That is sad. Why did he believe in the first place? Was it a religious conviction, or something he came to after having personal empirical encounters with the living Lord?

He never had true faith, If he did, as John said, he never would have left. (I would also wonder if he really believes there is no god. or just out of anger, is angry at God and just saying that, or if he really means it. Which would make him an antichrist in Johns view)

I do not think it matter how long a person is in church, It does not mean they were ever saved.

The writer is explaining in the same verse that there that there are those that shrink back to destruction.
Plain & literal.
Sinners can't shrink back, so it's not talking about them.
If this wasn't true, the author would have reworded the verse.

And he said those who shrink back do not have faith God will preserve their soul, which in my view is why they shrink back. they never had faith to begin with,
they just played church! which never saved anyone

Oh then there is this beauty below....telling a member his Nephew was never really saved and implied he is an antichrist and gonna burn in hell....Yet this one claims he came from legalism and it is never his place to judge or condemn anyone's salvation, because it is known by God and God alone....but he then scolds us and cuts us down as fruit inspectors when we suggest people must bear fruit to have evidence of being saved. He then says bearing fruit is not direct evidence for being saved...and then he calls in for "air support" from his boyz and they fly over and tell us how dead trees may never bear fruit but it does not mean they were not ever saved, cuz an apple tree is still a apple tree....whether or not it eve bears apples or not...
then when you tell him facts he gets frustrated and starts typing in larger font and different colors to prove his points that you are wrong and he is right...
I do not see anyone discussing scripture in the above quote, I see someone making an hard opinion base don religion....and that is why Mr. EG is a hypocrite...

meggido has has done nothing but attack EG all day,
stephen asked EG questions, And EG answered all of them, knowing from past interaction with Stephen he would try to do xactly what he ended up doing,
yet when EG asked Stephen a question (can someone who has no faith God will preserve their soul be saved) Stephen still has yet to answer him (again, par for the course with past interactions, not only with myself but others) he is still yet to answer it, but instead has gone off scripture and shared his opinion which can not be proven with scripture (i.e. Hebrews is written only to saved people, which is an opinion, not fact)

Mr meggido here has also just destroyed any credibility as a person of God trying to discuss the word, and judging someone as an attackerm while he himself attacks,

Our Young people today are under constant assault and attack every day....Was he hurt or walk through an especially difficult trial?
We had a Pastor who lost his wife and 3 young kids in a car accident leave the faith....we worked night and day to win him back and he is still living like hell and blaming God for their deaths...
This is gonna leave grill marks on some of the other posters and their OSAS faith, but I am going to say it....they can get away with acting the way they do and saying the things they say because they have never, ever really had their faith tested....they say they have but really, those that claim they are OSAS almost all also believe they have no personal saving faith, it is all Jesus personal faith that saves them, this is why they cannot walk away from it....it is also why God never places much on them in terms of trials, refinements and hardships and that is because they miss something very powerful...without personal faith it is impossible to please or be rewarded by God...this includes saving faith...yet they do not see it that way....
I see many here proclaim they have faith in Jesus and God....how many here know that Jesus and God have faith in them!?!?
That is the whole point of the story of Job and it seems everybody misses it....God had faith in Job...

So what.....Judas followed JESUS for over 3 years, made the bible as a disciple/apostle yet was a SON of Perdition and devil from the beginning.....he never was saved.....the same can be said of anyone who makes a claim of the following the LORD....
Jesus was clear.....THE number is PLENTEOUS that will come before him claiming...
a. TO KNOW HIM
b. TO have DONE MANY wonderful works in his name <---religion without FAITH
Yet they will be cast as the workers of iniquity...WHY....BECAUSE he never KNEW THEM....this goes to the ROOT....they were NEVER born from above or the SPIRIT even though the had a CLAIM to FAME and WORKED their WHOLE life for JESUS.....
IT IS NOT THE WORKS...it was their ROOT OF GENUINE saving faith!
THEY went out from us because they NEVER WERE OF US!
This is a judgmental as it comes pal.....you have NO clue to what many of us have endured......In MY case the LOSS of two children to disease, MY first born handicapped, 12 surgeries and at least 2 years of his 21 in the hospital, 6 blood infections that almost killed him etc.....
You owe many in here an APOLOGY because this post of yours goes beyond biblical.........

i understand, they do not get it, most of what he said about us is not even true, it is not Gods faith that saved me, it was my own, God just did a lot of work to get me through trust in him,
like so so many others, they do not comprehend you can not try to understand where others come from if you do not know what they are saying.
