I believe no church is complete without prophecy. Bible always talks about it. But I also know there are false prophets just as in any other groups. I have been a prey to many such false prophecy. How can church and it's people welcome Gods prophecy and reject false prophecy? Because prophets are generally visitors in church and not from the church.

Peter said we have a more sure word of prophecy......

So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dismal place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

The test was what exactly.......if it came true right? My view.....most are full of it.......NOTE and DISCLAIMER--->did not say ALL........

1 Cor 14 is our answer to this question....

14 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. [SUP]2 [/SUP]For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. [SUP]3 [/SUP]But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation. [SUP]4 [/SUP]One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church. [SUP]5 [/SUP]Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching? [SUP]7 [/SUP]Yet even lifeless things, either flute or harp, in producing a sound, if they do not produce a distinction in the tones, how will it be known what is played on the flute or on the harp? [SUP]8 [/SUP]For if the bugle produces an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle? [SUP]9 [/SUP]So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. [SUP]10 [/SUP]There are, perhaps, a great many kinds of languages in the world, and no kind is without meaning. [SUP]11 [/SUP]If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me. [SUP]12 [/SUP]So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. [SUP]14 [/SUP]For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. [SUP]15 [/SUP]What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying? [SUP]17 [/SUP]For you are giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not edified. [SUP]18 [/SUP]I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all; [SUP]19 [/SUP]however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.
[h=3]Instruction for the Church[/h][SUP]20 [/SUP]Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature. [SUP]21 [/SUP]In the Law it is written, “By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to Me,” says the Lord. [SUP]22 [/SUP]So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe. [SUP]23 [/SUP]Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad? [SUP]24 [/SUP]But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; [SUP]25 [/SUP]the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.
[SUP]26 [/SUP]What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. [SUP]27 [/SUP]If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; [SUP]28 [/SUP]but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. [SUP]30 [/SUP]But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. [SUP]31 [/SUP]For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; [SUP]32 [/SUP]and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; [SUP]33 [/SUP]for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
[SUP]34 [/SUP]The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. [SUP]35 [/SUP]If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church. [SUP]36 [/SUP]Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only?
[SUP]37 [/SUP]If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment. [SUP]38 [/SUP]But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.
[SUP]39 [/SUP]Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. [SUP]40 [/SUP]But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.

The scriptures should give witness to any Prophet today. In Revelation 14 the voice in heaven,as the voice of many waters is the Testimony of Jesus.
Revelation 19:10
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Jesus will open their minds to the scriptures so the 144,000 will have understanding the just like how he did to the 12 Apostles in Luke 24:45.
I'm pretty convinced that's what the new song is of the 144,000.

God always has a remnant. So there are probably Prophets today. And they should be backed up by scriptures. Two Witnesses (OT/NT).The Two Witnesses in the book of Revelation.

If and I say "IF" you truly believe in the WORD's of GOD (Holy Bible), then know that prophecy held within those pages are viewed as three different types.

1. The Gentiles mostly view the Prophecies as needing to be fulfilled. Predict/Fulfill

2. The Jewish Rabbis view the prophecies as repeating patterns. This is true and happens quite a lot in the Bible.

3 And third but the most important of all is; The prophecies within the Bible are to show God's Glory when they become fulfilled.

So to think like so many others that God would put forth some 1100 prophecies in Revelation only to have them symbolized into nothingness is bordering on dangerous territory of Blasphemy.

There is one other important part I should let you in on and that is the Interpretation. If you will read (your Hermeneutics ) the Bible from a Literal, Historical, Grammatical view (throughout the whole Bible, not just parts here and there), it will take you on a Beautiful epic novel from the "Beginning" to the future end without so much as a hiccup about His Love for a Nation and Mankind in general. No errors, everything is there just don't quit reading.

If you Believe that God breathed the very first breath into your mouth when you were first born, that he designed the very DNA within your body in order to make you that special person that each of us are and that He created everything you see, hear, taste and feel and smell, then ask yourself the next question as truthfully as you can

DO YOU BELIEVE that God's Words,(written by himself and inspired), have been protected over the centuries from Satan's directed attempts through Mankind to corrupt the His Words?

P.S. There are no false prophecies in the Bible.

Have a great day and good luck with your prophecy hunting.

Apparently not. It is written in Genesis that God spoke to Abimelech in a dream that Abraham was a prophet.

"Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake." Gen 20:1

Why would Abraham think that the fear of God was not in that place? Would Abraham and his wife be welcome in your house?

If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass..... Doesn't mean that they are God, much less to follow them.

The true meaning of prophesy is forthtelling NOT necessarily foretelling God's message to God's people.

Any time a pastor prayerfully seeks the Holy Spirit's guidance in preparing a sermon, the sermon is prophesy.

God may occasionally bring a word of prophesy from a member of a congregation; but that will be a rare event and will always ring true with the Holy Spirit within you.

Today people can only prophesy about what is already in the bible. Therefore, if it doesn't match the Bible, they are a false prophet.

***all prophesy must be judged by God's Word***seeking guidance from prophets can be dangerous***I personally seek God for His will and prophetic people will confirm what God is showing me***if a prophetic person tells me something "new" I take time to seek God and wait to see if it is a true Word and also to wait on God to see how He will fulfill it, rather than try to make it come to pass on my own***if you have already been led astray by false prophecy you need to take time alone with God to know what is true or you can mess up your life***if I do not know the quality of a prophetic person I usually will not be open to their messages***just as you should choose a good pastor and know he is a true man of God, so even more care should be taken in the prophetic***the prophetic people I listen to have a proven track record over the years with God and man---and even then I seek God for His guidance and do not let men lead me...

