Hey Everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked before, and I know it applies to everyone on the forum, but as many people know, I have a tendency to lurk around the Singles Forum (muh ha ha ha) because that's the forum I identify with the most in my present situation.

So, I'd like to take the chance to ask everyone how you came up with your online name and what does it mean or represent?

On a serious note, my online name holds a lot of meaning for me because I am adopted and was found in a cardboard box in front of a theater in Seoul, South Korea, when I was about 3 days old. Someone found me and took me to the police station, and from there I was taken to an orphanage. I spent about 4 months in a foster home and then came home to my God-given Mom and Dad (the very best I could have ever had) when I was 6 months old. (Someone actually asked me once if I made this all up--sorry, I'm not a very good fictional story teller--I prefer real-life.)

I have often said that if God gave me a choice of who my parents would be--let's say, Donald Trump, Bill Gates, or a couple living in a $5000 trailer in a tiny town located in the midwestern United States... Let's just say I would have made the wrong choice. (I can hear it now: "Mods!! Seoulsearch is confessing to be a materialistic heathen!")

"Seoulsearch" represents my history, my struggle to fit in and the fight to figure out who I am and was meant to be, as well as my personal commitment to hopefully help others discover who they really are along the wayl. One of the most powerful weapons we have against the devil is knowing who we truly are in Christ. I admit that I'm still making the journey, but I"m trying to be more teachable than what I may have been in the past (if my friends, family, and teachers were to suggest an online name for me, their choices would probably be things like, "Stubborn" and "Impossible.") :D

I've tried other variations... HeartAndSeoul, Seoulful, SeoulMate.... but I always seem to keep coming back to Seoulsearch--the shoe (sneakers are my shoes of preference, by the way) just seems to fit.

How about all of you? What gave you the idea for your nicknames here?

(Matthew, I am expecting a rousing, keeps-me-on-the-edge-of-my-seat story as to how you picked the online name, "Matthew." I'm sure you have a most compelling story. I'm popping the popcorn right now in anticipation. :p)

For those of you who don't know, Matthew and I have a long and somewhat unfortunate history of picking on each other in the forums and I am simply trying to even up a very long-overdue scorecard!!! :p

As for everyone else, it doesn't matter how simply or elaborate your names may be or whether your story is short or long, serious or silly--give us the privilege of hearing a little more about you and how your name represents your unique, God-given identity! :)

I totally love your user name Kim!

Mine is obvious though most people dont figure out the OT bit.
Im a loudly proud New Zealander and if most people would care to type in "steriotypical New Zealand icons" into Google they would find an itty bitty cute and fluffy nocturnal (nearly extinct) kiwi bird :D Both men and women here in New Zealand proudly refer to themselves as kiwi.
The OT stands for Occupational Therapist. Im not one yet but in 8 months will be a fully graduated registered working therapist. Im not going to explain what an OT is (you can do that yourself), but like SeoulSearch it is a part of my identity, having been called into this career from my early teens by God. In a nutshell, it is my ministry and lifes work (other than being a wife and mom) in honour of the one who saved me and for that reason I hold it very close to my heart.

Seoul, I've never told you this, but you post some rather interesting threads. Even with a thread as common as this one, you still somehow manage to make it interesting.

In High School, my brother was a track star. As per usual in sports, everyone referred to him by his last name, except they cut it short. So instead of our full last name, people just called him Rush(beginning part of our last name). When I entered high school his junior year and joined track, people couldn't call me "Rush" too, because that would get confusing. So I ended up being called Little Rush, which was eventually shortened to Lil Rush.

No one really calls me lil'Rush anymore, but sometimes when my brother's track friends visit, once every blue moon, they call me lil'Rush.

Hey Lil Rush,

Thanks for the comment about my threads :), although I obviously need to do a bit more proof-reading and editing before I click "Post" (if it's any excuse, I had just gotten home from a long day of three flights before I wrote this thread.) I enjoy trying to get group discussions going and asking questions from an angle that some people may have not considered before (my whole life is pretty much an unknown angle ;)).

Very cute story about your nickname, by the way. I always wanted an older brother... someone to look out for me if anyone gave me trouble... that and I always figured he'd have cute friends he'd bring to the house for me to try tot talk to, but hey... no such luck!

