the rest of the law of Moses) are not binding!

That's not what it says. It says he withdrew from their company, not stopped eating whatever they were eating.

The Jews / Israelites of that time were set apart from gentiles and believed they were superior and clean. Gentiles were 2nd class outsiders.

If that were the case there was no need to mention eating!
Just simply saying that he refused to associate with them would have been sufficient!

Maybe they were in a tavern?

And if eating pork or shellfish was the problem, the scripture would say "he stopped eating the uncommon food" or something. Yet it doesn't. Let's go from actual scripture:

"but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself"

From food? Doesn't make sense to me. From the company of gentiles? Makes sense to me.

Nobody suggests he stopped eating... for goodness sake!
Context suggests he stopped eating what the Gentiles were eating and went back to observing the dietary regulations!
Furthermore, eating with someone is associating with them, and, refusing to eat with them is refusing to associate with them!
Given the rules of hospitality in those times the two were indivisible...

Context suggests he stopped eating what the Gentiles were eating and went back to observing the dietary regulations!

Then if he got rebuked for it, those animals are now fine to eat and my original posts are correct.

The scripture doesn't say what they were eating but it does say he was keeping company with gentiles, and withdrew himself.

Why are you arguing the toss with me?
That was my point - there are no dietary restrictions, and Paul rebuked Peter for being a hypocrite regarding observing dietary laws.

How can you say that Scripture does not say that they were eating vs 12 clearly indicates eating was involved!
In addition, hospitality conventions of the time meant that associating with someone and eating with them were indivisible!

Your point was that Paul rebuked Peter for observing dietary laws.

My point is that the scripture does not say this but says that Peter separated himself from gentiles when he was afraid of being seen with them.

We both agree, it seems, about the dietary laws being obsolete. Though with the exception I will add regarding blood.

Acts 15:20
But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

Acts 15:29
That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Well, I am glad we can agree on something!

I would suggest that the fact that Paul mentions the word "eating" cannot be ignored!
In those days associating with someone meant you ate with them.

If Peter associated with the Judaizers then it meant he ate with them.
And if he ate with them it meant he adhered to their dietary rules, otherwise they would NOT eat with him!

Prior to that he WAS eating (and therefore associating) with Gentile believers.

mark 7:14-19 "And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: 15There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. 16If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
17
And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. 18And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; 19Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?"

im not sure that this " does away with health/food laws" it uis certainly a change from the mosaic Law though as many foods made a person ceremonially unclean. the confusion i would think comes from the different translations and additions like this in niv

mark 7:19 "For it doesn't go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)

as far as the Health and food laws in the mosaic Law, while they may not rule over us, they are all correct and should be followed and give promises of good health and things such as that. People dont understand the law is why so many try to omit the entire law of God and make it void and useless. after all the scientific studies and things weve done on health and food....its quite astounding How Gods Word conderning those things still hold very true as far as good healthy foods, and Health hygein type things.

I believe when People begin actually studying the Law they would find just how truly valuable it is and how many blessings it holds even to those today. that being said, no one can be saved through the Mosaic Law, because were in Christ for salvation, i would say there would be alot of healthier people and more blessed people if we learned Gods ways and walked in them/ of course it is 100 percent vital that we go first through the Gospel so we understand things like mercy rather than Judgement, forgiveness rather than condemnation, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, rather than animal sacrifice and so man other things. but the Law is very useful and always holds true after the science is worked out.

turns Out Gods Ways are just plain right......

True, everything God says is righteous, all His ways are perfect. It's better to have salvation from God than trying to keep all those commandments, even though being kept perfectly leads to life but only through God's grace do we have eternal life. The 2 commandments from Christ are hard enough to follow for many people.

yeah you are correct pauls issue with peter was His prejudice showing through, and that while he wasnt living as a jew, but a christian, he was looking down on the gentiles it seems because of peer pressure from other jews.

i find this interesting....
Acts 15:29
That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. <<< this is part ofthe apostolic letter sent to the gentiles ......

and this is paul teaching regarding faith....

romans 14 :13-23 "Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. 14I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

15But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. 16Let not then your good be evil spoken of:17For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

18For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.19Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. 20For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

21It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thingwhereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. 22Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. 23And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin."

this really is the same James teaches regarding sin, whoever Knows the right and doesnt do it, to him it is sin."

both highlight the personal nature between Christ, the believer and God the Father and the measure of our conscience according to our own level of Knowledge and conviction. Our faith. Paul is saying " Hey, i believe everything is clean to eat, but if im with a brother, and He is convicted that eating certain meat is evil.....i will not eat the meat because it will become a stumbling Block to Him"

those types of things can really become a divide in churches, and between brethren. we all have convictions based on what we have learned in life, so if someone is convinced eating pork is an offense to God, they then should abstain, at the same time, they shouldnt judge another person who is convinced it is clean before God, dedicated in thanksgiving. as earlier in romans 14 says. these types of trivial things, really cause alot of judgement and condemnation and truly become stumbling blocks for others and ourselves because humans always somewhere in us think on some level were right and the person disagreeing is wrong.

