Hi Everyone!

Today I've been thinking about how I see myself versus how God sees me, and I noticed that I have quite a tendency towards the ''sinner'' side instead of the ''child of God'' side. It seems as if I feel more comfortable there because that's how I'm used to seeing myself. I remember that in the beginning of my walk, I had some days where I was afraid to rest in His love, because I thought I would end up taking Him for granted or disrespecting Him. I think this is a kind of behavior i learned from the way my parents treated me.

Now though, I know that when I step into my new identity in Christ, as a beloved child of God, I will be way better at serving Him and others, and I'll feel more peace and comfort instead of guilt and condemnation, which in me results in apathy. I feel like owning my identity in Christ will make me arrogant or puffed up, because I don't deserve it you know? Who am I to call myself a child of God right? (It's not me who does it, but God, and that's the thing.)

Especially in the light of us needing to be humble before Him, and not thinking highly of ourselves (at least not higher than we ought to think). In a way, owning what God says about us is a form of humility, but because it makes me feel positive things about myself, I am quick to back away from that out of fear of becoming ignorant. I think there can be a fine line sometimes between self-confidence and pride, but that's just me. My habit is to just stay in the ''dirty sinner'' corner, to avoid becoming too prideful.

Does anyone have some advice on how I can let go of this fear of actually feeling good about myself in the way that God sees me? I need to find a balance but I have no idea how to even tackle this issue.

Thank you so much :)

You are seeing the truth but not seeing all whole of the truth yet. You were a dirty sinner, but in Christ you have been made pure. So, first I must ask is there sin in your life now you must confess and turn from? If so do that now...But otherwise now, the question is can you handle that fact of purity? You we crucified with Christ and you no longer live, yet you do live, for Christ lives in you...then there are many verses that relates to your life. If you believe these facts you will not feel the need to crucify Christ twice.

Who is your life again? Christ Jesus! Who is Your way again? Christ Jesus! Who is your truth? Jesus Christ! So there is a totality, an absoluteness and complete transformation which takes place in yourself, are you ready to accept these facts of whom you belong to and to who you are, therefore, in Christ? If so read more of these Scriptures in faith and be lifted up:

2 Cor. 5:17
1 Peter 2:9
Ephesians 2:10
Romans 8:1
John 1:12
2 Corinthians 6:9
2 Timothy 1:7 ...and this is just a start..Can you share with me any more that describe who you are in Christ that are facts?

Our present enjoyment of God’s grace is apt to be checked by the memory of yesterday’s sins and blunders. But God is the God of our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them in order to turn the past into a ministry of spiritual culture for the future. God reminds us of the past lest we get into a shallow security in the present.

“For the Lord will go before you.” This is a gracious revelation, that God will garrison where we have failed to. He will watch so that things can't trip us up again into like failure, as they assuredly would do if He were not our protection. God’s hand reaches back to the past and makes a clearing-house for conscience.

“For ye shall not go out with haste.” As you go onward and upward with Christ, let it not be in the haste of impulsive, unremembering delight, nor with the flight of impulsive thoughtlessness, but with the patient power of knowing that God will go before you. Our yesterdays present irreparable things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ. If you have any anxiety or fear lay it at the foot of Jesus, and let go of it.

Leave the Irreparable Past in His hands, and step out into the Irresistible Future with Him. May God richly bless you.

I love this so much. I am in the same position as you. Sometimes I doubt my worth and I feel like I'm not good enough for God. I feel so ashamed...I want to love God faithfully and humbly. Thank you for posting such sincere words about your experience with Christ. If you don't mind, let's be buddies! :)

I think you hit the nail right on the head with that.

I do think I am able to handle the fact. I sometimes have moments where it just flows out of me naturally, and when i notice it does, i get scared and I try to ''grab'' and contain the feeling again. But when I really spend time thinking about it, the feeling overwhelms me which makes me want to run away from it..

Some other scriptures I found are these:
Matthew 7:24-27
Psalms 139:13-14
Luke 15:3-7
Ephesians 1

It surpasses my understanding that He can love me/us so much without us ever having done anything to earn it. I've never felt anything like it, this kind of love is verynew to me.

Thank you so much for your response, it is (one of, if not) the most loving and understanding message I've ever received.

