I'm a Joel fan, but the site in general is NOT... notice how I used caps. Same goes for Joyce Meyer.

Joel Osteen is reported to be worth 40 million dollars, which the Bible says if any person teaches that godliness is gain(the prosperity Gospel, money, and material things),from such withdraw yourself, having food, and clothing,be content.

For the love of money is the root of all evil, for it violates the 2 greatests laws, love God,and love people, for it neglects the poor and needy, and love of people is the fulfilling of the law.

I do not think I will support Joel Osteen.

I suppose a mega church is neither good nor bad. If it is walking with the Lord, that is good. If it has its own agenda, as many churches do, that is bad.

Joel Osteen is a Christ-denying sell-out,
and his followers are gullible lemmings.
Same goes for the rest of 'em.
Pretty much just a bunch of charismatic frauds.

I am in total agreement. God put these people where they are (and keeps them there) for a reason.

Kind of like asking how Americans feel about the New England Patriots.
1. Patriot fans will love them without question.
2. Most other football fans can talk to you for an hour on how they feel about them.
3. Those not into football ignore them.

:)

kind of silly just the term "mega church" a church is only a church if it is treated as God's house,as in no cursing,if you give offering to God you do it willingly, also you do not focus your efforts on vain things while in God's house, and any preaching or praising is to be done honestly and clearly, and most importantly for God,and also the church is actually not the buildings but rather the people that make up the congregation,so one must not forget that you have a job to do in church too, because if you never help with offering by giving any money to the church, the church may not be able to stay open, and also outside the church you have a job for God too,to try to help others come to God while you are in the world, whether at your job or a foot ball game, one must not think that the pastors, deacons, and choir, are not the only workers for God,if you don't do anything for God then all you are doing each time you walk into a church,is basically lieing to God,for you cannot say to God "well I go to church God,I know I shall receive heaven" nope, because "faith without works is dead faith" The purpose of what the pastor preaches(if they truly preach for God)is for you to listen and take the message out into this world,if you cannot even find time for that then God has no use of you,for as it is written"tis better to be hot or cold for the lord, not luke warm, for God will spew them out of his mouth"

I just realized something. My old church is considered a megachurch. Pretty funny, since I don't think it could fit more than 1000 people in any given service, and some of those folks would be standing in the corners feeling quite claustrophobic.

Just so people get this, most megachurches don't have televangelists as pastors.

True, just like he put the Pharaoh and Herod there for a reason.

Does Joel teach godliness is gain? I thought he was more of an "I'm OK and you're OK" kind of preacher.

BTW, how much are you worth? And should I be rebuking you, if you're richer than I am? (And, it is quite likely you are.)

When did Christianity mean being jealous of rich people?

Could be. We don't know. But we do know all leaders are where they are because God somehow wants it.

I'm not hard-core for or against mega-churches. I'm sure some are better than others.

I stopped listening to Joel Osteen a long time ago, and it had nothing to do with money. (Wasn't aware until now he's worth so much. 40 million? Really???) I admit for a while I enjoyed his messages; he's a talented speaker. But I started noticing every message (at least the ones i heard) were pretty much all the same. And I couldn't recall having heard about Hell, or sin, or that Jesus is the only way. They were all "feel good" sermons. Playing it safe. People need more than that. I NEED more than that.

It's possible he speaks on those things. I just never heard it.

Other mega-churches I'm not familiar with. I can't think of any at the moment.

I doubt he does, since he openly states he teaches what he feels God told him to focus upon. And I think he was exactly what a lot of people needed for a preacher..... and then, like you, they moved on to where they were fed more fully. I know that my own needs seem to surpass what he preaches on......... so I go elsewhere.

Get one of those cassette player things for you walking back and fore to church that have headphones... Walkmans! Remembered the name. Record a tape that says
"LEFT RIGHT LEFT.......LEFT.......LEFT......"
(Often thought people wearing headphones walking along could be listening to such things to help them walk.... New ones seem very small these days so must have tiny cassettes in them!)

I might be misinformed but my wife said he didn't take a salary from the church anymore. He has written a lot of books so I know that accounts for some of his wealth. I've been to his church a few times with my wife and I was honestly a little judgmental because of my general perception of millionaire preachers. But I do enjoy his message. I enjoy the praise and worship I never knew as a catholic. I know you have your crooked mega church leaders but I guess that's like grouping every catholic priest as a pedo. I guess you can't really judge until you hear them out.

There was a visiting pastor from Dallas that had a mega church there. I did not care for him much as he came off as wanting to be a comedian and put on a show where I felt void of a message of any kind. I suppose its case by case. The good ones have a lot of money, yes but they do a lot for the community. I'm kind of split on it but there are some that donate a lot.
