Atonement is not a feast, neither is it a day of not eating.

Ten days from today is the "Day of Atonement." (Sept 30th) Let me know if this thread would be interesting or useful in your daily walk with Christ Jesus. There are some interesting facts that I have recently studied, but a conversation would also be edifying to me.
When the Lamb of God cried out from the Cross -- IT IS FINISHED -- that was the day when all the sacrifices of the Old Covenant ended, and the Day of Atonement also ended. Indeed the temple and the Levitical priesthood ended on that day in God's eyes, though men who did not acknowledge Christ continued on until AD 70. To continue to observe the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) is to continue to reject Christ and His finished work of redemption.

Read the entire thread, my friend. I clearly point to the spiritual relevance thereof. Paul even mentioned "Atonement" after the ascension of Christ Jesus into heaven. Then I will entertain your thoughts. This "Atonement" is all New Testament, and definitely not in relation to Judaism. It's all about following Christ Jesus. Are we not supposed to pick up our own cross and follow Him daily?

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (Luke 9:23 )

Absolutely. But that is not "atonement" but obedience. Only Christ can make atonement for sins. His disciples can only obey His commandments. The Day of Atonement is null and void. But daily obedience is not.

"And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement." (Romans 5:11 ) Is this past or present? If past, and all done with, the new covenant means nothing either.

"Atonement" means the restoration of the favour of God to sinners that repent and put their trust in the expiatory death of Christ.

καταλλαγή katallagḗ, kat-al-lag-ay'; exchange (figuratively, adjustment), i.e. restoration to (the divine) favour:—atonement, reconciliation(-ing).

Is this actually past, and done with, non-effectual? I think not. Do you understand that "Atonement" means to cover?

Romans 4:6-7
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

The foundational truth of Christianity is that Christ Jesus died on the cross for our sins. In this way he fulfilled the old covenant sacrificial system, reconciled us to God, and changed our lives forever. That is the doctrine of the Atonement. Its reality is not in dispute.

"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;" (1 Corinthians 15:3)

What scriptures is Paul referring to? The New Testament wasn't published in writing when Paul wrote this. Is it true that the Old Testament is now fulfilled in Christ Jesus, and no longer needs to be considered, particularly Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy?

John 5:46-47
[SUP]46 [/SUP]For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.
[SUP]47 [/SUP]But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