...If so read more of these Scriptures in faith and be lifted up:

... read more of these Scriptures in faith and be lifted up:
I scrolled up and reread this and suddenly something clicked. So many times I read about how humans who humble themselves will be lifted up by God, but I always thought of this in a Judgement Day situation, when we get rewards, or when we get to reign with Christ. I had never ever thought of it in the sense of feeling good about yourself (which indeed is to be lifted up). And reading these verses in Scripture is literally God speaking and lifting us up instead of us lifting up ourselves.

So I thought any form of being lifted up was pride. It all makes sense now.

Thank you.

I'd love to be buddies! :)

I struggled with this a lot in the beginning of my walk.. I realized that God's standard is perfection, and also that He deserves a perfect human being to serve Him because of how good He is, and I had to come to terms with the fact that I was never going to be that perfect human. Jesus is that perfect human. And that He chose to take my punishment upon Himself so I could have a loving relationship with him, is beyond me. I cried many times over this.

I believe living with your sinful flesh on this side of heaven is a reminder of how bad you were (or your flesh), and at the same time a reminder of how good God is. How merciful, forgiving, loving and kind He is, how well He takes care of us and leads us on our path through life, just because that's His nature.

It's the most beautiful thing ever, and I think our puny and limited human minds can't even barely scratch the surface of it.

Remember to seek the person of Jesus Christ and never, simply, His blessings. Feelings God gives as He wills to give them, but they are a terrible watchtower and are fickle and misleading. Satan can also use feelings to dictate your psyche toward disobedience to God's will. They are immersed in the likes of "happiness" which changes by every wind of current circumstantially. Guard your heart against doses of good feelings, for Satan would love to dose you up to death with those, and by it, control your life for you under false pretenses.

The key to a Holy life is to live dead to the right to yourself; for you are already dead with Christ on the cross, (Gal. 2:20) and to be fully dependent in Christ and to place your mind in Christ and never be passive mindfully. This is where I discern Satan's attack is on you. He wants you to think, "Well, I am less aggressive towards God now and that's good, so too am I unworthy of Him, thus, I will let His Spirit run my life (and shunt my will in speaking less)." But to be sure God, as He does run your life, will only employ your will all the more in cooperation with Him in and thru you spirit, to your soul, and out thru your body in obedience to Him as He empowers you and lifts you up. His guidance is never belittling or condescending in nature.

So, guard against "passivity" of the mind in Christ. For, if the conditions of the mind are right, Satan can take ground there. We think Satan must ask us for permission to invade our minds because we know God has victory over Satan, and we know that God never employs our will without our permission; but this is not true. If the conditions are right in us being passive with what God has given us, Satan will battle for the mind and insert false doctrines; half-truth lies of hope as well, he wants you to stop thinking and do as he says; to be passive in Christ. Jesus wants us to start thinking thru the Spirits guise and be proactive in Christ in placing our minds in Him and acting upon them.

The way to understand who God (thru Jesus Christ) has made you to be is evident in a sound sober spiritual judgement thru a properly aligned relationship with God thru Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Thus, righteousness and faith are what, you as a Child of His, will be a bondservant to, not feelings.

In his letter to Ephesians Paul is found writing about “the spirit that is now at work in the sonsof disobedience” (v. 2:2). It is very important to know that the powers of darkness work not onlyoutside but inside the man as well. When men work they can at most do so with their words, gestures or bodily movements; the evil spirits, however, can work with all three but even more. They can act from the outside in the same way as man acts, but they can work additionally fromthe inside. This means that they can squeeze themselves into man’s thought life and worktherein. Man is not capable of doing this: he is unable to enter another man’s brain, subtlymaking many suggestions and confusing this matter of the source of the thoughts; but the evilspirits can. They possess an ability in communication which man does not have. They workinitially in man’s mind and then reach to his emotion, for mind and emotion are closely knit;they operate first in the mind and from there they arrive at man’s will, because mind and willare intimately joined too.

The Bible distinctly indicates that the powers of darkness are able both to impart ideas to manand to steal them from him. “The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot,Simon’s son, to betray Him” (John 13:2). This shows that Satan can put his thought into man’smind. “Then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts”(Luke 8:12). Thisattests that Satan removes whatever word man ought to remember and causes him to forgeteverything.

Why is the Christian’s mental life so beset by evil spirits? This can be answered in one sentence:believers afford (advance) the evil spirits (or the devil) the opportunity to attack. Leteveryone clearly understand that it is possible for one’s mind to be assaulted by the devil. Thisis confirmed by the experience of many saints.

