If someone told you they wanted to die how would you help them?

Become their friend (or offer to just be there), and give them reasons to live. That's probably what they really want.... to know that they matter to someone.

I wouldn't help then to die, thereby becoming a murderer. If caught you could go to prison. For murder. Spiritually speaking you're guilty. Of murder.

I would refer them to a professional of some sort. WE are not authorized to help someone die. You can be jailed for that.

Ask what has stopped them from taking their life thus far. If they give an answer, listen for what they have valued or still value. Build on that.

What Willie said.....

By the way guys,
I don't think the OP is saying they want to help this person die, but I think they're asking how to help this person so they don't want to die any longer

That's a good answer.
There's something that has kept you here this far. There is always something.

What stops some people also, is knowing who would be hurt by their actions, more than what has kept them going, because the state of hurt and hopelessness that leads to such a dire desire comes from feeling such an irrevocable sense of loss of those ideals that added so much meaning and purpose to their lives; the fact of them being ripped away leaves a profound sense of loss, woundedness, emptiness, and deep despair. Maybe they have done something they feel they can never be forgiven for. More than anything they need someone who will listen to them, and who will give Godly counsel.

Unless they don't believe you....

Also.....
You can try everything in your power to keep them here but the reality is: sometimes it doesn't work. If by some awful circumstance this happens please please please know it's not your fault (God willing this will not happen)

Be a friend to them. I mean, a REAL friend. One who listens and doesn't do all the talking. One who cares and makes time for them. Also, see if you can get them to get professional help.