I find many confuse old and new testament prophets and in fact create an interchange between them

Paul says to pursue the gift of prophecy, but I think too many see this as some kind of OT authority which I don't think most have today although, as you say, there may be some...but I'm not sure on this

some also confuse a word of knowledge with prophecy

another extra-biblical practice is 'using' prophecy (not that you can but tell that to those who do it) like some kind of fortune telling apparition with people lining up to 'hear' from God...

oh really I could write a book about this, but we already have one and it needs to be studied :p

if this thread develops further, it might be worthwhile to contribute, but too many are stuck in what they think is prophecy

I call them Christian fortune tellers

the gifts are supposed to build up the body of Christ ... not put people on a pedestal with others thinking they have some kind of unattainable relationship with God. these people, IMO, have a relationship with a spirit that is NOT the Holy Spirit

and then we have these rather bizzare self anointed prophets who prophesy to ALL believers and offer renderings such as 'there is going to be the biggest move of God ever and everyone is going to be so full of the 'spirit' they will have dreams and visions and everyone will be healed and have lots of money'

or...'special doorways will be opened and you need to get to these places to have a biggest ever god smacking anointing'

not God and I would stand on that even if my life were threatened. yes I would.

Anyone who speaks to someone else a word of encouragement/exhortation, edification and comfort/consolation has by Bible definition in 1 Cor 14.3, prophesied to another. This is also the general prophecy grace gift found in Roman 12.6

1 Cor 14.3
[SUP]3 [/SUP]But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

Romans 12.6
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;

These gifts and giving these kinds of words do not make one a God & Holy Spirit called, sent, validated and approved NT Prophet.

A NT prophet will be used to forth-tell than foretell...most of "prophetic foretelling" today is spiritual witchcraft, but that is for another post..

A NT prophet will be a very spiritually mature individual that has visible and invisible battle scars....they will operate and manifest primarily in the 3 vocal & 3 revelation gifts of 1 Cor 12. Side note to the 9 gifts in 1 Cor 12....anyone can manifest in any gift that is needed at the time as the Holy Spirit wills it to happen...the best gift is the one that is needed when the Holy Spirit needs it]

True NT prophets are part of the 5 fold ministry gifts to the Body and for the maturing, equipping and completing of the Body, just as Ephesians 4 states.

True NT Prophets understand spiritual authority and easily come under spiritual authority of the local church, which means they answer to the Pastor of the church and Jesus, the head of the church...they work together with Pastors and not agaisnt them.

True NT Prophets primary purpose are to point people to God and teach people how to listen, hear, follow[be lead] and obey the voice of the Holy Spirit for themselves.

True NT Prophets secondary purpose are to encourage, edify and comfort the Body...If they are used to point out sin in someones life and call that person to repentance, they work with the Pastor to do this and do it privately and not in a corporate setting...unless the Holy Spirit wills it otherwise.

True NT prophets will test gifts that manifest in the church along with other ministry gifts or with the local Pastor and elders of the church.

Many think the spiritual gifts the NT Prophet operates in should judge his/her spiritual maturity...not so in the least bit....one should look at their life and their fruit and any disciples they have bore. A great test to determine a true NT Prophet besides confirmations of the words they give to people, is their love motive and love walk....

No True NT Prophet will become an island unto themselves...if someone claims to be a prophet they usually are not...a True NT Prophet will never have to validate themselves as such or use the title...This is true for any 5 fold ministry gift....these are not titles but gifts to men for the building up of the body of Christ...

No True NT Prophet will have a "specialty" anointing that nobody else has...like deliverance or spiritual warfare prophets...this is just false and demon influenced....

The best test of determining a true NT Prophet is simple, that many miss.....Doe she/she simply teach and preach the true & uncompromising word of God and can they do so with having to rely on the gifts manifesting to get through the meeting... for example...If True NT Prophets are called upon to teach or preach in a moments notice are instant in season and preach or teach under the anointing and not have to rely on notes, or other things....they know the word of God and the Holy Spirit brings things to their remembrance...

A true NT Prophet will never go past the mandate the Holy Spirit sets for them ministering to others....you can easily discern who is true and who is false by this test alone...

Well Pencil that depends on what one defines as prophecy, Prophecy is not simply a prophet speaking prophecy it is much more than that. For instance studying bible prophecy one might find that there is not a single way of God working prophecy through his church, often times prophecy is spoken through normal believers who aren't even prophets. Prophecy is not just prophetic dreams visions and prophetic words of thus saith the Lord, a lot of times prophecy is God speaking through us to give life to to others to give encouragement and to build and uphold others, in fact a lot of times people will simply speak what is on their hearts to show God's love and to help to mend the inner wounds and scars of others and not even be aware of being used in prophecy. Prophecy is for God to speak through his people to others yes? So doesn't it stand to reason that any time one shows the heart of God through their words that is prophecy?

One can have the gift of dreams and visions and can have the gift of prophecy but that doesn't mean they are a prophet

Even believer, some time make wrong exhortation, wrong Prove It not a prophecy.

yes paul talk about the charateristic of prophecy, but the other verse say If It wrong, that is not from the Lord, and not a prophecy.

I believe prophecy is some thing from the Lord. My friend fell slipped and cracket her bone, she Said It is because she disobeyed

God, God told her to clean her house but she did not.

I doubt this kind of prophecy. If God told her to do easy thing why not?

tough she is Christian, not all her exhortation is prophecy.

we agree in this matter...