Your study further in Scripture is admirable; here are some in view of this subject too:

2 Corinthians 11:3;
1 Timothy 4:1

Can you think of any other passages in the Bible which relates to the spiritual battle of the mind? Can you find any reassurances in Scripture that let you stand in His victory? After all, even though we must keep our minds from "passivity" in Christ, we are not out to earn victory, but rather stand in it.

Be encouraged brother and keep on seeking the face of God thru Jesus Christ. If you believe and receive you are the light of the world, so says God. I won't argue that point will you"!
:) Smile...

The bible says we are to boast in the Lord. So as long as you know the Lord is the one transforming you, I'd say you can safely boast about your "new being" :)

What you're saying is actually the exact reason why I couldn't stand in victory in Christ. I come from a background in the New Age movement, where you have to use the 'Law of Attraction' to speak your reality into existence and make good things happen in your life by chasing positive emotions. I used to do a lot of chanting and saying affirmations to make myself feel good to have good fortune, so I know exactly what you're describing there (it's a very dissatisfying practice, but since it was a form of witchcraft, it actually worked - which made me even more afraid to fall back into it).

It is because I was so afraid of falling back into that behavior, that I prohibited myself from feeling any positive feelings about my identity in Christ. I thought the joy of being a child of God was pride. Thinking about how God formed me in my mother's womb was pride. Feeling glad about having Jesus save me was pride. Being thankful that God loves me was pride. Believing I am the light of the world was pride. Believing and owning that I am saved and have eternal life was pride.

From my experience, Satan tends to get to me through guilt and doubt, since those are my weaknesses. For example, I used to be afraid that God was going to allow me to die before i found out what the true gospel was (crazy right?). I used to get into vicious cycles of feeling guilty and ashamed about my guilt and being displeasing to God because of that guilt about my guilt and shame, and so on. I was very obsessive about making sure I wasn't deceiving myself through feelings because salvation is such a serious issue. And I'm certain Satan used that to deceive me (partly) into Lordship Salvation. I could now, for example, start making myself feel guilty about not standing in victory in Christ.

I've also had a period where I sought His blessings instead of Him, and God defenitely chastised me out of that (...haha).

What I've realized by reading your messages and reading Scripture, is that there is a difference between chasing emotions and using God to fulfill the desires of your wicked heart (instead of serving Him), and resting in His finished work and experiencing joy and inner peace because of it. I initially thought these were the same thing, so I didn't allow myself to feel anything positive, in an attempt to avoid becoming prideful and blind. Basically, because I didn't want to be proud and deceived, I fell into a depressing and self-loathing false humility which is just as destructive.

I do feel a lot better though, I feel like I can serve God better when I accept the role He gave me. Only looking at my faults is also taking my eyes off of Christ and focusing on myself - which, actually is prideful. Wow.

Exactly,... If Satan can make you numb to Christ, he need not make you sin in other areas for you are missing the mark. If he can make you self-aware in God's blessings over His will, the same thing results relationally with God - A dampening film invades your relationship with your Father thru Christ, and hesitation and feelings become your life-style. You begin to need a fix. You become addicted to searching good feelings doctrinally. Jesus said, "He who hesitates is lost." Thus, remaining in Christ means we must guard our hearts and minds from passivity. We need to do what He makes clear for us to do thru Spiritual communications. Righteousness (or our properly aligned relationship with God) is key in continuing in our onward and upward walk with and in Christ.

You eloquently hit it on the head at the end there as well, and I find this in my life. There was a period in my life when I was intense in doing God's will and I became articulately pursuant, which is a fancy way of saying I became arrogantly prideful as an elitist for Him. But God crashed that party real quick... the more mature I got the simpler and more child-like I found myself.

It is simply resting and refreshing one another in things already accomplished in Christ, and letting go of our self-awareness completely, utterly, and absolutely and living in relationship to His love as His righteousness thru the Holy Spirit employs us to do what He makes clear for us to do as we continue in diligence to seek His face with all our strength, exercising our intuitive spirit and thinking in the heart and mind and letting God have us sacrificially to do what He wants as we command our bodies to obey..... The more we know Him personally, the more we want to obey and as we practice our new life in His power we become pleasing to His and His person. Who we used to be has no bearing now to where we are going and to whom we cleve to; namely Jesus Christ in His Kingdom. We are not of this world any longer....

