How can someone "know" they are saved if the Bible clearly states that many will be shocked when Jesus proclaims to many, "Away, I never knew you".

How can totally different groups with opposing gospels all "know" they are saved and be correct? Clearly they all cannot be right. If many who sincerely believe they are saved be ultimately wrong, what is our defense for not being labeled among the mistaken?

Being saved and correctly interpreting the bible do not necessarily go hand in hand.

Well, I think The Bible, itself, pretty well contains enough admonishments and warnings that we are to only accept the "basic" teachings of one group of men... and that seems to be the Apostles that founded the church in ancient Eastern Asia.

We are told in that same book (the one they wrote) that it is a guaranteed fact that MANY other people will offer their version of the text they wrote, but that we are to stay with their words, only.

I think this would be a tough one. I would not even know there was such a term as, "saved", nor what it meant, if a Book did not exist that at least gave me a clue to somehow consider such a state or condition as "saved" or "unsaved."

I think we have to interpret at least SOME of it correctly.

I would say you know you are really saved when your faith can be seen also on your life.

Thats what Christ said - we must have deeds, we must be obedient to God.

You have to always and I mean ALWAYS stay on the straight and narrow. Easy, right?

if your faith is in Jesus Christ not your performance

and instead of wishing to feed your fleshly desires
you wish to be delivered from them

and you see the works of the Holy spirit ACTUALLY working in you

id say its time to start being thankful

and show your Father in heaven your appreciation for the gifts you recieved but didnt deserve

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

maybe we will always have room to grow

and learn things we got wrong the first or second time around

but i would say the truth of scripture as a whole is pretty easy to "get"

even if our less than perfect minds get some things incorrect

I would like to hear from someone who "knows" for sure that they are not part of the "Away from me I never knew you" group.

I realize this may sound like a strange request but we all cannot be saved since many of us are calling the others blind.

In other words, how can we know we are truly sheep and not confused goats?

Psalms 51:10 - Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Proverbs 3:5- Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding

1 Samuel 16:7 - But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

the "i never knew you group" speak of all the things they did in his name

its not about what we do

its about what He did for us (including making us new)

wouldnt you agree?

No one can "KNOW" that..... otherwise, those people would not have been surprised to hear such a statement.

But you CAN know if your heart is following the simple basics of loving others... even more than yourself.

In other words, if you had your Temple Tithe in your hand, and saw a vital and desperate need that your money could immediately fill........ but you chose to hold tight to the $, and continue on to the Temple, in order to maintain your righteous by giving to the Church................ would you be much different than the Church Officials who walked on by the injured man in the story of The Good Samaritan?

God, in His word, CONSTANTLY and CONSISTANTLY keeps on telling us to evaluate ourselves. That is not making sure we are checking off rules on a card. That is listening to our conscience.

Yes, one can be absolutely sure one is born again and has received the gift of eternal life.

The "thing" needs to be put in it's proper context.

Matt 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

People are so very quick to proclaim that they "know" without the shadow of a doubt that they are saved.

It seems like if they don't, it is a sign of disbelief.

The question was not if you can know but how can you know.

OK, let's start with some Basic Bible stuff that gets thrown around. What, EXACTLY, is this "heart" we hear so much about? (Or, the spirit that gets all this "testifying?"

Answers, Anyone?

But no one can test or even know his own heart, only God. (Jeremiah 17:9)
