For quite a few people, somewhere around age 40 we start getting small tremors, usually in the hands. And usually it starts with one hand and progresses to the next. The medical community hasn't figured out the cause, and it's no serious problem for most people, so not worth pursuing treatments. Really not worth pursuing treatments since the treatments themselves cause more problems then the original problem.
I'm one of those people. Fortunately, it started in my right hand, and I'm left-handed, so yay! The worst problem I had was taking pictures with a camera. Lots of fuzzy pictures, until I learned to steady the camera and relax before taking the picture. (Excitement makes it worse and I'm usually excited about something if I'm taking a picture. lol)
Well 20 years later, and it's affecting my left hand now. Sometimes I have to chuckle on the effects. (Ever try to pluck hair with a shaky hand? How about shaving? Got to admit, it helps for brushing teeth though. lol)
I've learned a couple of work-arounds already, like I can't bring in two dinner plates at once, unless I want to feed the floor. No big problem there. And, if I get very jumpy, if I do relaxation exercises (breath slowly and mentally calm myself down), it usually works.
But I am hoping others have figured out other work-arounds.
If you have essential tremors, have you figured out how to pluck hair?
And, more important, how do you sign your name? The name signing really has become a problem because most the times I sign my name it's right after walking into the building, so I am a bit less than calm simply because I just walked to get there. (Imagine what happens if a cop pulls me over for a traffic violation, and wants me to sign the ticket. I can see me scribbling over the entire piece of paper just trying to sing it. lol)
Also, if you have them, and you'd like to know how others deal with some minor aspect, feel free to ask. I'm hoping we can help each other on the work-arounds. It happens to enough people that I suspect quite a few of us have this problem.
