The word " convict/reprove/convince/expose" in question has many meanings attached to it as well.
It is only used 1 time in KJV as "convict"....it is used more often with the word "to reprove/rebuke/convince"...the word needs to be looked at in the "context" that it is used...
It is a revealing of things.....to the world the Holy Spirit reveals/convinces/expose their sin of unbelief in Jesus..
To the believer He reveals/convinces/expose that they are the righteousness of Christ because He went to the Father to stand as an Advocate.
Pay attention to the world ( unbelievers ) and "you" ( believers - remember Jesus was talking to His disciples at the time. )
Remember to always look at who is being spoken to when looking at scripture.
John 16:8-10 (NASB)

Here is another take on does the Holy Spirit convict/convince/expose...if so...how and when and what is being exposed or what is being "revealed"?
Does He "reveal" to the world things that are different what He reveals to the believer that is in Christ?

The Holy spirit does more than this
He also convicts people of their sins, brings about godly sorrow unto repentance and helps them overcome their sin by showing them a better way through the Holy spirit.
Why do you fight against the fact that the Holy spirit convicts people of sin and it's a part of His Chastenment of His kids?

All I am doing is asking for scripture that says the Holy Spirit convicts "believers" of sin. There aren't any. It's a church tradition.
I don't fight against the fact that they Holy Spirit convicts the 'world" of sin. Jesus said so Himself that it was His job to do that - because they don't believe in Him.
I could say that Daffy Duck and Donald Duck are the 2 witnesses in the book of Revelation but you would think someone would ask for scriptures to prove it. ( I would hope so anyways )

I am not sure if you are doing it on purpose or not that is the puzzle. God's answer to your question is really very simple. If someone is a "Believer" they are not the one knowingly sinning against God. Can a believer fall into temptation and sin? Yes. When they do this are they following God? No! Can they repent, confess and forsake their sins and return to God? Absolutely! If they continue in sin are they a Believer or Unbeliever? Unbeliever! The "Unbeliever" is the one that is knowingly sinning and as such not believing God's Word while in this state they are "of the World" and they Holy Spirit will convict the sinner of sin because God is not willing that anyone should perish and that all should come to repentance and be saved.
"And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I know what you mean by "man-made traditions" - it's because I don't say that Christians are sinning and dis-obeying God like you say they are because the don't observe the Sabbath as in the4 Old Testament and we say that Christ Himself is our true Sabbath rest.

For I am a man of unclean lips . . . and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty” (Isaiah 6:5).

We are convicted when we become mindful of how much our sin dishonors God. When David was convicted by the Holy Spirit, he cried out, “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight” (Psalm 51:4). David saw his sin primarily as an affront to a holy God.
We are convicted when we become intensely aware of the wrath it exposes to our souls (Romans 1:18; Romans 2:5). When the Philippian jailer fell at the apostles’ feet and cried, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” he was under conviction (Acts 16:30). He was certain that, without a Savior, he would die.
When the Holy Spirit convicts people of their sin, He represents the righteous judgment of God (Hebrews 4:12). There is no appeal of this verdict. The convicting power of the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to our sin and opens our hearts to receive His grace (Ephesians 2:8).
We praise the Lord for the conviction of sin. Without it, there could be no salvation. No one is saved apart from the Spirit’s convicting and regenerating work in the heart. The Bible teaches that all people are by nature rebels against God and hostile to Jesus Christ. They are “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1). Jesus said, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him” (John 6:44). Part of that “draw” to Jesus is the conviction of sin.
