This is a wonderful friendly thread

I live in florida, where the good ol boys meet the red necks

I'm not one of them but I'm tougher than all of them because I'm from the concrete jungle, the housing projects in Boston.

Now, as a born again Christian, I walk with Jesus and they are really afraid.

I currently reside on the outskirts of a city on the south coast of Australia.I am content here for now because the neighbourhood I live in is quiet and peaceful and people like to help each other along for the most part. But as is already mentioned, I do see myself as a sojourner and am no stranger to moving frequently and being "the new kid on the block."

In ideal circumstances I would love to live in Iceland because of it's pristine and otherworldly landscape and the fact that the cities there like Reykjavik and Akureyri are cultural hubs with a definite artistic edge over my humble little Oz.
That and the fact that the people are individualistic and quirky make it a very appealing option indeed. My ultimate dream is to study art in Reykjavik and spend time exploring the rolling hills, mountain scapes , glaciers and waterfalls of this wondrous country.

Check out this video to see why Iceland is so amaze balls!

Isn't Iceland, like on top of the North Pole, or something?

Go there before you move there. If you manage one weekend without getting a flu or a common cold, you might concider it. Things that look good om video do not tell you about the rain and cold wind. The best thing about Iceland is the wool. And even that itches more than average.

Don't they have an active volcano there, that makes the weather like Hawaii?

If that was the case.... Why do you think the Vikings continued West and ended up in America?

Yes, they settled in Minnesota I believe.
Oh.. nope. That was 800 years after the Vikings. There has been found evidence of Viking settlements on Newfoundland.

I've enjoyed this thread. It's given me opportunity to reflect on the places I have lived and where I might like to be in the future.

Wyoming is not under consideration. I grew up there, and I've seen all that state has to offer. I'm probably jaded, but mountains just don't trip my trigger. While I like that Wyoming is so sparsely populated and that works great for a pseudo-hermit like me, Wyoming is sparse mostly because most parts of it are rather inhospitable.

I liked Oklahoma when I lived there. Not sure if I could live there long term. I'd develop an accent eventually.

I really liked visiting Kentucky. I was in Murray, and the surrounding area was beautiful. The people were also very kind. Not overly polite and intrusive, but kind.

I couldn't be paid enough to live in California again. No freaking way.

I've been tossing around the idea of moving to South Dakota once my Dad passes away. I'll have my PhD by then, and there are quite a few jobs that could make use of my skills, and the state is really making it easy for people to move to SD and get set up. Tax breaks, moving assistance, immediate state residency, etc.

While I didn't live there, I spent many weekends in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and I liked both states for the most part. Either of them might not be bad if I didn't have to live in a city or even a large town.

Actually I have a whole list of reasons why southwest Tennessee is the best place in the world to live.

*rummages around... where did I put that piece of paper...AH!*

We're too far north to get Florida summers.
We're too far south to get Wisconsin winters.
We're too far inland to get hurricanes.
We're too far from the east and west coast to get their smog.
We have never seen drought, though we have heard about it from less fortunate friends in other states.
People are downright neighborly here, something we hear is rare in those states north of us.
Aaaaaaaaand... we still have broadband internet almost everywhere.

Life is good here. If it gets above 100 degrees F or below 0 degrees F it's an event worthy of an article in the newspaper.

...Oh, and if we want to make a call direct to God, it's only 50 cents. From here it's a local call. :D I hear some places, the long distance charge for such a call is more than a hundred bucks.
I like Tennessee. I rent cabins there quite often.

No, but I aspire to be an emperor.
I know a place called West Hog's Bend in the mountains of Tennessee, they'll take an Emporer.
And the pays good.

And you may find yourself
Living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself
In another part of the world
And you may find yourself
Behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house
With a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, well
How did I get here?
