All this talk of cigarettes made me go out and get a pack.
Let the sinning begin.
I bet they say nothing about alcohol.
Lol they tax it to high heaven and forbid open containers in the public... but yeah... lots of underage drinking, public drunkenness and drunk driving.... drug abuse too... but pull out a cigarette? I don't know where you'd be allowed to smoke it. There are so many city ordinances about where you can and cannot smoke, they're trying to kick smokers out but good.
It's silly what people carry out their indignation about. I like your picture to the left.
Haha, thanks! I thought about using one where T-800 was "smiling" but I thought it'd be too scary for a Christian forum.![]()
Cow dung!that parenthesied question is simple enough to answer, though you probably already know the answer, you have to have "a desire and will to stop smoking otherwise you'll just seek it again, after all if you can't see it as "wrong" how do you expect to quit partaking of it?
If it's not of faith is the mark?there's a huge difference between condemning someone and stating an honest belief that the op asks us as a question....

i struggle with this addiction too lynn..
but we have a different view on the word sin
or what smoking really is....
its not of faith....
when we know to good and dont do it... what is that?
victory over sin?
or bondage to it?
Dont you mean that you agree not to agree with what you disagree with and therefore disagree with what you agreed with?
If it's not of faith is the mark?
By that logic, cleaning the house, writing a book, creating a garden, working at any job other than pastor or missionary, watch sports, watching TV, listening to any music that isn't faith-based, having a pet, planning for retirement, owning a boat, eating a Popsicle/ice cream cone/eating in general, taking a bath, brushing hair, teeth or hairy teethis all sin.
What's next? No pork? Worse yet, the one most people ignore -- no shellfish?
Actually, they tax alcohol reasonable. I do agree on "luxury" taxes. Tax that which isn't needed and leave that which is needed alone. Tax for alcohol is 5 cents to 21 cents a package. (The less alcohol in the package, the higher the tax rate. I'm going with politicians are more into hard liquor than beer or wine. lol)Lol they tax it to high heaven and forbid open containers in the public... but yeah... lots of underage drinking, public drunkenness and drunk driving.... drug abuse too... but pull out a cigarette? To understand something in context, one question has to be asked and answered. "What was the purpose of that?" This isn't just true for the Bible, it is true for anything every written.Romans 14King James Version (KJV)
14 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.
16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

we can agree to disagree on wether or not self abuse and addiction is a sin
not worth arguing over
its not like im any better
for me to condemn you specifically would make me a hypocrit
for me to state why i believe it is sinful
is honest and out of love
which seems to be very lacking in this thread alone

This is to be expected. The moment that you state your stance on any kind of topic that is against their sinful grain, that's the promised reaction sadly. However, you must be encouraged in your message which is actually very caring and keep advocating what is right according to God's word. If we all stopped just because it doesn't tickle some flesh, we would never have any progression or growth in our walk with Christ.

How can a cigarette and Jim Beam be a sin?
