I don't think "sober minded" has anything to do with our state of inebriation... it means to be serious about what you are doing... don't be an air-head...
exactly.....right minded....

Jesus was baptized one time.
By John the Baptist in the River Jordan when He was about 30 years old.
When Jesus was a baby, He was presented at the temple, to the LORD. (God Father).
According to the Law of Moses.
Jesus was the first born.
Numbers 3:13
It's what we would call today, dedicating the baby to God.
john 3-5
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God
if you are not baptized in water....
can you not make it into the kingdom of God?
Jesus said "born of water and the Spirit" not born of baptism and the Spirit. In John 4:10,14; 7:37-39, Jesus talks about "living water" and connects it with eternal life.john 3-5

John the Baptist is recorded in every gospel affirming that One will come after him Who is greater than he is, baptizing with the Holy Spirit. Two gospels also add "and with fire." This is the required baptism that leads to eternal life: being born again of the Spirit of GodJesus said "born of water and the Spirit" not born of baptism and the Spirit. We are born of water when we are 1st born as we live in water before that..just sayin.
The modern church imputes far too much value to water baptism. The Jewish believers had many baptisms that were for ritual cleansing. Remember that Judaism taught covering for sin and washing of sin but never had complete remission for sin.are there any verses that say babies are not to be baptized ? Surely Jesus did not teach that babies should not be baptized or did He?

I was presented with a question that I'd never thought of before.
My Brother, a former Catholic (as am I) has been attending a non-denominational Church.
He decided, a few months ago, to switch and go to a Nazarene Church; which I happen to like.
The pastor there told my Brother, Frank, that he should be baptized again if he wanted to join the "community".
1. He was already baptized as a baby in the Catholic Church.
2. Is that not valid for a Protestant Church?
3 Why would he have to get baptized again?
My personal feeling is that baptism counts whenever a person is baptized.
Jesus' command in Mathew 28:19 is being followed even though a person is an infant.
Any thoughts?
I disagree with your premise... to be a Jew REQUIRED the physical act of circumcision. If it was not required, then why do it at all?
A Jewish man could stand and say all day long "I am a true Jew, because I follow God".... but if he had refused circumcision, he would NOT have been a Jew. It was HIS part of accepting the covenant.
I think one baptism is enough. Two is okay.I was presented with a question that I'd never thought of before.

If you were fully conscious of what you were doing when you got baptized then maybe it is not necessary to be re-baptized.

Baptism is a birth... how "perfect" does a baby have to be, in order to be born?
How "perfect" do we have to be, to be born again?
How "well" do we have to be, before we can get into the hospital?
I don't know your youth pastor, but his insistence on your perfection before he would "allow" you to be baptized is the epitome of "religion" over God. He should be ashamed, and with that attitude and belief system, should NOT be teaching anyone, much less young people...
In Jeremiah 2:13, we read that God Himself is called the "fountain of living water." For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, And hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water. In Isaiah 12:3 we read, "With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation."John 3 is not speaking of baptism, It is talking about being born of the spirit (Spiritual water) vs being born of the flesh (physical water)

*It's interesting that in John 4:10, Jesus mentions "living water" and in John 4:14, Jesus mentions "fountain of water" springing up into everlasting life.![]()
Well...it's completely fine to disagree!
Just understand that it's not my own premise you are disagreeing with - Paul is the one who said it.![]()
But Paul was talking about spiritual things, comparing the physical circumcision of the Jew to our "spiritual circumcision" as Christians.. he was saying that just being circumcised qualified you to be "Jewish".... but that now, it takes a spiritual circumcision.... a marking of our hearts to be considered a "newJew", or Christian. Just a physical act won't cut it.... that is also a very bad pun....
Paul was a Pharisee... he would have NEVER said that circumcision for Jews was only a mental/spiritual state of being....