Melody, thank you for explaining the origin of "Kiwi" and New Zealanders... (uh oh, hopefully, saying "New Zealanders" isn't offensive... sorry). I had no idea that a Kiwi was a reference to a bird--being my obviously very culturally relevant self (ha ha ha), I, of course, always figured it was a reference to the fruit... I realize I'm not exactly blasting away the stereotype that Americans can be a little out-of-the-know when it comes to other countries, so thank you for helping me be slightly less ignorant! :D (I need LOTS of help, trust me.)

If it's any consolation, I just got back from visiting MusicalMe in Texas and finally understand a glimpse of "Texan Pride." They have Texas-shaped EVERYTHING in that state--crackers, tortilla chips, cookie cutters, muffin tins, cake pans, and swimming pools. Surely Texas-shaped sushi rolls can't be far behind... and I also found out why Southern fried chicken is so famous (I could have downed an entire bird by myself.)

MusicalMe told me that at one point, Texas used to be a separate nation... Here's to traveling overseas and learning about new cultures! :p

Well,my name is pretty self explanitory.I used to play music for a part-time job for drunk folk that would lose interest after 15 minutes-that's the average attention span of a drunk person in a bar.we used to play sstandard classic rock tunes for four hours a night twice every weekend.(friday n saturday nights) One day I just started shreddin blues penatonic scales during our mid show break.people started to pay attention for longer than 15 minutes.so I ended up in a country blues band not long after that, and people started to call me blue,or Billyblue. And so the name kinda stuck, and now that I have given my life to Christ I am no longer pkayin in bars. Now I play for the glory of God in a christian outreach band.and so I gave myself the name godsbluesman, droppin the Bill part to signify dying to my flesh and being reborn in Christ......not an elaborate story, but one of salvation, nonetheless.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses! My family enjoys teasing and loves humor no matter how corny that may be. My name is evidence of this. When I was about two my grandpa nicknamed me mulehide and it stuck. My name is Jennifer. Jennie is the name of a mule, and fur is hide. Thus Jennie-fur equals mulehide.

Maybe my name isn't really Matthew.........I just said that so all the crazies, namely YOU, wouldn't know my real identity, you've proven your willingness to travel across state lines to track down an unsuspecting member of the CC community under the guise of a 'friendly visit' :D I felt the need to protect myself. :p

Now back to reality, I used my name because nothing else occured to me when I was signing up and I wasn't sure I'd be staying long, and I also didn't know it was almost impossible to change a screenname once it's chosen without apparently causing a lot of grief, so Matthew I am, some perfectly kind and innocent guy that seems to be your victim of choice.......what did I ever do to you???.......MEANIE!!!!

Dread Zeppelin is a play on words from the band Led Zeppelin, which was my favorite band at the time. When I was going through a hard time I would pop in classic rock and jam out to the psychodelic tunes. Honestly this is how I first developed my identity and hung out with people who liked similar music...of course when I re-accepted Christ everything changed. Plus Dread Bowie doesn't have the same ring.

Oh! I knew it! I knew it! I thought your name was referring to Led Zep :) Theyre one of my favorite bands. I think my favorite song by them is Fool in the Rain. Its a shame John Bohnam had to die. He was a great drummer (I play drums).

I'll have to post about my name later...

Someone I truly loved once told me that if I had to be an animal, I would be a horse. Quite puzzled I demanded an explanation and she said because horses are the most noble animals. That has stuck in my mind ever since though I still don't understand it fully.

My name is the common greek word for messenger, άγγελος. I picked this because I want to be a messenger of the good news of Jesus Christ

Mines pretty obvious I think. I love the book of Romans. Especially chapter 12. So I decided to make my name Romans1212 standing for this verse "be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" romans 12:12 :)

What did you ever do to me??? Gee.... *reading pages and pages of threads and posts in which Matthew blatantly makes fun of poor, defenseless Seoulsearch* Kind and innocent? In what alternative reality would that be???!! ;)

I still think you need to change your name to Mattadamian Nut, but hey. :D

Well if you can convince the mods to change it then I could live with that, at least I'd have a story to tell. :)
