its different with different sin....
but still the same (kinda)

if we make a choice to sin its because we continued in the initial sinful thought

lets say its lust

ok a girl in revealing clothing walks in front of you

and you get that first thought

in that moment

you need to pray (even if only in your head)
that God will deliver you from that temptation

before it leads to actually entertaining the thoughts (like fantasy)

which is lust in our heart and adultery

our flesh may still have these initial thoughts

its the choice of entertaining them (in thought or deed)
that is the sin

or if its fighting

lets say you are walking blameless

and someone does you wrong

and makes you angry

that first moment of anger
is because you saw injustice (towards you)
and want justice

not so bad

but being unforgiving
and taking vengence (in thought, word or deed)

is the sin

id again suggest to pray about it

the more your faith grows (through hearing Gods word)

the easier this battle between spirit and flesh becomes

or i should say the more gifts you recieve through the Holy spirit

the less you wish to fufill your fleshly desires

and the more you wish to obey Gods will

Hi Andy...Our mind is the battlefield, that`s why we need to re-new our minds every day:)...You are not on your own, I and many more have been in your shoes, but we must feed on the Word of God every day to keep us Spiritually fat and not skimp and become lean...Read Scripture to do with your sins, if you do not suffer with anger then it is no good reading about anger, the bible has ALL your answers, and God says in [h=1]Jeremiah 29:12-14New King James Version (NKJV)[/h]12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive...God will bring you to victory over your sinning, He has for me and billions of others, but you must draw near to Him :)...One step at a time Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord, with ALL your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him, and He WILL set your paths straight...xox...

What a wonderful age to be in the Lord:), you have the rest of your life to grow in Jesus, I think you are in a beautiful place...God says a lot about youth, but you must search for them Scriptures, God knows exactly where you are right now, my heart is rejoicing knowing you have the Lord in your life, keep on keeping on, study, read, and get a note book, a new pen, all brand new, and jot down the things you learn as you go, I hope to see more of you in here with questions and answers that God will reveal to you...Welcome :)...xox...

Hi Andy,

It blesses my heart to see youngsters come to faith.
Many many years ago I used to lead a youth group so it’s dear to my heart.

You have started a new journey.

Firstly I would say that I hope you know that you now have the Holy Spirit in you.

Jesus said that he must go back to heaven so that the helper must come and the helper is the Holy Spirit.
His purpose is to work in you to conform you to the image of Jesus and no fully that he loves doing it.

So it is he who will teach you the things of Jesus.

I think I would say regarding sinful thoughts and ignoring them, once it’s become sinful it cannot be ignored because now it’s sinful. When this is the case then it needs to be repented off.

What do I mean by repentance? Basically it means to think differently afterwards. And as a result it’s a view to change.

As my young friend NNM points out an initial thought is not sin. It’s what you do with that initial thought that can lead to sinful thoughts, even if you don’t carry them out, they are in your heart as such.

Jesus basically said if it’s in your heart basically you are as guilty has having actually committing it.

So in order to stop an initial thought to develop into a sinful thought it needs to be nipped in the bud.

And as Rosemary said that’s where the renewing of the mind comes in.

As a new believer your old self (that is the person who doesn’t give regard to God and doesn’t see the things NNM said as a problem) is in you and working in you.

As a believer you are now a new man in Jesus and the old and new man will come against each other.
So the Holy Spirit is in you to remind you that you have a new nature with is that of Christ.

So to nip it in the bud is to say “That is what I was, that thought would lead me to this but I am no longer that man”
At the point you don’t ignore it but you reject it.

We get to know the will of God for us and how loves us and wants to be with us and help us by reading the bible.
Do you have a bible?

Also fellow believers can help us and explain things we don’t understand.

I commend your heart and it delights me that you are seeking after God.
Our Father loves that, a person who seeks after his own heart. A heart after him he can work in and change.

Remember this.

This side of eternity you will not be perfect, you will get it wrong. God knows that.
That is why Jesus came. To give you a new heart that seeks after God, to forgive you of your sins.
They have been forgiven because of Jesus and you cannot earn that forgiveness.

As you seek after him Jesus will grow in you, as Jesus grows in you then the old you will start to decrease.
You will learn and grow to become more like him.

I hope I have made some sense and have not confused you.

If so please let me know if something I have said does that.

