Ask what has stopped them from taking their life thus far. If they give an answer, listen for what they have valued or still value. Build on that.
What stops some people also, is knowing who would be hurt by their actions, more than what has kept them going, because the state of hurt and hopelessness that leads to such a dire desire comes from feeling such an irrevocable sense of loss of those ideals that added so much meaning and purpose to their lives; the fact of them being ripped away leaves a profound sense of loss, woundedness, emptiness, and deep despair. Maybe they have done something they feel they can never be forgiven for. More than anything they need someone who will listen to them, and who will give Godly counsel.
They need someone to listen to them... a compassionate ear... do you agree?Unless they don't believe you....

If someone told you they wanted to die how would you help them?
That is part of the tragedyOf course I agree
Sometimes it's hard for people to believe anyone would be hurt by their actions
That is part of the tragedyOften the person they want most to care does not.
What Willie said.....
By the way guys,
I don't think the OP is saying they want to help this person die, but I think they're asking how to help this person so they don't want to die any longer