Own your Christlikeness, and relate your prayers to your needs and others, and God's will, and don't forget to pray in the authority God gives you in Christ Jesus to respond to His enemy who is now our enemy... take control of your mind and be hateful of Satan. Command him to leave in the name of Jesus. Satan fears your allegiance to God's power for he has no choice but to flee when faced with it. Use His authority, for you are in Christ in your relationship to the enemy as well. Boldly and confidently act proactively, for Christ goes before you and has your aft as well. Seek not the questions but seek Christ Himself, for He is every answer to every questions you can ever have. Be proactive so your steadfastness and diligence can be wrought out in your Character of a Saint. God will mold your clay into a beautiful work of art as He finishes His workmanship of lifting you up in Him. Just yield. Lay down the fight. Lay down the mission, and let Him do as He pleases.

Another key is patience. We have to lose our own way of thinking and form Jesus Christ's way. "Aquire your soul with patience." As you know, it takes time and discipline, and as 2 Timothy 3:16 says, it takes training. When we are regenerated and have the life of the Son of God in us, God engineers our circumstances in order that we may form the mind of Christ.

This has been great fellowship. Thank you for the exchanging of encouragement. It is also cool how we wash each others feet from the film and dust we come in contact with in the world as well. Not sinfulness, just the film of the world in contact with it is all. Thank you for your honesty and input. I have enjoyed this.

But our New Being is still granted to us by the grace of God. Thus, if it is true that Jesus is our life, we can only boast in the Lord; never our New Being, for our New Being is the result of Christ Jesus being our life. "Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father...." (James 1:16-17). If we must boast, indeed, boast in the Lord, but never in self-awareness (of any kind). We are never to think more highly of ourselves than we ought.

Also, we must take to heart - (James 3:13-18).

Thank you so much! I enjoyed it too, it's always fun and interesting to hear about other's opinions and experiences, especially when they come from those who are solid on the Word. I defenitely feel less alone in this now, which I think is more important than getting an answer right away. That's why I believe Jesus died such a horrible death. He partook of our suffering so He knows what its like to feel pain, sorrow and loss like us. The fact that He put aside the glory He had in heaven to do this for us, to become vulnerable and weak like a baby, the Creator of the universe becoming part of His creation because he loves us so much, is the most amazing thing ever. I don't think we will ever be able to grasp the magnitude of His love for us.

Us having to become as children before God, is then also a way of following Jesus, since he literally became a child to serve God too! :D

What works for me is just to agree with what God says despite what my carnal mind thinks/tells me, i choose to identify with the mind of Christ in me, the one who agrees with God, and to let the old way of thinking die because that is not me anymore...Also what helps is to renew your mind that God says that you are righteous in Christ, no longer of a sin nature but washed clean. Renewing your mind to the truth God says about you in Christ is crucial because the world and even your own carnal mind will always try to convince you otherwise, and you have to stand firm on what He says in agreement... The more a person does this the more they grow into the identity... scripture says to be transformed by the renewing of your mind..
and i can say it really does happen. I hope this will be useful to you.

I have been struggling with the exact same problem during a dark and edgy first half of 2016, but then I kinda stopped worrying about it and I kinda just stuck to middle ground. I never allow myself to be too proud or arrogant, but I don't let myself go too far down, either. Works perfectly for me as of last June, and I think God would be thinking the exact same thing about me, too.

Of course we must decide our life as to whom we will serve, but I agree we must be steadfastness in the arena of feelings, for God owns even our psychological ends. WineRose, I have seen much investment from God in you, and your flowering personality is proof that God cannot be mocked, what a man sows he/she will reap. You are submitting to God over emotion, may God bless you as you continue in sacrificial living in His name!

It is easy to feel affection for another; what is harder is to translate this feeling into acts, daily acts, that demonstrate steadfastness of purpose in a domestic routine that may not be as dramatic as some heroic rescue, but that keeps the craft afloat no matter which way the wind happens to blow.

The deepest and most important virtues are often the dullest ones; they win no medals, and get no glory; but they are the glue that binds society together and makes it work, now and always.

*Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

* The goal of our instruction is the love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5).(also see: Psalm 51:10).

But, we must also guard our hearts to the thinking we are to stay neutral in our emotions in the spiritual battle realm for to do that would cause us harm: (see Revelations 3:16).

(Romans 12:9) says, "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