I am excited for you. A heart you have that seeks after God.
He will surely help you and use you.

Father I pray for Andy.
As he seeks after you that he will find you.
May he just trust in you to renew him and help him.

My young friend in Jesus.

What a joy to see you growing and maturing in Jesus.

Not sure if you remember but I did say when I first met you that I knew you would grow and that God would use you.
I said the same about my precious sister Rosemary as well.

I don’t wish to sound patronising but I am so proud of you both.

From your old friend in Jesus:cool:

When you repented, you spent some time grieving over your past sins, right? Even back when you did them, you had some idea it was wrong, but still couldn't not-sin anyway, right? What has changed since?

You've got the same lack-of-skills you had then, but God changed you, right? Well, then it's safe to assume the only thing that changed was God came into your life. (And not so much "only." That's huge!) You begged him to forgive you and to help you to be more like him.

That's the difference. Instead of counting on you changing, count on him changing you.

How? The same way Jesus taught us to -- press in and keep asking for help from him.

Look how he taught us how to approach him. It's all in the Lord's Prayer.

First we acknowledge who we're talking to, when we pray. Then we ask him to change our will to his will. Then we ask for what we need right now. Sure, it says "daily bread," but sometimes we need it more often than daily. (Truthfully, we always need more moment by moment.) Keep remember God is our source for what we need. And we really do need the ability to not-sin. And with all that God given power he gives, we're then able to forgive others, because he forgave us.

How important is it to ask? And keep asking? Jesus, who was 100% Man and is 100% God -- thought it was important enough to ask/pray constantly. He came here to die on that cross. He never once sinned, and yet the night before he was taken in to be killed, he still spent all that time in that garden praying to his Father. If he needed that much, we need him more.

So seek the Lord, and keep seeking. Glorify him and ask for what you need.

One other piece of advice -- we cannot stop thoughts from flying into our minds, but we most certainly can stop them from nesting. I can attest to most of my sin was thought out first. Had I given no time to thinking it out, it would have never happened. Something of how much I need to seek the Lord, instead of Dumb Lynn.

(BTW, heads up. I know this and yet a friend of mine had to remind me of this very thing today, because.... I forgot! Dumb Lynn really can be quite dumb, but at least you know it doesn't come naturally. lol)

And, if you haven't caught on yet, (because you haven't seen my name yet), I am Dumb Lynn.

Very good explaining going on there, but just wanted to give you a heads up too. Yes, it does get easier in that one sin area. The Lord is fixing something that makes a fixer-upper home look brand new though. He's fixing us. And, so, once it gets easier in one sin area, he highlights the next, and starts teaching us "trust me here too" for that one too.

Drug abuse is no longer a problem.
Gossip pops its head up and surprises me once in a while.
Temper? Hard to see much progress with that one at all.
And yet, now he's going with, "And talk to me more often."

And I'm going, "But we haven't finished with temper yet!"

And he's going, "No kidding, because you don't talk to me enough."

So, it just keeps going on and on.

Pssst, I think younger folks aren't picturing what you're picturing when you say "notebook," and might not really get the purpose of a pen anymore. I think they think IPads and phones are for jotting stuff down.

Not sure. I'm old. lol

I would like to contribute as well, but...

1. I would've just repeated what has already been said, and I'm sure you don't want to hear that.

2. I am not the best advice-giver in the world, so I'm not gonna risk coming up with something terrible. :p

Buuuut...I see that you're new, so...welcome to CC! :)

This is one of the reasons I long for heaven :). Because we have sinful bodies that live in a sinful world. In this earthly life, we'll never be totally free from sin. In Heaven, we will be perfect, body and soul, and live in a perfect world. There will be no more sin and no more sadness.

So, what to do with sin here? Pray without stopping! Prayer is huge. Because um...it is hard to entertain sinful thoughts when you are praying against them with all your might! In some cases with some sins it might be helpful to have a support group. In all cases it is helpful to read God's Word and hear what He has to say. And attend a church. Some Christians don't see this one as important, but I think the Bible teaches that it is.

Even our Lord Jesus was tempted to sin. Temptation is not sin. It's what we do with it! The Bible teaches that life is a battle between good and evil. If you stop to rest, evil creeps in. So watch and pray, and look forward to heaven!

God bless, brother.
