This is just a friendly poll to see how many of us actually pray what is commonly referred to as the Lord's prayer. Some call it the Disciple's prayer.

We don't need to go into all the "why's and why not's" in this thread. I am just curious as to what Christians from different church teachings do with this prayer. We all have different backgrounds and grew up or got saved in different types of churches that could have varied teachings on praying to our Father.

As I have said before - I use some elements of it in some form or other in probably most of my praying with my mind. I do not however repeat it or recite it word for word.

We are allowed to pray however our heart dictates to us when we speak to our Father and Lord so there is no "right or wrong answer".

This is NOT a public poll so your answer will be between you and your father.

This is the first time I have tried to create a poll so hopefully it will work.

The options are ( and you may come up with more of them too )

1) I always pray the prayer every day and I recite it word for word.

2) I use some elements of it in most of my praying in some form or other.

3) I never pray it word for word as it is written or have not for a long time.

It is really not your business calling people to answer this.

We all know Our Father in Heaven knows what we do without taking your private poll.

One thing that stood out for me when I posted this thread is - This prayer seems to be used when talking to the Father and not Jesus because Jesus said to pray to the Father when the disciples asked Him about praying.

Luke 11:1-2 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]
It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples."

[SUP]2 [/SUP] And He said to them, "When you pray, say:'Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.

Sometimes I have prayed it often and other times not as much. Typically if I pray it in a day, I only pray it once. I guess if I start singing it to a song I know then possibly more than once. Singing the prayer over and over again is not vain repetition if you are enjoying doing it. If you are doing it to get some special merit by God whether singing it or speaking it, that is vain repetition.

Matthew 6

5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Hi Cherie, thanks for your cheer,
The first time the Lord spoke to me, was in response to saying the name of Jesus repeatedly from eastern religion perspective as a mantra and having chosen Him as my spiritual master. I'm actually responding to your comment on vain repetition. I expected to receive something from Him, protection from evil spirits.

This is the account of how I met Jesus, actually just copied it from a post.

The Holy Spirit gives opportunities to Love as God Loves, if you Love the least esteemed this Way, Jesus the Lord of the Resurrection is revealed. Love does not insist on it's non way, if we don't learn of the Holy Spirit to Love, that's what can't be forgiven. When I was 22, I was saying the name of Jesus as a mantra, and chose Him as Spiritual master, from eastern religion perspective. The Lord answered me saying, "Behold if you call upon the name of the Lord He will come." I was sitting on the floor in a room at the time. His word pierced my heart like a sword, I fell unconscientious, thought I died but knew He did this and that I was in His care, felt good to be there, felt Loved and accepted and not worried that I was dead. This is the first time He spoke to me and the only time He spoke to me in a loud voice. It happened at 11 at night and woke up at 7 in the morning, thinking: what happened last night, I know something happened but what was it. "The natural man can not receive the things of the Spirit." Later understood this is referred as being slain in the Spirit. The second time He spoke was a few weeks later, He said, "Everywhere you look you'll see the cross." At the time understood I had to make my choice in life whether to live for myself or for him. Now understand its a daily choice and it's about Him living in us, as we are quite dead apart from Him. This account will be 40 years ago in 3 months. I had many experiences since and the more realise that without Love by the Spirit of God our faith does not work.

The Holy Spirit that Jesus left with us, to be with us for ever, makes it possible to have the relationship that Jesus has in constant fellowship with the Father: for us to actually be sons and daughters of God, though in the spirit there is no gender as on earth. Those who overcome the world become united to God as the Bride of Christ: to be eternally with Him in perfect Love that we already experience by his Spirit, but in this life it comes with suffering to grow up in Love. Many misunderstand this, we don't like suffering and in reality it's a light burden, to bear His light and not compromise with the darkness.
I pray the Lord's prayer every day, the most important part about turning our will to His will: relevant to daily pick up your cross and follow Me. "Give is this day our daily bread" about daily partaking of the Lords supper and forgive us as we forgive, "Cleansed by His blood" and reminding us to forgive to be forgiven otherwise rejecting His Spirit. "For if you forgive not, neither will your Father in heaven forgive you." "all manner of sin shall be forgiven but Rejecting the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven."
Your brother Ray

I was required to learn it, so of course I have said it many times. But, I cannot say I have ever actually "prayed" it.

It really is a prayer to Father :) Father forgives us etc.

In my opinion only I suspect........we are to pray TO God the Father, IN THE NAME OF Jesus Christ. At least that is how I read Scripture.

That's what I was taught too. Of course we talk to the Lord Jesus all the time. The Holy Spirit has been showing me the Father and the Lord. At first in my Christian life I had a hard time figuring the distinction out. But now I can spiritually distinguish between them. I have come to know the Father better for who He truly is. When I see Jesus - I see the Father.

I noticed that in Paul's prayers he always requests things from the Father. He also fellowships or interacts with the Lord Jesus too because he said that he asked the Lord for things to be done.

I believe we are all growing to know our Lord and Father for who they truly are and as we see them - the life of the Lord Jesus Christ is released in and through us to a hurt and dying world that needs to see the love and grace of our Father and Lord have for them.

On a side note:

It's looks to be about 50/50 so far for those that pray the prayer as it is written and others use elements of it.

As I have said many times.

Romans 14:22 (NASB)
[SUP]22 [/SUP] The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.

We have a living relationship with a loving Father and Lord - we don't have a relationship with a "book" or a doctrine. Knowing the difference between the 2 will stop a lot of religious bigotry from occurring in our midst.

Never allow anyone to "lord it over your faith".

Here is another great anointed song about Our Father! Watch this and see how your new creation of the heart in Christ within you will cry out to your Father.

Thank you Father that we are in You and You are in us through our Lord Jesus Christ!

I pray the Lord's Prayer pert near every night (every word), afores I goes "trying" to go to sleep, anyways! ;)
I see it as not merely doing it cuz Jesus said do it this way. I also see it as giving honor and homage to He, who breathed into my nostrils, the breath of life. and made me a "living soul".

The translators erred in the translating by putting this prayer as a bunch of requests. As requests it contradicts the Word. How so? Look here’s an example.
“Give us this day our daily bread” Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Then the next line “Oh please. Don’t lead us into temptation” James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

So Jesus prayed this as a series of statements of faith. Not requests.
Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven
You give us this day our daily bread.
And you forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors
You do not lead us into temptation but you deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the Glory
Forever

So far in the poll it looks like 65% do not pray this prayer every day word for word but do use some elements of it when talking to their Father.

As I have said many times - people are free in Christ to do as they want before their Father and obviously it seems people are doing that very thing.

We all have a personal walk with the Father and with our Lord too and sometimes the Holy Spirit is putting different emphasis on things for us specifically at different time periods in our life.

Since, as you just posted here, God does not lead us into temptation, that request (statement?) "not to be led into temptation" must mean something else.

Likewise, since the Bible says we, as Christians, are very definitely going to experience "evil" in our lives, I certainly hope no one is expecting God to never let evil knock us around some before "being delivered" from it.