Truly, while the mosaic Law is focused more on the material things like foods, washings, ceremonies ect. The Gospel is about How we respond to Jesus and the Gospel evidenced in How we treat other people, especially those with greater needs than our own, and other believers. some things are important to have the same understanding on, other things are between a believer, Christ Jesus, and God the Father who is within us knows our conscience and our deeds. Faith changes alot when it comes to details and letters of ordinance, and makes it impossible for one person to judge another our judge is already with us and in us. faith seeks the good of thy brother, and rejoices in peace and goodness.

yeah Loving God with all our Heart, kind of entails our Whole lives in its self, and we cant Love God right unless we Love each other right. Thats really what the gospel is " How to Love thy fellow man"

see one in need? help him if you are able. someone insults you, bles them in return. someone offends you, forgive them. be faithful to your spouse dont lust after others wives. its really all a manual on How to Love Gods way. even the ten commandments

its not Love to cheat on a spouse, not love to lie to someone, not love to bear false witness, not Love to fail to honor our parents, certainly not Love to God, to have a different God...ect. Gods ways are what Love is. thise 2 commandments are a summary of all of them.

romans 13:8-10 "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."

in other words Love one another doesnt replace Gods Laws, its what were doing when we Keep Gods Laws, were then Loving Gods Way, truly

1 john 5:2-3 "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

the commandments arent void or anything, they are what true Love is

1 john 3:18 "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth

acts 15, 19-20
Therefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them, who from among the Gentiles are turned to God: 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from defilements of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

Romans 14, 1-4
Receive him that is weak in the faith, but not for passing judgment. 2 For one believes that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eats herbs. 3 Let not him that eats despise him that eats not; and let not him who eats not judge him that eats: for God has received him. 4 Who are you that judge another man's servant? to his own master he stands or falls. Yea, he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand.

1. Corinthians 8, 1-13
Now concerning things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 2 And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if any man loves God, the same is known by him. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one. 5 For though there be those called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 7 But there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience about the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. 8 But food commends us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. 9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumbling block to them that are weak. 10 For if any man sees you who have knowledge eating in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be encouraged to eat those things which are offered to idols; 11 And through your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when you sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat while the world stands, lest I make my brother to stumble.

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel out of the way,nailing them to His cross,for they were contrary to us,which they had no bearing on spiritual salvation,but was temporary until Christ came,and then they were done away with,so let no person judge you in those things,and give heed to them that you have to keep them,for the body is of Christ,the Holy Spirit given us access.

Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Eph 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Since they could not have the Spirit in the Old Testament,they could not keep the laws of love perfectly,so God had them do physical ordinances,and physical laws,to be right with Him until Christ came,and under the New Testament we can have the Spirit,so the physical ordinances do not apply for they have nothing to do with spiritual salvation.

The laws of love were in the Old Testament,the ten commandments,love God,and love people,and any law that had to do with love,and morality,which concerning those laws Paul said they were spiritual,holy,just,and good,and we do not void out those laws through faith,but we establish the law.

The 2 greatest commandments are love God,and love people,and on those 2 laws hang all the prophets,and law.

Jesus said a new commandment I give you that you love one another as I have loved you,for we can have the Spirit in the New Testament,and can love people perfectly.

Love works no ill towards their neighbor;therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

The Old Testament with the physical ordinances,and laws,were given to the Jews,not the Gentiles,but creation testifies that there is a God,and of His attributes,which one of them is love,for He provided food,and the means to make clothing,and shelter,the universal law throughout the history of mankind that covers the 2 greatest laws,love God,and love people,for that is what it is all about at all times.

It is about the 2 greatest laws,love God,and love people,and Jesus broke the wall of partition between the Jews,and Gentiles,by abolishing in His flesh the enmity,the law of commandments contained in ordinances,to make of the Jews,and Gentiles,one new man,that abide by love God,and love people,and the physcial ordinances,and physical laws,have no place concerning spiritual salvation.

Creation testifies there is a God,and He is love,so we should love God,and love people,is the universal law for all people,so the world has no excuse,but the Bible says the Jews had the advantage over the Gentiles,for the words of God were given to them.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

In the New Testament all meat is good,and nothing to be refused,for it is spiritual in the New Testament,so it is clean if it is received with thanksgiving,for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer,where in the Old Testament it was not spiritual,although they had salvation if they followed the Old Testament covenant,so meats had a separation between clean and unclean,where that does not apply under a spiritual covenant.

In the New Testament let no persn judge you,and say to keep the clean and unclean meats law,for every creature is good,and nothing to be refused.

In the latter times they will command to abstain from meats,and to forbid to marry,but this is the new age movement,and their interpretation of the Bible based on nature worship,and spiritual evolution through the power of nature,that does not claim Jesus as Lord and Savior,but as a good teacher in spiritual enlightenment,and an acended master,and avatar,which they will command to abstain from eating meat,for they are nature worshippers,and forbid to marry for population reduction.

And we see how being a vegetarian,and homosexuality,is more popular than what it has been in the past,and one day it will be a universal law,no eating meat,and no marriage between a man and a woman,and the Bible says the man of sin will have no desire of women,which does not mean he will be homosexual,but that is not his goal to get married,but rule the world,and he abides by the universal law,a man and a woman cannot get married.
